Salam,

Convocation days are days that are eagerly awaited by every graduate, this is the day that you get to recieve your certificate and finally bid farewell to the university. It is a day of joy witnessed by family and loved ones.Unfourunately, that wasnt the case for us yesterday. What was supposed to be a convocation for graduates of Bayero University was turned to a total sham yesterday for someone that isnt even a graduate.

The convocation ceremony was turned to a political covention for Atiku, the campus was taken over by typically overzealous police men complete with poolice dogs trying to protect their master. They harrased all concerned and stopped the celebrants from entering the venue. It was so painful for us to watch as we were seperated from our families who had come to witness the ceremony. The convocation took place in the auditorium while our families and visitors were kept in a canopy outside. They had to watch proceedings on mounted televisions, something they could have done in the comfort of their homes.

This was all done for one man that has done so muchto make the future bleak for the graduates that were convocating. What has Atiku done to deserve the honour only the VC knows(it was given without the consent of the university senate, according to campus gossip).I felt sorry for myself while watching the proceedings. If people like Atiku are the role models the VC is putting foward for us to emulate, then this country has no future.

Lastly,i will like to appeal to the relevant authorities to next time try and resist the pressure to make such occassions avenues for scoring political points.Let them fish out good people and give them honours, how is Atiku better than Balarabe Musa?Is any one litsening?[/b]

Abut i agree with you totally. a person i know is a professor at BUK and he too told me that he sees no reason why Atiku really deserves this honor at this time. inajin abunda yakamata ma muce shine wai me zaisa muttum kamar Atiku, dayace shi ba Alhaji bane, abashi wannan abun.
Its not that he isn't entitled to this type of honor but why are so many more deserving folks skipped to bestow the honor unto Atiku. I'll rather Isa Waziri or Hassan hadejia get the honorary doctarate.
But its the prerogative of th university senate to honor whom they consider deserving and they have made their wish known.
Allah dai ya sawwake.

Well what can i say.I was there on saturday for the graduation thing and it was a real spectacle.Well we live in a world wher it ur money or ur position determines who you are.I beleive or rumour has it that the award was given to atiku abubakar because of the money he influenced to come through BUKs way from ETF.And now due to the monetisation of any thing in sight even the universities have become a money making organisation. So whos name would bring more money to BUK,I.B.B?Buhari?OBJ?even the late emir of  Kano? no i dont think so when you want money now in NIgeria just associate urself with the no. 2 man and you will be laughing to the bank.As they say in hausa it is a potential adashe or eye service factor. So Atiku was given a doctorate and BUK was given loads of donations by well wishers of or people that want to  be associated with Dr. Atiku Abubakar. Well i dont support it but the basic truth is the world is now all about money for hand back for ground. So who cares that we come and celebrate with our families and freinds?how much will that add to BUKs coffers? :!:  :!:  :!:

Allah wadan naka ya lalace. What was happening in the other universities muma ya iso wajen mu. Look at Atiku, who should hand his head in shame and apologise to this nation for wreaking so much wounds on it and his religion is honour with doctorate degree by our reputable university and celebrated as outstanding citizen.

If I may advice the senotoria board of BUK to go back to dictionary and rediscover the meaning of Patriotism,Service, Character and intergity.

Guys what does Atikus faith and title he wants to be called with have to do with the merits or demerits of his being confered with the honorary degree?  I would have believed his believes (in terms of religion) are personal to him and he has only God to answer to.  Please let us not mix issues you will belittle/degrade the points you are making.  Apart from that I think yes confering of honorary degrees in nigerian universities is a disaster.

It is indeed very sad that BUK authorities could succumb to political intrigues, by honoring a clearly undeserved personality.

Does it mean that Nigeria is so dearth of real leaders?

Or does it mean that one has to be extremely loaded if he were to be honored?

What has become of BUK,that once honored the likes of Mandela,Mal. Aminu Kano,Wilmot etc

Kwadayi dai mabudin wahala! :!:
