" No Woman, No Cry" recorded live at Leeds is one of the great records of the 20th century.
maigemu

Dan-Borno

yes Maigemu ur correct.  So many people
misunderstood the concept of this song,
the Legendary dedicated this song to his
mother.  She has suffered so much while
bringing the legend up.  there is a coma
in front of the No as in (No, ) and the No
in the Cry should be read as (Dont) thus
No, Woman, Dont Cry.

So many people misunderstood this to be
No Woman No Cry - without women, we
wont be crying - this is b**l s**t, without
women, we will always be crying.

Mufi

This is one of my fav. song from the legend....

I wanna love you and treat you right...
I wanna love you every day and every night

We'll be together with a roof right over our heads
We'll share the shelter of my single bed
We'll share the same room, yeah!! - for Jah provide the bread.

Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?

I wanna know - wanna know - wanna know now!
I got to know - got to know - got to know now!..........

cant stop laughing, just imagining the scenario off head.

yeah that was marleys buffalo soldier album.  This song was
one of Bob Marley's biggest posthumous hits. He seemed took
a keen interest in social issues and historical developments.
Hence the Buffalo soldiers being used to fight another racial
minority that were deemed to be a threat by white people
and then treated with disdain after winning the war for America
was very intriguing to him

The name buffalo soldiers was given to the black men that made
up most of the army which were used to displace Native Americans
from their reservations in the name of the United States Manifest
Destiny doctrine. These men were mostly slaves taken directly from
Africa and other freed black men who were for the most part illiterate
and ignorant as to the motives of the American government.

The Indians called the men buffalo soldiers because of their racially
distinct features that of thick wool like hair, thick lips and broad noses.
Many have declared the term as racist.

Lokacin da muke sakandare, so many of our friends thought that
for you to smoke "ganja" "yarmu" "wiwi" "bas" "chaku" etc is all
about being Marley's lover not knowing that there is a great deal of
lessons for the african child.

Allah yasa masu shan gulafa su gane gaskiya su daina, mu kuma da
bamu sha Allah ya kare mu.

Assalamu alaikum,
Lalle yaro ya kawo Mugun abu a cikin gidansu ' Bob marley'- ko yaron yana shan ganja ne? Allah (SWT) Ya karemu.
I read this from an Islamic book:

One of the popular Companions of the Holy Prophet (SAW) Abdullah Bin Mas'ud (RA) said, "Singing (music) germinates hypocrisy in the heart as rains germinate plants from the ground, likewise remembrance of Allah germinates faith in the heart as rains make plants to germinate from the soil." Similarly, Salam bin Miskin [RA], quoting an old man who witnessed Abu Wa'il in a wedding feast, said: They began to play, amuse and sing. He supported his knees, that were drawn up, with his hand and said, "I heard Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) say: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say: ''Singing produces hypocrisy in the heart."
In the Affairs of People Fear Allah (SWT). In the Matters Relating to Allah (SWT) Do not be Afraid of Anybody. Ibn Katthab (RA).

The song i ever really liked from the late legend is redemption song. Reggae is my least of music choices but then this one somehow catches my attention:

Artist: Bob Marley
Album: Legend
Title: Redemption Song

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.
Won't you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

Bob Marley's Redemption song is one of Legend's
most recognized and best known (lyrical content)
songs.

"How long shall they kill our prophets, while we stand
aside and look?" is indeed a timeless piece of social
commentary.

The black power movement in the United States of
America had seen many leaders of the struggle against
oppression such as Malcolm X and Medgar Evers cut down
by the bullet. . Such was the time, a revolutionary period.

Many black leaders are still dying although not a physical
death but a mental one that is just as dangerous while
imperial forces seek to re colonize places such as Africa.

This legend of a musician was at this coming to the end of
his physical journey but starting a fire that would last way
into the twentieth century and beyond. Without much in depth
analysis it is essential a straight forward track delivering a
wholesome picture of the philosophy of an artist that had c
ome full circle in both his life and career.

on february 6th, the world over will be celebrating the
bob marley day, here in kanoonline, i will keep on
reminding you guys, so that we join hands together in
remembering the hero.

Lets refresh our memories, reflect and ponder with this song
"Ambush In The Night" - its really inspirational.

(Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!)
See them fighting for power (ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!),
But they know not the hour (ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!),;
So they bribing with their guns, spare-parts and money,
Trying to belittle our
Integrity now.
They say what we know
Is just what they teach us;
And we're so ignorant
'Cause every time they can reach us (shoobe, doo-wa)
Through political strategy (shoo-be, doo-wa);
They keep us hungry (shoobe, doo-wa),
And when you gonna get some food (shoobe, doo-wa),
Your brother got to be your enemy, we-e-ell!

Ambush in the night,
All guns aiming at me;
Ambush in the night,
They opened fire on me now.
Ambush in the night,
Protected by His Majesty.
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee. Ooh-wa-ooh!
(Ooh-wee) Ooh-wee, ooh-wee (ooh-wa), Ooh-wa!
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh wa-ooh!
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh wa-ah!

Well, what we know
Is not what they tell us;
We're not ignorant, I mean it,
And they just cannot touch us;
Through the powers of the Most-I (shoobe, doo-wa),
We keep on surfacin' (shoobe, doo-wa);
Thru the powers of the Most-I (shoobe, doo-wa),
We keep on survivin'.

Yeah, this ambush in the night
Planned by society;
Ambush in the night;
They tryin' to conquer me;
Ambush in the night
Anyt'ing money can bring;
Ambush in the night
Planned by society;
Ambush in the night.

When we troddin' down Jericho walls:
These are the days when we'll trod t'rough Babylon, (na-na, na-na)
Gonna trod until Babylon falls.

It gives great joy to see such sweet togetherness,
'Cause everyone's doin' and they're doing their best.
