Yar'adua returns to work next week - Associates

Written by Suleiman Bissalla

President Umaru Musa Yar'adua
The on-going scramble for positions in a soon to be reconstituted Federal cabinet could shortly hit a brick wall because President Umaru Yar'adua intends to resume duties in his office next week, a top source close to the ailing president told Daily Trust yesterday. However, another family source separately told Daily Trust that Yar'adua will be fit to resume work by the end of next month.

according to the top sources, Yar'adua intends to make a national radio and television broadcast to signal his resumption of work as early as Monday or Wednesday next week. They said Yar'adua may not write a letter to the National Assembly intimating it of his return because he did not transmit a letter before he proceeded on medical vacation, even though his spokesman later said Yar'adua recognised Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President.

Both sources said Yar'adua has made much progress physically since his return to the country late last month, and that his remaining medical problem now is speech-related. The sources said the ailing president now walks around the house and also around the garden, where there are many birds and animals.

They said Yar'adua brought a speech therapist with him from the Saudi Arabian hospital and the doctor has been working since then to improve his speech. Both sources said he has made progress in his speech. One of the sources told Daily Trust that Yar'adua's return to the country last month was "premature," and that he was brought back before he finished his therapy "for political reasons."

In the last two weeks, Daily Trust learnt that Yar'adua received several visiting family members, close friends, some political associates, some state governors and also some personal staff, even though he has not yet met with Acting President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience, however visited the residence and they met with Hajia Turai Yar'adua.

The sources said Yar'adua's seclusion since his return to the country was ordered by the Saudi doctors because he suffered a severe infection while at the Saudi hospital when he received some visitors. The people who have been able to meet with him after his return, the sources said, were made to go through some disinfecting chambers before they were ushered into his presence. Those procedures have ended now, the sources said.

According to our sources, Yar'adua is not happy with the Acting President for sacking his aides, instituting a probe of his regime's contract awards and dissolving his council of ministers. It is therefore likely that his resumption of work would severely upstage the on-going selection of new ministers by the Acting President.

Yar'adua first left the country for medical treatment in Saudi Arabia on November 21, last year and returned to the country after 93 days. While he was away, the National Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution in early February to recognise the Vice President as Acting President, despite Yar'adua's failure to transmit a letter of medical vacation in line with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution.

Since Yar'adua's return to the country, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has continued to run the country and has carried out many far-reaching political measures, including dissolving the Federal cabinet last Wednesday.

Rubbish!! Wai za a tauna tsakuwa dan aya da ji tsoro ko zafi ko? These ppl around Yar adua are the ones that will eventually cause his ultimate demise. I am sure there is no way the president is fit to resume office and even if that is so, a speech impairment is a severe handicap for his ability to function effectively.
Turai is seeing her position and hold on power being eroded in front of her eyes. Likewise the cohorts and mukarrabai that surround her. So at all costs the president must go back to work. I dont believe for one second that his incarceration from the public eye had anything to do with his Saudi Doctors. Ten to one, they adviced against moving him back to Nigeria in the first place. Now that being incommunicado (so that Nigerians dont gauge properly the extent of the president's weakened state) is backfiring, the cohorts want to lump an incoherent invalid on us. Yar adua must be so taken up with his illness to worry about what Goodluck Jonathan is up to. I am sure as a true believer, Yar adua must now be concerned with his eternal abode more than what is happening on this earthly abode. What has he got to gain by being so obstinate about this presidency? As a muslim he is better off out of it at this stage of his existence than in it as the president of Nigeria. Leadership is an incredibly grave responsibility in Islam and even the best of Muslims like Sayyidina Umar were known to be apprehensive about how they discharged this burden when they think of their meeting with Allah concerning it, how much more will lesser individuals like the rest of us mortals dread the reckoning especially when we find ourselves in the position that Yar adua finds himself right now?
So this like I said is all a cooked up response to hold on to an already slipping grip on power by those who would be worst affected by this sudden change of govt. I am willing to bet that Yar adua will make no such appearance on tv or any where else to stamp a claim on the leadership. Even if he can make an appearance, he is simply unfit at the moment to rule.
Turai and Company pls leave the stage to more competent souls.

good one, auntyn muhsin, i even start wondering weather
it is possible to buy the front page of a national daily, because
what daily trust did is never in consonance with its policies,
because the story lacks credibility and unworthy of a news
to be placed at the front page.  daily trust should know that
all eyes are on them and better practice journalism as it is.

The U.S,through the CIA has informed GJ and the people that matter in Nigeria that Yar'adua, from the best of their intelligence, cannot become healthy again to rule. They have obtained the medical records from the saudi doctors and have revealed his ailment to those that matter.
Simply put,Jonathan knows well his former boss isn't coming back.

The people behind Yar'adua should learn from their mistakes.
Yar'aduas mistake is that all his 'mukarrabai' don't have the nationwide knowledge of how Nigeria can be run and manipulated.
They lack the National political know how. All of them are local state champions.
Ba su san yadda ake munafurcin Nigeria ba. They thought because they succeeded in Katsina they could implement same Nationally.
If he had known he should have allied with the likes of Tony Anenih, Ahmadu Ali and the likes.
Duka munafukai ne but they get things done, your own way.
He should have taken a lesson from the way Obasanjo ruled the country.Use and Dump.

In my own observation, i believe Nigeria needs a person with a military background.
Somehow they seem to be strong and they get things done whether good or bad.

In summary,an yi defeating yar'adua and his 'cohorts' as Husnaa would say.
1-0.
Its not the end of the world.
Goodluck might be way slower than Yar'adua.
Surely after suffering comes enjoyment

I some time feel like to pray the return of the military, but if I remember that, the role(s) played by the Abacha Boys & Babangida Boys during their bosses' regimes is almost the same role 'Yar adua Boys are playing, I only say God save US and our COUNTRY!
