epidural is an injection given in the epidural space (which is inside the spinal canal). it is used for different reasons but the common one which I know is during childbirth - some women opt for an epidural as a pain reliever - u loose sensation from waist down and don't feel any pain.

ok...back to the topic

In the UAE, such practice is common. The government organizes and pays for the wedding (everything inclusive...dowry and all). so it wudn't be a bad idea...but first we need to tackle more serious issues (i guess)

gnaka, absolutely true. we r the only ones I believe that can have that kind of patience.  and for that we should always appreciate our mothers, cherish them and love them like they did when were kids and still do, now that we've we should return that love.  And a person wud never fully understand this until he/she gets a child (especially the woman since she's the one that carried the child and gave birth to it) :)

gaskiya kam IBB...tunda idan babu land din ay the other guy cannot build a room on air. dan haka sai ya tashi ya bashi plot din shi (idan ma rushe dakin zai yi sai yayi) amma dai wuri na mai plot ne.

I think it is good to have both male and female contraceptives.  Sometimes it is the man that doesn't want anymore children but becoz of selfishness (or something else) it is the woman that ends up having her tubes tied of using some kind of contraceptive. Now tell me this, what wud happen if they got divorced or the husband dies and she got married again?...the new husband wants to have kids with her but unfortunately she can't have any bcoz her tubes have been removed or her womb is damaged due to the contraceptives she has been taking.  So what i always say is if the husband doesn't want to have anymore kids HE should get a vasectomy!!! and as it so happens, it is reversable (though not effective in all cases).  And if it is on a mutual consent, both spouses should use some kind of contraceptive and not just one spouse.  That's IMHO

Dan Borno...I'm not a doctor...but I believe male contraceptives come in different forms (as do the female ones).  This injection basically is a reversible nonhormonal injection that provides contraception of upto 10 years (as they claimed).

oh yeah, there's also a pill  ::)

It so hurt me to hear of such stories!!! before IT, I was interested in becoming a doctor...then a midwife...but then things changed.  Everyday u hear of heart retching stories like this!!! Again, awareness is an important factor here!!! The husbands as well the wives need to be made aware of the importance of antenatal and postnatal care!!! This is also an interest of mine: I want to have a mother and baby centre where such things will be discussed.  I wud like to encourage both parents to come to the centre (if not on the same day, on different days - we'll have mother's day and father's day).  I mean this is an issue that really need to be tackled!!! The husband at the end of the day wud not care a dime!!! it is the wife that wud end up having VVF of worse dead!!! and at the end of it all he'll abandon her at her parents and get himself a new wife!!!  and the parents (being what they are- at times) wud take her back before she's fully recovered and before u know it, another baby is on the way!!!
So insha Allah, this is also on my agenda...Allah dai Ya taimake mu baki daya.

Science and Technology / Re: KAFA KUNGIYAR ICT
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:01:25 PM »
Assalaam Alaykum,
This is really a good idea. I studied IT for my degree and IT management for my masters. For my final project I did it on ICT in Tertiary education in West Africa.  I hope to open some kind of ICT centre insha Allah.  But I'm still a baby in the field as I did not really have concentration but touched on all aspects (from programming to management). It wud be great to see more ICT organization in Nigeria (even though the section is growing, we r still lacking behind).  What I wud really like to see happen is for schools to get connected (the education sector in general). Awareness is an important thing in the successfull implementation of ICT in the education sector (and all other sectors).  Therefore, the decision makers need to be aware of the importance of ICT in the education sector and for the development of the country. Hopefully we'll get there some day :)

Assalaam Alaykum,
It has been a long time since I've been here. Hope kowa lafiya lau.

Well I just stop by to tell you all about the fund raising event organized by the World Food Programme and TNT that will be held around the world on the 12th of June. It is a fund raiser event and awareness at the same time. This even is to help feed people in a less fortunate country.

If you want to participate please click on the link below and find an event in your area. I saw there will be one in Lagos. Nevertheless, even if there is no event in your area, you can coordinate one.

Help others, and insha Allah, Allah will help you.

Thank you.
