I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.

I just ran across this thread and I think it fit right here....

I think the speaking fone part is just that. An attempt to sound comprehensible. If you can't beat them, shebi you go join them shey?. The whole time you are trying to talk, they are staring at you like a deer caught in headlights. As if you're speaking Russian or something. Some of them keep saying "what?, excuse me? pardon"? All of that make person tire so you just try to speak like them so at least they can understand you. They are the majority here and you are in their country, you gotta learn to adapt somehow. If you are in Nigeria and some oyinbo person come, they have to try and adapt to your language too.

Believe it or not, I have also heard of cases where people were turned down for jobs because they were not "fluent" enough. It's just like speaking ebonics. This oyinbo people self.

In addition, if you've lived abroad for a few years, you can't help but pick up on the accent. When everyone around you speak in a certain way, you will most likely pick up on it, consciously or subconsciously. If you are Ibo but you grew up in Kano, you will eventually find yourself speaking hausa.

What is it about Yankees n Abroadians? U Zis kanoonliners r 2 interogatory....u guys r making it sound as ip going abroad is a sin! I fersonally habe a sfecial dislyk por feofle who pronts....but abroadians got 2 b understood...zey habe adafted 2 ze way op ze Eurofeans... it's normal about adapting a language zat is sfoken in an area whereby ur own language is not sfoken....damma basu ma manta naija languages din ba.

And talking about ?ze isue op whites not adapting 2 our languages intime is b'cos ze didnt study our language as zeir lingua-pranca but we studyied zeirs since we were "yan tamilo's"...so u c...it wil b easy por us 2 adapt.

I know zat zeir zose guys who go abroad just 1ce n not por a long tym, n come back began 2 pront lyk say zeir papa na frime minister por dem clinton dem. But ip u were in zeir shoes u ?will do tha same ...fut zat in ur Brains! AM out!

Surayya Galandanci

Nima dai bari na tofa nawa albarkacin. Duk da dai wani turanci bana fahimta manufarta.  I will not say it is not happening and I will not say it is rampant. Like Galadanci, it is like an urban area. We have people trooping into that area. I was walking down to escort a freind who came to visit me, there was a gentleman in a nice car looking all elegant who parked around a curb. As usual everyone likes to show off their GSM. he was talking about going to the States abu kaza dai shiyayi kaza, immediately he spotted us just few paces behind him aka fara mana kwalisa yana wani cewa shi kuda sun isheshi. Ina dalili dai? Abun nasu sai su masu iyawa, mudai yan kallo ne

hi everyone. this is interesting. i agree that there are some people that put on fake accents but then there are also some people that have accents that are in-between local and foreign but are not necessarily fake. to us they might sound fake but i sincerely believe that if you live abroad for a few years the way u pronounce some words can change and you may not even be aware of it. Anyway, to tell you the truth the way some nigerians slaughter the english language they should not be allowed to open their mouths, for goodness sake when obasanjo speaks on CNN they have to put subtitles!!!!!!!!!! shame

WAYYO ALLAH CIKINA. HA HA HA HA HA.............YOU DONT MEAN IT??? SUBTITLES?? WHAT!!!!?
IF OBANSANJO SPEAKS ENGLISH, YOU BE THINKING WHAT IN LORDS NAME IS HE ON ABOUT? NOT TO MENTION HOW LONG HIS SPEECHES ARE.

BUT HONESTLY, YORUBA HAVE  THICK ENGLISH ACCENT, HAUSA & IGBO THEIR ACCENT IS NOT AS THICK AS YORUBAS.........BECAUSE THEY PRONOUNCE EVERY SINGUL LE-T-T-ER. I MET THIS YORUBA DUDE WHO WENT TO YANKEE AND CAME BACK, VISITING MY BROTHER WE WATCHED DRAMA!!!. EVEN HIS PIGIN ENGLISH WAS IN SLANGS. HE GOES TO MY BROTHER "WERRIN DEY HAN" MEANING WETIN DEY HAPPUN.........

NACE SHOWWWWWWWWW :?
