Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Let not your love be infatuation, and let not your hatred be destruction." It was asked, "How is this?" He said, "When you love, you are infatuated like a child; and when you hate, you love destruction for your companion."

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani

عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ لاَ يَكُنْ حُبُّكَ كَلَفًا وَلاَ بُغْضُكَ تَلَفًا فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ ذَاكَ قَالَ إِذَا أَحْبَبْتَ كَلِفْتَ كَلَفَ الصَّبِيِّ وَإِذَا أَبْغَضْتَ أَحْبَبْتَ لِصَاحِبِكَ التَّلَف
