doctors are not too friendly, you can attest to that if you
take a visit to our public hospitals, you dare not ask your
doctor questions and you dare not argue with him and if
you attempt anything like that, be rest assured you will
be sent out of the examination room.

now, we are going IT and access to brilliant brains is becoming
easier these days, hence my intention to create this thread
purposely to fire questions and counter questions to our
noble doctor el-ta'alu bokan turawa.

my first question is concerning CANCER, anan gida we refer
it to DAJI and its becoming very rampant while if you go to
our hospitals they advise you to go and try home medication,
is it true there is no cure and it cant be detected at a very early
stage, and if it can be detected, do we have any hospital in naija
that have that facilities?

ka huta lafiya likita.

As defined and described by the Wiki Foundation, cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division  beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis  (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, and do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not. The branch of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer is oncology. Cancers can be acquired or heriditary, and are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material - DNA - of the transformed cells.
Do you wonder what the difference is between high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) - and why your levels matter? HDL is popularly known as the "good" cholesterol, because in this form, cholesterol is transported out of the arteries and back to the liver for eventual elimination from the body. LDL is called the "bad" cholesterol because it combines with other substances that can accumulate in the walls of arteries to form "plaque." Over time, this plaque builds up within the arterial walls, causing them to narrow and harden. The rough surface of plaque can also provide a site for blood to clot, sometimes completely blocking an artery.
Both HDL and LDL levels are influenced by heredity, diet, weight, exercise, age, gender, alcohol consumption, and stress. According to the guidelines from the National Cholesterol Education Program, HDL levels of 60 mg/dl or above are classified as high and considered protective against heart disease, while levels below 40 mg/dl are classified as low and are associated with a higher risk of coronary heart disease.

Management of cancer is very expensive abroad, it is time demanding, and is a great problem not only in Nigeria, but also im many European countries. It can be detected before or even after it begins to  metastasize.  The problem, I think, involves lack of oncologists in the country, as well as putting money by the government in its research.
My advice to people is to resort to valeologically healthy ways of living. This involves alot of things, especially the type of food we eat, and water we drink. This is because the abnormalities may be due to the effects of carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, radiation, chemicals, or infectious agents.

Salam,

What an awesom initiative, DB?! I see you really gear-up to that administrative duties on KanoOnline; and am telling you you deserve it.  :)

To Doctor: as already pleaded GGNK, please bear with members questions. What DB says concerning the unhealthy attitudes of our comtemporary docs is very true. That reminds me of one piece I recently composed--The Experience I'll Never Forget. It's about my stay at hospital some years back and the sordid instances I witnessed there.

May Allah easy the task for you, Doctor; and help us all.

The best advice I can give you, and anyone interested in birth control, is to resort to "Natural Family Planning Method". Would you be interested in it, do not hesitate asking.
