Title: Shin Haka ne? Malam Shekarau should read this!
Post by: Jibo on August 13, 2008, 10:55:35 AM
I found this joke on page 17  of Aminiya, a Hausa version of Daily Trust Newspaper of 1st to 7th August 2008:

Wani Bakano ne dai bai taba zuwa garin Kaduna ba, rannan sai ya shiga mota domin zuwa can. An iso garin Kaduna kuma an kawo daidai gadar Kawo, sai ya zuro hannu ta tagar mota(sic, motar)yana adabo ga jama'a. Bayan motarsu ta sauko daga gada, kowa ya sauko shi bai sauko ba. Da aka ce shi ma ya sauko, sai ya ce: "Ni ba zan sauko ba, domin ba Abuja za ni ba, Kaduna za ni". Jin haka sai wani Bazazzagi ya ce masa,"Bakauye ya shigo birni! Sai ka sauko domin nan ne Kaduna, karya ta kare, ka hau abin da babu a duk garin Kano. To, ina kirarin da kuke yi na cewa, 'Ko da me ka zo an fi ka? Sai Bakano ya sadda kai, saboda kunya.

Hello! Hussna? You missed the information, you missed the request and you missed the pointer! Think of the following places in Kano: 'Yan Kura up to Bata round about; Kofar Nasarawa up to Audu Bako Secrtariat; Kofar Mata to Kantin Kwari, etc. Is there no need for something not to be done about traffic jam and congestions? Kano is much less in population than Kaduna! There is no need of... ;D

Well I dont know how you managed to garner that much implied information from the joke. There certainly are no indicators or pointers as far as I can read but I might be a bit dense kwanannan  its been known to happen ;D ;D ;D.
I still  cant get the joke and I cant see how it relates to Bata, kantin kwari and kofar nasarawa. On the other hand you are right. We need to do something about the congestion. I have heard that Kaseppa has had a change of name. However not a change of attitude towards doing whats supposed to be done I suppose (going by the congestions).

Husnaa is right. The joke (if that's what it was meant to be) was pretty lame. The issue of traffic congestion is legendary in Kano, everyone agrees something should be done about it. Nothing new there. Incidentaly I just read on Daily Trust that the contract for the conversion of  Kabuga-KofarMata-Abdullahi Wase roads to triple lane was awarded to Borini Prono const. company. THe company promised to complete the project by 2010. Let's just hope it doesn't suffer from Mallam's administration's malady of slow motion and procrastination.

BKGZ the 'triplization' project is for EL-duniya to Kofar kabuga and then state road to gidan murtala roundabout-ibrahim taiwo road to waje mosque, awarded to Dantata and Sawoe with a completion time of 18 months. That of Borini Prono will be due in 20 months.
The Gov said it will have standard drainanges, bus stops and street lights.
Allah ya kai mu rai da lafiya.

LOL,
You have been out of the country for quite a long time.
Ok,the Federal Govt has constructed a single lane overhead bridge ('flyover') in kawo, kaduna state.
So a Kano man, wanda bai taba ganin or hawa bridge ba(because there is none in kano) was busy waving his hand because of excitement. When they finally descended from the bridge to Kawo motor park sai aka ce ya sauko and he started arguing that kaduna zai je ba abuja ba. Thinking that only Abuja had bridges.
Kin ga ai dan Kano ya zama dan kauye.
LOL,
Hannu daya fa gareta bridge din.More like a round about  :P :P

Hello, Husnaa,

Now I see you did not apply a critical mind on the... 'joke'? I understand that Kaduna, or Kawo, is not as populous as the places I mentioned in Kano. At least the latest head count tells us that Kano is the most populated city in the north. What brought the construction of the overhead bridge at Kawo, Kaduna, is congestion and so the overhead bridge was constructed to solve the problem. I see that the joke is not only to 'yab' 'the Bakano' but also an indirect pointer to a solution: the congestions - not the triplication of the roads can do but an overhead will be better. We know quite how commercial drivers always park any how on the road. This added to the congestion, the more space you give, the more they park. But overhead will provide faster way of easing traffic. Think of the two over head bridges: one around 'rimi market' and one attached to sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna. The two were built to easy pedestrian traffic but they are never used. But for cars - it is the solution! Well, Gogannaka has saved the situation by explaining the joke to you, while I give you the deeper understanding or meaning between the lines.

Gaskiyar ka Jibo.
The government of Kano can even make a realisable income from traffic offenses.
If only the 'wrong parkers',overloaders,'off the roaders',traffic violators(mara sa tsayawa a danja) would be fined like 2000 to 10000 naira per offence, honestly we would start thinking of forfeiting the oil allocation.

I learnt that in lagos if your vehicle is impounded you have to pay N500 daily for gadi, then it would be taken to a place very far from where you live and before you collect t back you would have to go for psychiatric test in the govt aprroved clinic which is in another part of the state.

Na so dem suppose do here.Impound your achaba or car at VIO yard in zaria road, pay the dues at dawanau branch of first bank then take a psychiatric test at dakata psychatric home, the fees for the test will be paid at singer branch of first bank.
Do this for two weeks and you will see sanity on our roads.

Thanks for the clarification. I still don't see anything funny or sharp about the 'bakano overhead bridge joke'. Bland, really.
