The Jigawa state House of Assembly has met to discuss the impeachment of the state deputy governor accused of allegedly planning to dump the PDP and return to the ANPP.

Yesterday, the House met to discuss a new and urgent development in the state over plans by 14 commissioners to leave the party for the ANPP in support of deputy governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan. They believe he has been unfairly blocked from becoming the party?s choice to succeed Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, next year.

Already 30 Special Advisers, 20 Special Assistants have threatened to resign over the political development rocking the state as the attempts to unseat the deputy governor.

The House reconvened Tuesday and declared itself on recess indefinitely. This time is needed to begin the impeachment process against Alhaji Hassan, government sources said.

The deputy governor is alleged to have been approached by the national headquarters of the ANPP to come back to the party as he was said to be assured a ticket as the preferred candidate of the party in the state.
Information Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Dandoka, denied the allegation. He told newsmen that the state government has no intention whatsoever to impeach the deputy governor, describing the development as the handiwork of some people who want to cause confusion in the state.

Information Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Dandoka, denied the allegation. He told newsmen that the state government has no intention whatsoever to impeach the deputy governor, describing the development as the handiwork of some people who want to cause confusion in the state.

He said: ?I want to call on our people to disregard the development as a rumour and continue with their normal activities,? he said.

The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Adamu Atmos Ahmed, also denied any plot. He said the House has not met over any impeachment threat on the state?s deputy governor.

While describing the development as false, he said the allegation of impeachment is just another handiwork of some detractors to cause confusion in the state.

But party sources said former Foreign Affairs Minister, Sule Lamido, has been endorsed as the preferred candidate to succeed Governor Ibrahim Turaki.

A directive is said to have been issued to all aspirants in the PDP to drop their interest in favor of the former minister, a development Daily Trust learnt is creating tension
