Wani azumi I did when I was a university fresh(wo)man. It was so so so hot, I think I forgot to drink water da asuba before the commencement of the azume, so by 9 am, I was so thirsty, I could drink a drumful of water. I somehow managed to hang on and go about life, half alive, half somewhere. So at around 3 pm i came across this water cooling machine. I immediately pressed the tap, and the most deliciously icy cold water dribbled over my fingers. A gargantuan temptation to break my fast came over me. I looked down at the water  spouting into my hand and bent over. At that moment, I thought to myself that this thirst i was feeling was temporary. However, as a result of my action right now, I could end up in hell, with a much more unedurable thirst that can never be quenched har abada. Believe me at that moment sai naji kishirwar ta tafi. I stopped feeling it, at least for as long as it took me to get out ot the way of temptation!!
Guess it was the big bad devil tempting me his way and Allah Ya taimaka min i resisted him!!

Quick mindful refreshments 2 nourish ur minds ppls!!!![/b][/size]

1. Don't expect it to be easy. Thirty consecutive days is tough. But with Allah's help, it will become the best 30 days of your life.

2. Remember: Ramadan is not about abstaining from food and drink till sunset only and being compassionate toward the poor, it is also about purifying your heart from sinful thoughts and actions and zooming out of this world and seeing the real meaning behind it. Don't let your fasting be restricted to thirst and hunger.

3. Enjoy the moments of fasting by getting to know your self, your weaknesses and strengths. Ramadan is a real eye opener as the devils are all locked up and you get to know just exactly how sinful your soul is. Can't blame it on the devil this time. If you find yourself still thinking of doing something wrong, then try to meditate on that and how to cure your heart from this.

4. Do good to everyone. Begin that holy month by forgiving all those who have wronged you. Call, email or visit those who have hurt you. Wish them a happy and blessed Ramadan.

5. Try to get as many loved ones as you can gather for "iftar" every day. It is a chance to reconnect with family and friends.

6. Don't forget to include the poor and less fortunate in your daily meal plans.

7. Take your friends and family to Taraweeh prayers every day. Together you will pray for each other and for all. It will be a memorable experience insha Allah.

8. Make it a plan to touch somebody's life everyday. Start planning from now, whom you can help and how.

9. Finally, compete with yourself to bring out the very best in you. Allah is watching. Make Him happy.

Happy month, happy people, what more do we need in a year? We shud consider ourselves very lucky to be among those that have survived the dramatic 2007 upto Ramadan again, e no easy o!

It seemed like yesterday we were calculating the number of months, weeks and finally days remaining for Ramadan, today its here. Alhamdullilah!

Mine was ...well i will say Ok,  yesterday i was so sick, my cranium felt like cracking, i had a terrible migrane, i had to conclude that i will wake up ill today and miss the first day of fasting, but Allah works in a miraculous way, i woke up strong and healthy, but still im ashame to admit azumin ya bani wahala bazanyi karya ba, i had about 2 boring historical lectures to attend, not to talk of the amount of sleep my eyes was detaining, but from around 3pm, i started feeling normal like everyother day, no be se i go backyard go raise cup o! ehen! kawai i began feeling strong and patiently waiting for the countdown of shan ruwa to drain. lol

Salaam alaikum bro/sis, hope u all having a nice time. This is a mesage i would like to share with you which i recieved recently from a friend...

FWD:

For most Muslims, Ramadan is family time. You get up together, eat Iftar together, pray together, etc. But what if you don't have your family near you? Waking up in a lonely apartment and eating food you've sometimes burnt in an effort to catch Sahur in time are some of the realities of being a single Muslim in Ramadan. But there are ways to make Ramadan special when you're on your own. Here are a couple of ideas.

1. Establish a Sahur telephone tree
Get a couple of friends together and establish a telephone tree to wake each other up for Sahur. Establish a time to call and a schedule of who will call whom. Make it a little exciting by adding some funny phrases every week that will really wake everyone up (e.g. "ASSALAMU ALIAKUM" This is the Sahur Sister/Brother calling. Rise and shine y'all for some morning munchies!).

2. Invite people over for Iftar
Even if you couldn't eat the food the last time you cooked, invite people over for Iftar. Make it a potluck, order pizza or if you can afford it, get it catered. The food isn't the thing. The blessing is in the company, and you'll be rewarded for feeding everyone. Make sure to especially invite those who are away from their families.

3. Attend prayers at the local mosque/MSA
Even if the Imam's recitation isn't the best and the behavior of other Muslims can be more than annoying, try to attend Tarawih prayers organized by your local mosque or your Muslim Students' Association (MSA). While praying alone in peace and quiet is great, praying shoulder-to-shoulder with other Muslims with whom you have nothing in common except your faith is a unique and uplifting experience.

4. Get involved in community programs
It may seem hard to squeeze in time for anything else in Ramadan, but try, at least once, to do some volunteer work. Cook a meal for those who attend the MSA Iftar; volunteer for a day at a soup kitchen; help make or distribute flyers for a Ramadan program; make Ramadan Mubarak loot bags of candy for the kids at your local mosque. The possibilities are numerous. The point is to give to others so you can get back what's priceless.

5. Keep the Quran playing when you are alone at home
It's often tempting to keep the TV or radio on when we're alone at home to avoid the silence. This Ramadan, find a CD or cassette of a Quran reciter you like and play it during those moments when you want to fill your place with some sound. Choose selections you'd like to memorize, like the 30th part of the Quran.

6. Eat properly- don't resort to burnt toast and egg
Not eating Sahur and Iftar properly will make you crabby, irritated and sick (as opposed to healthy, wealthy and wise). Establish a personal Ramadan meal plan. Choose healthy, easy-to-make recipes so you're not scrambling at the last minute for something to eat.

7. Keep in touch with family and friends back home
Send Ramadan e-cards, thoughts, reflections, questions, etc. via phone or email to family and friends. Keep in contact at least once a week and share three Ramadan-related things you've done in the last ten days of Ramadan.

8. Take care of others
Know a new person at the school/office? Is a friend who lives nearby having problems with their spouse? Or is someone you know having money problems? This Ramadan, reach out with an attentive ear, a generous hand, and most importantly, an open heart to others. Don't let these small opportunities for gaining blessings slip you by.

9. Decorate your crib
Add some festivity to your spare surroundings by dressing the place up with a Ramadan banner, balloons and streamers. Even after a rough day, coming home to a decorated home is a boost to the spirits.

10. Pick and pursue Ramadan goals
Choose at least three goals to pursue this Ramadan. Whether it's curbing a bad habit or starting a good one, doing this will help you focus and work harder this month to change for the better. It takes 21 days to establish a good habit. With Ramadan, we've got 29/30. Why not make the best of it by picking up the good? ".

May Allah [SWA] guide us towards reaping complete benefits embedded within this blessed month" Ameen! - Ramadan Mubarak!" O MANKIND ALWAYS REMEMBER!!

Muhsin kwarnafi is like a burning sensation on the chest it is referred to as heartburn(acid indigestion), believe me its not a pleasant thing to have most especially when u r fasting traditionally ppl use kanwa or u can take antacids which ever one u have or preferred.

Ai; sahur ma kukayi da ita?  ;D ;D ;D Well never mind, ance rashin sani yafi dare duhu. Amma on a serious note, you guys should avoid drinking tsammammiyar fura, because the tsami comes from fermentation and anything fermented contains alcohol as a by product. The alcohol is what makes one feel lethargic and sleepy.....
I love tsammamiyar fura myself, but I had to make myself stop drinking it.

Enuff with the tsammamiyar fura talks, i mean u guys shud have more simpler meals for sahur u know, i have learned that whenever u over eat, you tend to suffer ramadan than the usual days.

What's simpler than fura? It's just like taking liquid/fluid. Me I find it easier to take at sahur than solid food. And I believe some ppl prefer su cika cikinsu, in ba haka ba suna shan wahalar azumi. So I think it all depends on individuals.

Muhsin kwarnafi is like a burning sensation on the chest it is referred to as heartburn(acid indigestion), believe me its not a pleasant thing to have most especially when u r fasting traditionally ppl use kanwa or u can take antacids which ever one u have or preferred.
Great thanks to Dr. Mumcee for such a medical explanation. But please, can I ask another question because you seem to know much about the field, isn't it?

What's the difference between that kwarnafi and magwas? Though I don't know what the latter mean specifically yet your explanation of the former reveals that there is relation between the two as pontificated my friend sitting beside me.

Ah to! Judging by the ego in your attitude when you were bragging one would think  oyou got an iron tummy, abi na just pre-sahur santi?

That's the irony really. Most time if one doesn't eat much for sahur, you end up having an easy fasting. I'm tempted to try the tazarce most times, but liver dey fail me ;D

Salam to all in the house and wishin you happy ramadan
kareem.

Last year i was listening to one sheikh's tafsir on the radio
and he made mention of how 'we' use to break our fast with
so many foods on the table ranging from fruits, pepe soup,
chips, eggs etc.  He now wondered if at all we are feeling the
impact of the fasting?

He continued saying that fasting is prescribed for a purpose
and that purpose is for self discipline throughout the period
of the month, it is after this self discipline that we end the
ramadan with a zakat of major food to those who cannot
afford after undergoing same system.

However, cautioned us that during the month of ramadan we
should try as much as possible to minimize eating too much
after breaking the fast, as this will be tantamount to the
spiritual training to be benefited from the fasting.

I agree with him.

Kiss and hug in some cultures is sometime nothing but part of greeting dan barno,  if you

I think all these are uncalled for. Dan Barno should please learn to understand with most of these girls at Konline. Some of them are living far away from us and they are intermingling with other cultures. To them the word KISS does not mean anything. But to you it might connote a different meaning. Nonetheless, Myself you should take heart and kindly chew what you vomit. Please we are all friends and partners in progress. Hhmmm, now I'm beginning to smell why the ladies decide to desert this great forum
which used to be great fun/educative for all genders..... HOW SAD!! :(

Look, whatever DB said, you have no excuse to go about calling his MOTHER. It is unwarranted for. We respect each other here. Fine, we might poke fun at one another now and then, and occasionally a member may overdo it. But we draw the line at insults. You could've asked him to stop. Tell him you don't like/enjoy his tsokana. Whatever. But you just don't go to the extent of mentioning his mother. It is totally uncalled for, and very immature.

I never intend to reply, because I believe we make
Mistakes not even in the forum but also at our work
Places.

However, I decided to say something because SHE is
Trying to justify what she did by digging hard into the
Archives to see if I have ever offended someone, and
Unfortunately SHE only came up with this, which as far
As I am concern and GGNK himself knew it was a joke
And nothing else, except if its only now that you realize
What I said was wrong even though you didn't bring it
To the forum's attention.

This is what transpired at that thread:-

Only God can interven in this act of personality terrorism

It was purely out of joke I mentioned the above statement.

          Oops!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

However, it was you myself that gave it a different meaning
When you replied with the above surprise smiley which led to
Waduz basing his judgement on them as follows:-

Quote from: waduz on December 12, 2007, 08:52:02 AM
Haba DBN, I think Goga is only being a bit generous with his predictions. Believe meant he meant well! Now we know for sure you do not smoke! Afterall, we are just merely predicting! I am eargerly waiting for a prediction on my humble self! ;D

I never joke with anybody's mother in this forum.

Despite above, I am tendering my unreserved apologies
To you MYSELF and the likes of you who in one way
Or the other I offended without knowing.

Thanks to all those who chip in to resolve this issue.

Abin kunya ne for others to visit this site and see that we've resorted to insulting our FATHERS & MOTHERS. Maybe you did it in the heat of the moment, but I know deep down even you know it ain't right.

Anyway, I'm happy it is settled. Bygones be bygones. But pls let us act with caution in the future. Very few of us have ever met, but we still 'meet' and enjoy one another's company here. This place has become sort of a home to us. We are like a family in diaspora. Lets keep it that way. Thank you.

But I still have high regards and respect for the K-online's Jibo i.e. my Dad's name sake!!! So Daddy,(laughs), I remain your humble son in name but not in spirit( Lol!!!)

And to Myself, I initially registered as Jibo Nura in this forum four years ago. After having some problems with the website by the webmaster, Mallam Salisu Dan yaro, I could not continue with my former screen name. So I had to register with Nuruddeen. And most of us then including the legendary Waziri encountered similar problems.

Hope all is clear now Myself and Husnaa?

@ BKGZ i am not on exile.
This is the first time da nake azumi a garin da musulmi are minority.
It is quite interesting sha. The first day i did iftar with Amala and banga soup and sahur with meatpie and water.
Second day i i took ofada rice for sahur and broke with sprite then proceeded to take eba and egusi.
That ofada rice no help at all,cos azumin ya gara ni sosai wallahi kamar na karya (dama an ce matafiyi zai iya shan azumi ko?).

We were working and along the way i saw some labourers doing heavy dako. I started wondering,if they were muslims are they obliged to fast because certainly they need twice or thrice as much energy to do such job kuma i wonder if they can do it while fasting.

@ Muda kaga yanzu confirmed azumi ashirin da tara za mu yi.

It is better to take the advantage given to you by Allah, First you get reward for t, second you get relieve, third you have your energy and fourth you get additional reward for rama azumin and a lots more! It also tells non-muslims that Islam is a simple religion and does not want its followers to suffer! Especially that you are at Calabar! It is sometimes by our practice that the non-muslim judge our religion. In fact, it is by practice that a lot of people accepted Islam, during the times of the Holy Prohet (SAW).

I believe or rather I think GGNK that when you get to yr destination and you are going to be in transit in that place for a maximum of three days, then coninue with qasr throu'out yr stay. If you are going to stay for more than three days, then some opinions say that you immediately revert to the required number of rakaas  for the whole of the stay, while some other opinions have it that in the first three days, qasr is allowed, but after that you continue as normal praying the required number of rakaas. If you are not certain as to the number of days that you will be staying at a place, when you reach it, then you continue with qasr.
Check out with the sheikhs though.

Goga? azumi a calabar? I know calabar to be serene and quiet. I will suggest that for sahur you should take a lot of plantain (dodo) with stew. As for continued Qasr praying, you can do it throughout your stay there, no matter the number of days and so long as your stay is recognized Islamically. I remember reading a Hadith on that and will post it when i found it.
Meanwhile, do not go near the creeks!

Aunty Husan has given you the gist. The bottom line is that if you are not sure of the number of day you are going to spend there, you can continue with the Qasr! When people go to Minna for Hajj, they continue to do Qasr untill the last day, irrespective of the number of days. If you calculate, you will find that one spends alomst five days(Maximum) at Minna. So, you can deduce from this. May Allah help us all, amen! Azumi bana san barka babu wahala, saboda a wajajenmu ba rana, ab zafi, sai ni'imar Allah (SWT). Mun gode Allah!

Nope our hours are different its from 4:03am to 8:21pm however the time is always changing as in
suhur time increases whilst iftar time decreses, so that means we will be able to break at 7:30pm
which will be our last fast on the 10th september and suhur will be end at 4:44am.
Time din naija doesnt change though...am i rite?
