hmn..i'm neva good @ writing poems..do y'all accept it even wen its kinda funky n witty?..still i try...
NAIJA 4 LIFE

Nigerian style, iz how I?m representing,
Staying true to myself and never ever pretending,
My emotions run wild, with passion and pain,
So much feeling, when hear my country?s name,
My pride echoes for miles, with supersonic roars,
I have louder screams than when the Super Eagles score,
Putting roots and heritage within my pride,
4ever repppin? Naija with soul and mind,

If my pride were the people, we?d the greatest tribe,
If my pride were my culture, it would never ever die,
Giant of Africa, the heart of the motherland,
The cradle of life, birthplace of the first man,

When it?s time for celebrating, I make a rush,
Ain?t no other people who can rock a party like us,

The food, the drink, the clothes and ice,
The meat, the fish and the plate of jellof rice,
I can feel it now; my stomach begins to grumble,
When Nigerians are around the jungle will rock and rumble,
4ever green white green, 4ever remaining blessed,
Repppin 150 percent, of the African, West

Forgetting all tales of Nigeria?s strife,
I?ll just remain true and stay NAIJA 4 LIFE

Islam / RAMADHAN KAREEM
« on: October 12, 2004, 07:00:03 PM »
All praise is due to Allah, Subhanahu wa ta`ala, the Sustainer of the worlds. I pray that His peace and blessings descend upon the Most Noble of all the Messengers of Allah, Muhammad Bin Abdullah, sallallahu 'Alaihi wa salam, his family and companions.
WHAT IS RAMADAN?
Ramadan is derived from the Arabic root word ramida or ar-ramad denoting intense scorching heat and dryness, especially the ground. From the same root there is ramdaa, sunbaked sand, and the famous proverb: "Kal Mustajeer minar Ramadaa binnar" - to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. And in a hadith the Messenger of Allah (saas) said: "The prayer of repenters is due when the young camel can feel the sun's heat early in the morning." (Muslim)

Thus, the word Ramadan is so called to indicate the heating sensation in the stomach as a result of thirst). Others said it is so called because Ramadan scorches out the sins with good deeds, as the sun burns the ground. Some said it is so called because the hearts and souls are more readily receptive to the admonition and remembrance of Allah during Ramadan, as the sand and stones are receptive to the sun's heat. The framers of this beautiful language may have been inspired by Allah (SWT) in naming this month Ramadan. Otherwise, the relation between the heat and its properties is miraculously similar to that of Ramadan. While the heat represents the matter that helps shape, form, and mold virtually every matter - from metal and plastics, to plants and living cells - Ramadan undoubtedly helps a serious believer remold, reshape, reform, and renew his physical and spiritual disposition and behavior

Whenever the orbit turns and another month of Ramadan approaches, happiness and joy return to the Ummah, for with it come two of the greatest gifts of Allah, namely the fasting month of Ramadan and the celebration of the revelation of Al Qur'an

Fasting is an eloquent expression of Allah, leading this Ummah to the gates of His mercy, a key to unlocking the mysteries of His nearness. While humanity is divided on the basic elements of the notion of the Creator, a Muslim is far ahead of the rest of the world in this field and travelling at the speed of light to the neighborhood of the Throne of the Creator. Where else would you find a discipline that provides direct communication between the servant the Served? Where else would you have an act of 'Ebadah that enriches self-worth, self-strength, self-rebuilding, self discipline and control? Where else would one find a discipline that moves the believer from unauthentic to authentic as the institution of fasting? Where else would you find a discipline that enriches the vital needs of human being, both physical and spiritual? Praise be to Allah!

The institution of Fasting is a unique form of worship prescribed as part of an overall system of Islam. Its uniqueness mirrors the uniqueness of the human being, a creature of physical and spiritual parts whose excellence depends on the right proportion of these two parts. Too much of the physical material will ruin man, and too much of the spiritual will, too. Fasting orients the observer to the art of balancing the spiritual essentials with physical needs, a vivid proof that there is in all of us the will power, a pivotal element that controls our actions. This will be needed to help us curb the animalistic tendencies originating from the stomach, in full. It makes us forget about our beginning, it awakens the mind and kindles clear thinking and consciousness of Allah. Fasting is the sobering of a mind and reconstruction of our spiritual faculties.

Fasting has instilled in food and beverages a religious legitimacy, as its amount and the hour taken are expressed in terms of deen, and chewing and sipping at proper intervals equals praise and glorification of Allah. It makes the individual ready and primed to meet the Creator. You see, it has never been easy trying to gain access to the nearness of Allah, SWT, due to several considerable obstacles obstructing our view, mainly ignorance, multiple images or double vision, passive will power, time, place, culture, upbringing and prejudice. Fortunately, the gates that lead to the nearness of Allah swing both ways with the help of fasting.

Fasting cures the double vision that many people suffer in the realm of spirituality. The inauguration of Fasting eliminates the middleman, a spiritual broker, an insidious opinion held by some that a believer can only gain access to nearness to Allah through another, who is endowed with superpowers to reach Allah more easily. No, indeed, Allah is ineffable yet approachable. It is the sum and scope of Allah's 'Ebadah that clarifies all the acts of 'Ebadah including Salat. Fasting renders this magnificent and beautiful idea of Tawhid of Allah, there being no deity but Allah, and Muhammad being His Messenger, into an effective power charge, a potent and effective concept for focusing and organizing one's world view and epitomizing the religious and psychological orientation of the believer.

On the other hand, Ramadan was the host month for the inauguration of the final revelation, Al-Qur`an Al-`Azeem. Allah (SWT) bestowed this book upon humanity through His Messenger Muhammad bin `Abdullah. The reading of Al-Qur`an has been mandated by its Author, Allah himself, for the believers all the time, more so in the month of Ramadan, as this is reported from the Messenger. Muslims past and present have always mixed fasting with reading of Al-Qur`an. Perhaps the reason for this is that one of the objectives of Ibis (shaytan) is to hinder the believer from reading Al-Qur`an. But during Ramadan Shaytan himself is hindered from tempting the believer- for Al-Qur`an avails the reader a cherished privilege of directly conversing with the Creator of the Universe.

Islam / inspiring piece
« on: October 05, 2004, 12:20:09 PM »
this is a very inspiring and religiously provoking poetry-like article a very gud buddy of mine 4warded 2 me n i rekon y'all myte like n need it.read on

La ilaha illal lahu

Muhammadur rasulul lah

Hell Is Real

I went into my classroom,

Ready for another year at school,

I didn't want the work,

Just wanted to hang and be cool.

I had on new clothes,

New sneaks on my feet,

I was there for class on time,

Went to the back and took my seat.

Yeah, I'm moving up,

I'm already grown,

Soon I'll be graduating,

And out on my own.

I talked to some of my friends,

We were all having fun,

Said some things I shouldn't have said,

Did stuff I shouldn't have done.

I knew I was different,

I felt God touch my heart,

I knew I should set a standard,

But then I'd be set apart.

Walking to the bus,

I was not looking for strength,

I heard the car tires screeching,

But now it's too late.

I'm standing in this room,

And I can see the heavenly gate,

Oh no! I never prayed,

I thought I had time to get it straight.

An angel walked to me,

He had a book in his hand,

I knew it was the Book of Life,

When would this dream end?

I told him my name,

And he began to look,

then he looked at me sadly and said,

Your name is not in this book.

Angel, this is a dream,

No, I can't be dead!

He closed the book and turned away,

He whispered-You cannot proceed ahead.

No...no this can't be real,

Angel, you can't turn me away,

Let me talk to God,

Maybe he'll let me stay.

He led me to the gate,

Allah came to me,

He did not let me in but said,

Beloved what is your need?

Allah, I cried, please,

Don't cast me away from you,

Tears ran down my face as he said,

You knew what you needed to do.

Lord, please I'm young,

I never thought I would die,

I thought I'd have plenty of time,

Death caught me by surprise.

Lord, I went to mosque,

Please Allah, I believe,

He said you would not accept me,

My love you would not receive.

Lord, there were too many hypocrites,

they weren't being true,

He took a step back and asked,

What does that have to do with you?

Lord, my family claimed to be saved,

They weren't real, you know

I fell to my knees crying to him,

Lord, I planned to be real tomorrow,

I couldn't make Him understand,

I had never--felt such sorrow.

Then it hit me hard, I said,

Lord, where will I go?

He looked into my eyes and said,

My child you already know.

Please Allah, I begged,

The place is so hot,

He whispered, DEPART FROM ME, I KNOW YOU NOT.

Lord, you're supposed to  love,

How can you send me to damnation?

He replied, with your mouth you said you loved me,

But each day you rejected my salvation.

With that in an instant,

Day turned into night,

I never knew such torture could be,

Now too late, I know the Quran is right.

If I can tell you anything,

Hell has no age,

It is a place of torture,

Separated from God and full of rage.

You know, I thought it was funny--a joke,

But this one thing is true,

If you never accept Allah

HELL IS WAITING FOR YOU!

So please, ask Him into your heart

Please show this to everyone you care about(which should be everybody)

IF SOMEONE HAD A GUN HELD IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE,

AND ASKED YOU IF U BELIEVED IN GOD WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

SAY NO AND FEEL ASHAMED THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?

OR SAY YES, I DO, AND DIE STANDING UP FOR GOD?

IF YOU'D SAY NO, THEN DELETE THIS E-MAIL.

IF YOU WOULD STAND UP FOR ALLAH

THEN SEND THIS TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND THE

PERSON WHO

SENT IT TO YOU.

WHETHER THEY ARE

SAVED...UNSAVED...BELIEVING...OR UNBELIEVING

chit-chat / 15 things U probably neva knew or thot about.
« on: October 03, 2004, 07:25:15 PM »
hey'll ,jus came accross this piece n thot y'll might hav a field day wif it(sa-salati i strongly suggest u stay outta dis coz i know empty vessels makes d loudest noise..lol(juss kidding)
15 Things You Probably
 Never Knew or Thought About

1. At least 5 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. If not for you, someone may not be living.

8. You are special and unique.

9. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it.

13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know.

15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

A Minute

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them

Take the time... to live and love.
If you do so, You will certainly brighten someone's day and might change their perspective on life, for the better.

MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER!

ENJOY!!!

General Board / GOV. ACCUSES ZAMFARA STATE OF TREASON.
« on: September 23, 2004, 07:42:51 PM »
ANY state in the federation which resorts to discriminatory policies against other Nigerians may be on collision course with the Federal Government.

From the reaction of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Charles Akinlolu Olujimi, the stage appears set for a test of will between the Federal and Zamfara State Governments over the latter's recent ban on non-indigenes in its schools.

In an interview yesterday, Olujimi told The Guardian that the government was studying the situation to establish the veracity of the report.

Olujimi said it was treasonable for any of the 36 federating states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to take such an unconstitutional decision.

Zamfara State Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed said recently the state government had set up a committee to screen out non-indigenes from candidates short-listed for admission into post-primary institutions in the state. The objective of the policy, according to him, was to meet the educational needs of the indigenes of the state.

But Olujimi said "if it is true that Zamfara State has rolled out the policy of stopping non-indigenes from attending public schools, then it is a total negation of relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution and amounted to a threat to the unity and cohesion of the corporate entity called Nigeria."

He declared that the segregation policy was a clear violation of sections 18(41) and 42 of the 1999 Constitution.

Section 18 of the constitution provides that government is to ensure equal and adequate educational opportunities for all Nigerians, while section 41 provides that every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout the country and to reside in any part thereof. Section 42 states that all Nigerians are guaranteed right to freedom from discrimination.

The nation's chief law officer said the government would certainly do something to stop "this threat to national unity."

He said: "That (discriminatory policy) is very wrong and is a threat to the unity of Nigeria. Nigeria is a federation and under the constitution it is unconstitutional to bar citizens from attending public schools because of their place of origin."

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka had on Thursday at a public lecture titled "Myth and history in the quest for identity" in honour of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion stated that "although the agitation by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) had become a nightmare to the entire country," the real signal of secession is the decision and actions of Zamfara State Government."

Soyinka said at the event in Benin, the Edo State: "Are you not aware that Zamfara State has seceded from the nation? Or, let me tell Mr President that Zamfara State has opted out of the federating unit."
peace y'all.

chit-chat / nigerian police'guns for hire'
« on: September 18, 2004, 10:59:52 PM »
President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria has accused the country's police force of renting firearms to criminals.
"What do we do with law enforcement agents where a policeman will hire out his gun to armed robbers?" he said.

The president also berated the country's custom officials at a security summit on Tuesday.

Police Affairs Minister Broderick Bazimo said that while the odd policeman might supply guns, this was not true of the whole force.

"You invariably have the odd bad egg, and one bad apple has this tendency of polluting the whole basket of apples," he told the BBC's Focus on Africa in defence of the police.

At the security meeting, President Obasanjo also expressed concern about the high number of guns in circulation - citing the recent capture of 142 AK rifles in the southern state of Rivers.

"That will more than equip a military company. That is enough to wage war on a big city, not just armed robbery," he said.

The BBC's Mannir Dan Ali in Abuja says public perception of the police seems to concur with that of the president's outburst.

Many people see the police as corrupt and colluding with criminals, our correspondent says.

chit-chat / FOR $200 A NIGERIAN WAZ KILLED IN U.S
« on: September 18, 2004, 10:53:40 PM »
hmnnn mah fellow naijans! wondas they say shall neva end abi???....jus strolling thru cyberspace n ran into dis piece ....and ermm....figured y'all might hav a filed day wid it.holla!

Michael Chukwuemeka Erokwu was a student at Midwestern State University, United States of America and would have graduated from there this September. Big Mike as he was also known was already a rising star in the game of American Football.

He stood at six feet seven inches tall and weighed 350 pounds. He had the right physique for his ambition.

But that was before the unholy Sunday morning of July 11, 2004. Mike was shot dead that day in a gas station at North-East Dallas. He was barely 22. Ironically he had told his close friend Maurice Mckenzie that no one should cry for him in case of his death.

That is a tall order especially for his parents and siblings. When they recall the circumstance of his death it becomes even more difficult to comply with Mike?s wish. The sad story is that Mike had been involved in a vehicular collision with one Blake Callahan and an argument ensued between both of them. Callahan allegedly produced a short gun and shot Mike severally, ran into his car and disappeared into thin air .Sympathizers rushed him to the nearby Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 15 minutes after the shooting incident.

Yesterday, the Erokwu family of Inland Town Onitsha in Anambra State went through the torture of committing their son to mother earth to commence an early trip on which every mortal is bound to embark upon someday. His mother Mrs Obiageli Erokwu told Saturdauy Champion that her son was brutally killed by a fellow African-American who insisted that Mike must give him 200 hundred dollars for allegedly scratching his car. After some argument Mike was said to have rummaged through his pocket and found 150 dollars which he allegedly offered his assailant but rather than accept the money the 21-year ?old Callahan allegedly pulled his gun and shot Mike multiple times.

The late Nigerian-American was born in Houston Texas to the family of Akunwafor Obiora and Amalunweze Obiageli Erokwu on December 22 1981 . Shortly after he was weaned, his mother brought him back home . He attended Madonna Nursery and Primary School, Aguda Surulere in Lagos between 1987 and 1990. His primary school education was cut short in 1991 when his father, a diplomat was posted to Bonn in Germany. They returned to Nigeria in 1993 and Emeka was admitted into Federal Government College Odogbolu in Ogun State. On completion of junior secondary school, his parents sent him to America since he was a dual citizen to complete his high school there. It was at the Tyler college that his talent for American football was discovered.

He was so good in the game that his coach Mr Bill Maskil had this to say;

?Mike?s death is going to be a devastating blow to the team?He was very warm and genuine. Almost every body on campus knew him. Mike?s popularity was demonstrated as his team mates burned up the phone lines resulting in several of them rushing down to be with his brother and other players who were there when the shooting occurred?

Now some angry bullets from a fellow African-American has ended his ambition to be drafted into the American National league.
