Title: THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
Post by: HUSNAA on June 07, 2007, 01:49:04 PM
We have Kano online Diary on the General Board and we have How do you feel today on the Chitchat forum. I got to thinking how about a  thread called THOUGHT FOR THE DAY? In the topic, forumners are welcome to talk about any thoughts that they have had or are having that is philosophical and they feel can interest others and give them something to think about... Here goes

We are all aware that in the Qur'an, a day in the sight of Allah is equivalent to 50,000 yrs of the earth's yrs. But does it really ever sink into our psyche? Looking at the time scale, a crude analogy would be that the whole span of a single human being's life span is less than half an hr's picnic outdoors. As a saying of the Prophet goes: 'Life is but the blink of an eye; so spend it in grateful submission'. Before we came to this earth, each soul took a covenant with Allah that it would worship Allah and associate nothing with Allah. We are told of this covenant in the Qur'an although as earthly human beings, we do not remember it because it is part of our other life to come and we took the promise at the time of our creation. However, on the day we are ressurrected, it will be very evident and apparent to us. We will be asked how long we stayed in the world and the answer would be 'a day or half a day' as we see eternity stretch before us. It is quite possible also that we will not experience the worldly time dimension as we perceive it so that although we will stand for 50,000 yrs, it may not feel like that, or we might all feel differences in  dimensionless time depending on level of anticipation or apprehension or time may cease to exist as we know it, Allah A'alam.
At any rate, isnt it time we pondered on what is really important in our lives, like the purpose of our creation which is  only  to worship Allah SWT and subordinate all else?
We should be patient in every setback and ask Allah for His Blessings and hope for His Mercy everyday. Remember that the impossible will  (very shortly in heavenly reckoning) one day become possible if Allah Grants us His Mercy and we attain bliss.

Jazakillahu Khair Husnaa.

My thoughts
A mother from the day she conceives a baby is regarded sick till the day she weans the baby(or is it till she gives birth).
I came across a mother while coming back home. She had 2 children.
She held the bigger one's hand while the baby was on her back(goyo). The woman was very comfortable.
I thought hmm i don't think i can ever be that patient.Leda ma idn na rike ina ganin ta zame min kaya ballantana yara biyu.
That's how she'll go anywhere with those kids and still love them.
They'll worry her,pee on her etc but she'd still care.

I don't know if you'd understand me.

Mothers really really really deserve to be loved, respected and cared for.
To all the loving and caring mothers out there : MAY ALLAH BLESS YOU TILL ETERNITY

gnaka, absolutely true. we r the only ones I believe that can have that kind of patience.  and for that we should always appreciate our mothers, cherish them and love them like they did when were kids and still do, now that we've grown...so we should return that love.  And a person wud never fully understand this until he/she gets a child (especially the woman since she's the one that carried the child and gave birth to it) :)

Thanking Aunty Husnaa for putting up this
thread, most especially by starting your
first post from an angle of piety and ponderance.

My Thoughts:

I cam out this morning heading towards my office,
in between my office and home is about 4 kilometres.
While on my way, i came across about 8 beggars
who are either crippled (on wheel) or due to serious
old age at a stationed position.

All they beg each passing day from passerbyes is
Don Allah a bamu na abinci.

I THOUGHT, here I am doing well, paying thousands
of naira on luxury.
Am I better than them?
What effort am i making to save this situation?
INNA AKRAMAKUM INDALLAHI AT'KAKUM
THE BEST AMONG YOU IS HE WHO FEARS ALLAH MOST.

Wallahi Dan Borno, you have hit a raw nerve there!
Kasan wai ance according to Marx that 'religion is the opium of the masses'. When I look at that statement sai na ga yes it is very true even though it sounds blasphemous, because we only truly become humble when we are in dire consequence and then we think about Allah more often and supplicate Him and when He Has Granted our wishes, we go back to being our old heedless selves.
When we are well off we think less of the here after. When we are rich we think less of others. So I got to thinking that for a rich person to be more humble, let him look at all the bounties da Allah Ya bashi and think to himself that if Allah can provide me with such in this world, what kind of luxury Yayi wa wa'yanda suka bauta ma Sa tanadi in the next world then? That way you begin to look forward to the other world rather than be content with what is right in front of u.

Wow what a beautiful topic husnaa, Kudos again, u knw the rest!

My Thoughts was an inspiration from G-naka's sick mother thoughts, well mine is for the babies, just imagine when a baby is born, people are always happy and full of joy, the baby too is happy, u wiil see him/her sleeping peacefully, but u know whut my thoughts are? Ina jin mugun tausayin yaron, because the boy dont know the child dont know wut kinda world he has gotten him/herself into, the kind of hardship he/she will be putting up to, the kind of violence he will experience, so i pity every new born u know, its kinda sound weird but i do anytyme i hold an infants hand!

I feel the same way with kids. I look at them and wonder how their lives will turn out. I especially look at kids that are from non muslim backgrounds and I feel so sad for them, growing up not knowing islam and I used to wonder where they will end up eventually in the after life. Allah Ya shirye su gabadayan su Amin.
I dont know how many of you know the story of a black kid called Emmet Till. He died in 1945 or 6 or 7. cant remember. He was savagely murdered by two white adults one was in his late twenties and the other one was in his early thirties and Emmet was only 13 or 14. They went to his uncle's house one night and dragged him out of bed and took him to the barn of one of them, tied him up and clubbed him, gouged his eyes out, broke his nose mutilated his beautiful face until he was unrecognizable and then shot him in the head. The boy's crime? He whistled at the wife of one of them.
The tragedy of it was that he'd only gone to visit his mother's relatives, and he was her only child. The two men were acquitted of the crime by the local town jury. They died without ever seeing the inside of a prison for the murder they committed. However what Emmet's death did was to galvanize black ppl to the civil rights movement which started with Rosa Park's refusal to give up her seat to a white person on a bus and led to the famous bus boycott.
Sometimes I find myself praying for Emmet's salvation. I find myself hoping that he'd died before reaching the age of puberty so that he could benefit from not having his book of record keeping opened yet.
We mustnt pray for non muslims who have passed away, but I just cant help it in this boy's case.

I will begin with saying ma Kudos to Husna the initiator of this thread.
and to all who have contributed meaningful and touching 'thoughts'.

having so much love for kids i also have a lot of pity for them. especially what influences they will under go through in life. the must painful thing is that, when they are kids, they are sweet innocent and everything nice. but if they are not lucky and end up having badly influence. it will be very sad to remember that these criminals, addicts, cultist we see were once sweet little kids. Well, may Allah continue to guide us and the innocents kids to grow into useful and beneficial members of our societies.

My thought

Though a little away from what has been previously posted. it is some what more philosophical.
i normally have this voice that talks to me in my mind, people believe its the conscience. but those it remain the conscience when it gets so loud that i think it is someone talking to me or when it feeds me with lots of information i find use and some how complex ideas i never remember coming across.

my question is i have a lot of those musings from my conscience, is it common. i think i will very soon begin posting such thoughts. thank you!

Wonders never end in this world.
Two days ago, I saw a documentary on 'cryogenic' babies. That is babies whose fathers are unknown sperms deposited in banks. There was a lesbian couple who decided to have a child...So one of them went to a sperm bank and got inseminated. Later she gave birth to a boy. Then two or three yrs later on, they met a woman casually, who had also had a sperm bank baby. They got to sharing their experiences and they asked each other the label of the sperm donor and found that...

read on please from http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/17/60minutes/main1414965.shtml

I saw this on 60 mins. I am still numb from the emotions that went through me. I really feel sorry for the kids that are born this way. How will they turn out in the future? There was a woman in England who had the same thing and her child at about 6 yrs started asking questions about his dad. He wanted to know who he was bcos every day at sch, he sees dads collecting their kids from sch, and probably his neighbours are a mum and dad. So he kept asking his mom who his dad was, and she couldnt do a thing about it, because she doesnt event know one single paternal relative of the boy that she can present to the kid to give him a sense of worth and belonging!! I mean its not like she had an affair and she broke up with the boy's father, or the boy's father was dead or anything like that... the father was simply a single unknown sperm that even she doesnt know where it came from in terms of the surface of the earth, except from a laboratory.. how sick!

Poor kid! I couldnt get him off my mind for ages! I read that article about three yrs ago, and it still affects me when i think of that poor fatherless boy.

Husnaa, that's the difference between us with the westerners, they don't see this as anything other than a woman wanted a child and she just go to the bank (as they call it) and get a donor, the poor kids that are born this way are the unlucky one's. they have so many children born out of wedluck and the numbers are alarming, it's just history repeating it's self because the parent's didn't show their kids any better, and they too will start having their own kids like that. Allah ya sauwake.

Mufi, i dont like you saying that is the difference
between us with the westerners.  Except we take
a heed, this so called banking of sperm and what
ever will soon see a welcome hand from within
us (easterners ko?).

The lessons we should learn from what Aunty
Husnaa just narrated is that we should also
communicate to others and highlight the very
dangers in this type of bearing a child.

We pray to Almighty Allah, that our children yet
to come, let them have strong Iman not to indulge
in these type of criminal acts.

Have you gotten into my mind? ::) Weird really, cos I always have the same thought. I refrain from saying it out cos I don't know how ppl would take it? I attempted once and my aunt was like " ka daina irin wannan magana, ba kyau kamar kana kin abin da Allah ya nufa ne, etc" But I can't help feeling "tausayi" whenever I look at the peaceful, sleeping face of a new-born.

Dan-Borno, what i tried to explain was just the plain truth, and its left to us to show our children the right path, and what is right and what is wrong, because the world is so small right now because of technology, our kids are getting access to so many stuff out there that we don't keep track of it.
Information is knowledge, but not all of it.
i've been around these people for more than a decade, and that's all they know, but Masha-Allah they are educating themselves, and some of them when they convert to Islam they embrace the religion whole-heartedly. Allah ya taimakemu gaba daya. Amin.

Madam(e), we are advocating the same belief.

TODAYS THOUGHTS

It pierced into my mind, that a day will come
when I will die.  Hearing the cries and woes of
my family while trying to bath and cloth me for
the last time on this earth.

Laying helplessly, one person holding my arms
while the other washing my body - i cant help.
Before now I go to the bathroom myself, close
the door, turn the shower on, slide into into the
bath and wash and wash and wash until a whole
soap is nearly exhausted.

Today, I am no more, they washed me with an
ordinary soap with cold water.  They brushed my
tooths with a cloth, i am helpless.

I was wrapped in likkafani, i heard them saying
"ina turare ne"? "ina ne gabar" "malam bimillah
a yi mana salla"

I heard the imam saying Allahu Akbar, reciting
suratul fatiha, then another Allahu Akbar and
again and again praying for the Prophe, me
and the Muslim Umma.

"Ina akori kura" then I know, really, we are heading
to "makabir" everybody was quite and calm.

I was buried inside a room and parlour, but its
only a room.  Then they all disperse and left me
alone.

Alone! Alone! Alone! only my good works while
I am alive.

Kai, Dan-Borno is alive fa. i was just illustrating.
Lets do good work while we are still alive and
in the position to do it, before its too late.

Dan-Borno, ka sa jiki na yayi sanyi.

My thought:

We have this "Charity Fund" in the office. It's a voluntary, charitable fund where members are expected to donate some certain percentage of their income from time to time to the "Fund". We then look for and help people in dire need i.e those who couldn't pay their hospital bills, the orphanage etc. One day we got a call from a hospital about a poor cancer patient, who couldn't afford the money needed for surgery/medication. So we went to the hospital to see him. Coincidentally, that was the time we were so worried about a particular staff welfare issue that the management was dragging thier feet on. When the issue failed to get management approval, we all felt it was the end of the world. It was on this mood we went to see the patient. On getting to the ward, we were shocked on his and others conditions. For starters, the ward was smelly and dirty, while the patients were all lying on make-shift beds, with various ailments. It was a miracle I didn't throw up.

I then said to myself:  "Someone is here battling for his/her life. But I was so fortunate that my problem was "only" an improvement on my pay package :( Some people don't even the money to pay for their medical bills or even go to the hospitals, and many die bcos of that, while my organization takes care of my medicals."

Jama'a mu rika gode wa Allah, a duk halin da muka samu kanmu. A duk yadda kake, ka fi wani. Wani yana nan yana neman abin da zai ci da iyalinsa, ko kuma ma ta lafiyar sa yake. Allah Ya kara taimokon mu amin.

Wallahi u are right. Right now I feel as if no one has more problems than I in the world, yet they are somehow self imposed and at the same time the fruition or none fruition of what I have set out to do will only affect my self ego and how I esteem myself, or other ppl's expectations of me or my own view of their own expectations of me which maybe real or apparent. So when I see ppl on TV who have lost everything to earthquakes, tsunamis, like the disasters that happened btw 2004 and 2006 in various places and how hundreds of thousands were displaced, or the wars in Africa and how ppl are made destitute and homeless, I realize just how ungrateful I am being to Allah SWT, and I am dreading the day da Allah Will set a trial for me....

We have some very touching stories up here.
Elgazus your situation is not weird. I Know that most people sometimes have strange thoughts (most often very very blasphemous). Once at an Islamic lecture a question was asked by someone that he has some kind of weird thoughts that should he mention these thoughts it would (maybe) make him a non believer.
The Imam told him that many many people have such kind of thoughts and he has been asked so many times.Fortunately the Mallam told him to thank Allah, that it was a sign of Iman. That it was Satan that was trying to affect his Iman.
He advised anyone with such thoughts not to mention them.
Nevertheless, the du'a for anyone having doubtful thoughts about his Iman should recite the verse 'Huwal auwwalu wal akhiru waz dhakiru wal batin wa huwa ala kulli shai'in qadeer' from Suratul Hadid(Q57 V3)
Allah ya Jikan Sheikh Ja'afar.

My thoughts:
This emanated from reading Husna's post on the Black teenager.
In a Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A) he said the Prophet told him that Allah created  his Rahma and divided it into 100 parts. He took 99 parts and shared the remaining 1 part among human beings.Said that if bani Adam knew Allah's Rahma then no one would have lost hope of entering Jannah. Also if bani Adam knew the punishment available at Allah's hand then they would have run as far away as possible from such punishments.
Although this is not the direct translation of the Hadith but that is the Muhallush shahid. What it means.
Now here is my thought:
If this 1 part of rahma is shared among all of us.
Hardly would anyone want to see a person (Muslim or non Muslim) suffer any calamity like being burnt in fire. This i believe is out of our rahma(one divided by the whole people ever to exist).
If out of one part we cant allow a person to burn then what happens with someone that has the 99 remaining parts.
It is not Allah's will at all to burn people in Hell fire.
Allah is not a wicked being.
His rahma is too wide for one to loose hope.

Ya hayyu ya qayyum bi RAHMATIKA astagithu.

Dalilin wa 'yannan kalaman shine jiya ne da ga karfe 11 PM zuwa 2AM, na kalli two programs dealing with the same issue. One was a dramatization and the other was a real life happening documentary which followed a man as he was going through the odyssey of trying to locate his wife. What I am talking about is human trafficking.
This is the new or rather old menace in a new skin that is creating a nightmare for many women all over the world. Human trafficking of children goes on in Africa where kids are taken from their homes at a tender age and sold into domestic slavery. Elsewhere in the world, the human trafficking is of girls sold into sex slavery. That was the type I watched last night. To say I was upset is an understatement.
The dramatization showed the nitty gritty no holds barred way that criminal gangs trap innocent girls into this  hell. As it was a serialized program, I have so far seen the first installment. It follows three female characters who were each abducted in a different way by the same network of criminals operating in different countries and different continents. One woman was lured to Austria by her new boyfriend anad there he sold her immediately. The other was a 15 or 16 yr old girl who was chosen  by a 'modelling agency' which happened to be the traffickers posing as such. The other the saddest, was a 12 or 11 yr old girl who was forcefully abducted in the Philipphines.

The documentary couldnt show the nitty gritty of course, but the fact that it brings home the reality of it, since it was not fiction created a more powerful and unpleasant sensation with a lasting impact. It is the tale of a couple from the Ukraine or one of these east european countries, where the standard of living was very low and ppl eked out a hard life. The wife was a very beautiful 23 yr old girl, just married a yr earlier to the husband. She has a five yr old son and was 4 months gone with a second on the way. Her mother owns a shop or some such thing and she decided to go to Turkey to buy some commodities for the mother. Her husband has a male friend. When this male friend heard that she was going to Turkey, he offered to escort her there because he had some business to transact as he told them. Thus unsuspectingly, she goes to Turkey with him and when they got there, he sold her. Then he became guilt ridden after he'd heard that she'd been sold to a most notorious pimp. He phoned the husband and informed him that he'd sold his wife. Devastated, the husband somehow got a phone call from the wife who told him the situation she was in and begged him to rescue her. So the husband went on a wild goose chase to Turkey. He posed as one of the middlemen in the trafficking ring that sold the wife, in order to gain the trust of the pimp and also access to his wife. He set up a meeting but when the pimp showed up, the wife was not in tow. At anyrate, something went wrong and his cover was nearly blown. From then on he couldnt get any closer to his wife, although he tried as hard as he could to convince  her jailers that  he was only trying to protect their joint interests as the girl could be a lead to them since her case was being thoroughly investigated. His greatest fear was that if she became too much of a threat to them, they could kill her or deport her to another country and any chance of ever seeing her again would be lost forever and she would be condemned to a life of sexual slavery until the pimps got tired of her. In desperation, he began to haunt the streets at night in the hope that he might see her soliciting. Unfortunately, girls that were kidnapped and forced into prostitution are always kept under lock and key and closely monitored so there was no way that she would be out on the streets.
Eventually he gave up and went back to his country. Da yake Allah Mai Jin Kan bawansa ne, his persistence had paid off and the pimps had somehow thought to err on the side of caution and  had let the girl go. She made her way back home where he found her when he reached it. To tasu kenan.
His friend was prosecuted for trafficking. The wife agreed to testify in court against him. On the day of the hearing, the husband and wife went to court, but were barred from entering. The camera crew filming this documentary were allowed inside the courtroom however and that was how they came to know what traspired at the court. What happened inside was that a judge made an appearance at his desk moments after the defendant  was brought into the courtroom by two jailers. He had put up his jacket to hide his face. There was a cage and he was bundled into it, and the door shut. Then the judge delivered his sentence/ verdict what ever. In a case of human trafficking, criminals are given a maximum of 15 yrs in jail. Standing at his desk the judge passed a sentence of five yrs on the man and then followed up with a clause that  under article so and so section so and so, the sentence had been commuted to a five yr probation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. After that, the judge walked out of the court room. The cage door was opened and the guy..........
.................WALKED AWAY A FREE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! I couldnt believe it!! It was so surreal! This is not I repeat NOT a movie, but a real life event that happened and was recorded in real time as it happened!!
The  husband and his wife meantime were standing outside waiting to hear the verdict. When they heard that he'd been released on probation, the husband said that this was sending a message to the trafficking world that you could do it get caught and get away with it. Afterward when he was interviewed, the convicted trafficker smugly said to the man interviewing him that he guessed that he'd hired a good lawyer  and that the judge was a good man to have given him a light sentence.
Allah Ya Kyauta.  The reason why I say that we should Praise Allah that we are born muslims and live in a muslim community is because most of these countries where the gangs 'recruit' the girls are dirt poor countries. Our countries are just as much affected by poverty, yet these tragedies hardly occur on such an organized scale. I am not saying that there is no prostitution in our societies, what I am saying is that we dont have organized crime that deals in sex slavery. I believe this is so, because the religion of Islam has come down very heavily on adultery prostitution etc, imposing such devastating penalties on the perpetrators even though it also gives stringent clauses for the use of the punishments. All in all we as muslims have been psyched to regard sexual misdemeanours as the worst of any of the crimes that one can indulge in, so that it will be a pretty rare day the day we have criminals selling girls into the sex industry on a massive scale as is happening now in Europe. (Its been estimated that around 500,000 girls are trafficked  every yr!)

Well anyway there is so much to say on this topic but i cant articulate my thoughts very well and I have other  things to do so I will stop here. Contributions on the subject highly sought

About three to four hrs ago, I was on a ramadhan high. I thought of all sorts of wonderful and comforting things. I wanted to log on and write them out while the feeling lasted. Unfortunately,  I had other considerations. Now I am a bit free, but the high has gone. So I cant hyperbolize,  ;D (which is just as well.... keep a steady head.. thats the better).
I guess this is not a piece of advice as much as a thought: How many of us have ever despaired? Despaired of getting something that we have really really put our hearts into? Despaired because we couldnt get what we wanted and had that feeling of finality that it is forever out of our reach? Like a substitute just isnt good enough? I bet most of us have. I believe it is because in some things in life, we limit ourselves and what understanding we have, to this present life. We dont think beyond the possibility that what ever we want and we cant have, it doesnt mean that we are forever doomed not to have it and especially when it is a near impossible thing to have. If we cant have it in this world, we can certainly have it in the next world, providing that we enter Aljannatul Firdaus. The point is to REALLY BELIEVE that it will happen. The comfort to be derived from this is that when we do acquire what ever it is, it is everlasting and we will never get tired of it and it will always be a source of joy and happiness unlike its earthly counterpart, no sooner acquired no sooner bored with it.
If we dont despair but believe that in sha Allah one day a thing will be ours, it boosts our faith because one KNOWS for a certainty that the event will happen even though there will be calamity before the eventuality occurs. Thus you begin to feel such gratitude towards Allah because u begin to feel that HE IS not denying you anything in reality, just keeping what ever it is you wish for, at bay, that is all. Then you begin to try and think of ways of improving yourself so that the eventuality becomes favorable to you, i.e you dont end up in hell after all. So in that way, you begin to improve yr self as a muslim and with time, your iman increases to the level that all you want to do is please Allah regardless of where HE will put you or what your outcome in the afterlife is going to be.
So lets stop despairing. Mu fa musulmi 'yan gatan Allah ne truly speaking.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next  few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temp er at all. He told his father about it and the  father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out.
But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Very true GGNK. i remember when i was a wee bonny lass ( ;D ;D ;D)  my headmaster  gave a lecture at assembly and he was talking about that saying 'sticks and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me' and I remember his vehemence when he said

"BY GOD there is no truth in that".
I havent been able to forget it.
When u beat a person, the pain goes away, maybe there is a physical scar, but even the memory it evokes by looking at it is sometimes of a dispassionate nature. However, when someone tells u a few choice words.....ts.. ts ts ts, it takes forever to forget the hurt.

Somethings are left tsakanin mutum da Allah  kawai and Allah  will either judge mutum accordingly, or Ya Yafe masa and whatever it is,  will remain a secret,  har abada known only  to Allah and the perpetrator .

Muhsin, shawara ta gari.
Do not under any circumstances choose a topic for yr brother. That is a bad way to go about it. Help him to choose but dont choose for him. If you choose for him, you will end up doing the project for him, becos u will be the one who knows why you chose it for him, cos he has to have a plausible reason for why he chose the topic and he will turn to u to provide it since u chose it. Secondly, he is unlikely to have a full understanding of it what ever it is if u choose it, and the end result is that be prepared to write everything except yr name on the project.
Now if u dont want to do that, ask him what areas/ discipline within his program interests him. Now ask him why they interest him. If he doesnt have an interest, put yr heads together and think up topics or situations not only yr ideas but his as well. if u cant do that, explore past theses and see if there is something which interests him and he wants to pursue it,  and I dont mean go and plagiarize someone's work, but read someone's work or several ppl's works and see if u agree with their arguments or you dont. If u dont agree with someone's argument, see if there is a way to improve the argument or make a better case. Then take that up as the project. If its something that needs further review as a suggestion by author, then ur brother can take that up and see how he can improve on a previous work. But what ever u do, dont get him a topic to work on. That would be disastrous.
