I have been wondering what I am going to write as
the subject matter of this my thread, so, i am now
living it to my fellow members to think appropriately
and tagg a name to it.

Ever notice those writings in most of our commercial
cars plying our roads, both local and national routes?
The last time i was traveling to Lagos on board this
luxurious bus, each time we are overtaking a bus, i
notice that there must be a writing either at the rear
glass, sideways or by the car's (bamba).

Even the local taxis within the state capital, you will
notice all sort of writings.  I took my time to ask one
taxi driver and he informed me that most o these
writing are true feelings of what has happened to the
driver or owner of the vehicle.  I came to also under-
stand that it is a form of message conveyed to whom
it may concern.

Among those I can be able to remember is:
Mahassada kun yi sake as writing on one long
truck.

Another one was written in yoruba language, may be
those who understand yoruba can translate its meaning
to us - Isi Oluwani

There is one particular one that caught my attention that
even led me to ask the driver why he wrote this, it reads
Oho dai.  The driver told me that, each time they
come back from Lagos his friends use to tease him that
he was over-taken on the highway, because his speed is
too low compared to his colleagues, so he decided that
its time he sent them a message that "Oho dai" even if
you over take me.

Some of the writing are:-

Kallo ya koma sama
Mashi wen  (in shuwa arab, meaning "when did you go"
Wabillahi taofik
Karya kakeyi
The young shall grow
Dont kiss me
God's time is the best
Modupe Oluwa
Cry your own cry
Mahassada kun yi sake
Hakuri maganin zaman duniya
Usama bin Laden

ok guys, can you remember any vehicle with such
writings and its meaning?

DB,

I think the title shouldn't be called "No Subject Matter". Why. You said, in the post, that you have asked some owners of such vehicles and explained to you why he did write what he's written, which that simply reveales that there is purpose/subject matter behind his tag. Isn't that true? Since there is that, you should think, a bit more deeply for a suitable title and give your thread. LOL

And to the question of seeing other tags like these listed; there are bundles of such. And, don't be surprise, but these almost all the time am going on road, especially when am riding my bike, I use to too imagine and ask myself why this tag/wise saying/proverb, prayer, picture, etc on this car? Cars with these are mostly commercial ones. You'll rarely see a private car with it.

Let me think if I could list some more. For instance; Malam Tsaya da Kafarka, Jariri Uban Wataran, Sorry Baby; to time for you, Kwandala ta fi Cika, etc. And pictures include that of Hausa film actors and actreses, Usama Bn Laden, politicians like Shekarau, Kwankwaso, and host of others, Football clubs badges, kai da komaima.

If I find room, I'll also ask few of these drivers as did DB. But am afraid not to be beaten when doing so...LOL ;D

Oh...DB, I now grasp it. But, is that an assignment to forumites?

Well, to my own comprehension of it, I can say that the subject matter is why such 'unnecessary' writing, posters, etc on our vehicles? While we can leave them the way they are. And moreover, do these send or suggest real message to the viewers or are just gibberish, etc.

Do I try? LOL ;D

Isi Oluwani

I think it means Jesus is lord or something. Oluwa is God, and oluwani means "...is God". Isi sounds like Yesu which comes from (yesus or hesu)Jesus. Or even Isah.....then again, i could be wrong

I believe they are called graffiti.
They are usually a slogan that the driver fancies and most of the time that is his 'inkiya'(as the 'yan tasha' call it)
Sometimes kuma its a warning to the trailing vehicle like 'horn before overtaking'

Here are some few i usually see:

Da niyya kake
Garin mu da nisa
Kai ma haka
Falaki da nasi

Personally I dont like those messages on the cars. I dont even like any form of grafiti. I like art, I like sending messages, but I do not like savage behaviours... Call it colourdul or funny, I just find it too raw

Well said, Ibro2g. I too don't like such writings. Though can't say why, to be sincere, but I won't write a words, neither would I post any body's pic on my vehicle.

@DB and Bajoga, you made me laugh, really. You guys are at times funny.

i am highly surprised at both Ibro and Muhsin's comment
on these writing, in ba kuba, ina kuka taba ganin wanda
yayi karatun zamani sa'annan yaje ya fara rubutu irin
wannan a private motarsa.

those making these writing have there reasons, and their
reasons is serving them very well.  it may interest you to
note that these people hardly read english alphabets,
however, they can pronounce the writings on their vehicle
and even give you its meaning both literal and golden.

as far as these thread is concern is we are trying to identify
these writings and their significance to the commercial drivers
in our society.

It says a lot and is interesting.
I know someone that did her PhD research on the subject matter.
