Well what you call average may actually vary in size and breed. However, the prices shot up this year. I have priced some in Kano and Katsina and the "average" price of "Rago mai dan girma, kosasshe" is something between N15,000.00 to N20,000.00

Here in U.K, it cost like ?80 but its the same as jewel(abdul) said. u no go see kai and kafa (babu romon kai and kafa). so the price is around 20,000 naira.

Thanks for your responses. I think also that if you are willing to venture out to the countryside on the Sallah day, you may be able to come across a farm that will allow you to ?yanka? your ?Rago? and thereby come back home with ?Kai da Kafa da kayan ciki? for the ?Romo and ?Ragadada? maybe even ?fata? for ?Buzu??

About the get together on the Sallah day in Kano, I am not sure and how  you can even come to Kano for that when you are in CAIRO? Anyway, we usually have a little mini get together every Sallah Day ?Finafinan Hausa @ Yahoo Groups?. You are welcome to come to this coming Sallah?s get together which will take place InShaAllah at the Primary School Education Board along BUK Road in Kano in the evening?

Bakan~Gizo
Thanks for your response. Is the price lower in Katsina than Kano?

Dante
Thanks for your response. Also as I said to jewel(abdulgee22),  I think that if you are willing to venture out to the countryside of course might be very cold, on the Sallah day, you may be able to come across a farm that will allow you to ?yanka? your ?Rago? and thereby come back home with ?Kai da Kafa da kayan ciki? for the ?Romo and ?Ragadada?. I do not think though that the ?fata? for ?Buzu? is possible in your neck of the woods?

Hafsy_Lady
Here is my last year?s Rago Buying photo (it seems like the Ragunan want to buy us). Do you think that my hair and nails qualify me?

Here in Nairobi, the prices are as follows:
1. Goat 2,500 Ksh
2. Cow 12,000 Ksh
3. Camel 18,000 Ksh
Although they look cheaper than at home I presume, but we certainly miss the celebrations back home with things like visiting relatives and watching the durbar. Here we do celebrate indoors with few friends around.
Note: 1 Ksh is equivalent to 1.67 Nigerian Naira.
Wishing all a happy Sallah in advance.

Yes Oga, especially the prices of the taure (goat), the
one with gemu is becoming more expensive each passing
day because of the christmas.

Sorry forgot to tell the prices of Horse and Donkey:
an average Horse goes for N25 - N55,000.00
while Donkey goes between 15 - 25,000.00

Ikon Allah har shekara ta zagayo.
well, this season, there is likelihood that ram in
Maiduguri will be cheaper because of the influx
of fulani rearers from cameroon, tchad and niger,
especially tchad were civil unrest is at stake, so
most of the herdmen are trooping into nigeria
to find safe haven.

I somehow dis-agree with dan-barno. You know something funny about AREWA's is that a time like this or Ramadaan where someone is expected to be more helpful to others in terms of feeding, clothing... but unfortunately its the time when money is made. Many ppl buy rams in advanced these days because its much cheaper than when the time is near.

Just yesterday, i took a pair of cloth for sewing and my long-lost tailor trippled the normal amount i paid a month ago saying that its just a week to sallah and everywhere i go its the same price.. it was rediculous to see that everywhere in fagge is trippling the price talkless of ragon sallah, am sure it will be more expensive compared to a month ago.

Thanks to all members for your responses.

I got mine today in Kano (small market on the Hadejia Road bypass) for about a range of 16,000 to 24,000 Naira...

Get ready and set your budget,
do not bother going out to villages,
wait till a day before Sallah to shop,
do not go in a relatively good looking vehicle,
dress not to look like you have a lot of money,
if you are female, have male shop for you,
if you are middle aged, have somebody younger shop for you.

In Nigeria, prices of goods and services like these are usually subjects to how rich or not you are perceived to be.

Good luck and Eid mubarak...
