Myself, thank u for starting a wonderful thread/topic.
Here is my favorite piece of advice!!

"Don't look back at the furrow you've plowed."

Whenever I start to question my actions or obsess about what I could have done, I think of those words. Basically what i'm trying to say is that you'll never get ahead in the future if you're focusing on the past.

Don't we have some threads for this sort of discussion? I mean, Thought For the Day, Beautiful Quotes etc. Anyway, here goes,

"An expectation unarticulated, is failure guaranteed"!: Meaning, plan, plan and plan. It's not enough to just have a dream. You MUST work hard toward achieving the dream

There is a difference between them and this thread. Beautiful quotes can be anything funny sayings wise sayings nonsense sayings anything that catches one's fancy that was uttered by someone. Thoughts for the day is slightly like this, but more profound. You try to articulate yr feelings based on something that u have experienced or observed and it has made a profound impact on you. This one you give sage advices that are in the form of a well known phrase ko?

LA TAHZAN - maintain the spirit of happiness.
Why worry yourself, while you know, that
you are a mortal - sooner or later.
Dont worry - be happy always.

Always remember you are fasting; lower your gaze from half-naked dress ladies of the school, streets and everywhere else. Not doing so will certainly weaken the value of it.

ASSETS SUBJECT TO ZAKAT AND THEIR CALCULATION
METHOD

There are principally 5 categories of assets which are subject to
Zakat, they are as follows;
1) Gold & Silver
2) Cash or equivalent Investments (including stocks, shares etc)
3) Stock in trade (including property and pensions)
4) Livestock
5) Agricultural Output

General Rules on Assets
Personal Use - Those assets owned for personal use as well as
assets which form part of an individual's basic necessities are not
subject to Zakat. Even precious metals such as platinum are exempt
from Zakat if they are for personal use. An exception to the above
rule is Gold and Silver which are fully subject to Zakat even when
owned solely for personal use.

Trading Assets - All assets purchased for the explicit purpose of
resale are liable for Zakah. Assets purchased with the express
intention of generating a rental / investment return are not
themselves liable to Zakah.
Zakah is always paid on the balance of assets owned on the
Zakatable date, not on luctuating amounts during the year or even
an average amount. Zakah is always paid on the balance of assets
owned on the Zakatable date, not on fluctuating amounts during the
year or even an average amount.
1) Gold & Silver – Gold and Silver are subject to Zakat regardless of
whether they are owned for personal use or otherwise. Gold and
Silver are also always liable to Zakat irrespective of the asset type
(gold bar, jewellery, ingot, coin etc.)

Allah saka. Amma I'm a little confused by the above. I mean, where does investments such as stock fell? Most times shares/stocks are bought not for resale, but for the returns on the investments (sometimes called rental returns in finance/econs).

As regards gold/silver, any supporting source (hadith, Qur'an) for that injunction?

 "Assets purchased with the express

themselves liable to Zakah". Then what about the return on the investment? isnt that subject to zakka then? Isnt the generated rent itself taxable as zakkah?

  Zakat on Personal Jewelry

Bismillahir rHrH,
Assalamu alaikumu wRwB,
HADITH-12 CLASS-Fiqh
TEXT:
>From Ummu salamah RA,who used to wear a bright [jewelry] made of gold.
She said,Oh Messenger of Allah,Is it[the jewelry] a treasure?He-SAW
replied,If you give out its Zakat, then it is not a treasure...Abu Dawud,
Daraqutniy.

Allah SWT says...'And there are those who hoard gold and silver and
spend it not in the way of Allah:announce unto them a most grievous
chastisement....on the day when it will be heated in the fire of hell,
and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks and their
backs"This is the[treasure]which you hoarded for yourselves, taste ye
then, the[treasure]ye hoarded"'9:34,35.In the textual hadith above
Ummu salamah RA clarified on whether personal jewelry is similar to
treasure as used in the verse above.Zakat on it is implied by the
prophet,in his reply,to be necessary.

In another narration Amr Ibn Shuaibu reported,'That a woman with her
daughter, the latter wearing two gold bracelets in her hand, came to the
prophet SAW.He said,Do you pay zakat on them.She said,No.He said,Do you
want Allah to make you wear bracelets of fire on the day of judgement?
She then cast them away'.The hadith has been brought in other narrations
with slight variations.
In a similar theme A,ishah RA,herself, reported that she entered upon the
messenger of Allah SAW who saw in her hands silver earrings and he asked
her about them and she replied;'I made them to beautify myself for you,
Oh Messenger of Allah.'He said,Did you pay Zakat on them'and she replied
No,then He said'Their punishment in hell fire is enough for you'.
Based on the foregoing some ulama-Abu Hanifa,Ibn hazm and Hadawiyah sect
etc-opined that Zakat is necessary on personal jewelry used for
adornment. They hold that its nisab should be as for gold/silver,as
stated above.Yet others agree with the above, but hold that Zakat should
be given once only,rather annually.

The prophet SAW is reported to have cautioned a sahabi who had worn a
gold ring;He said,'How do I see you with the adornment of ahl jannah
before you enter it..'.Islam generally abhors gold adornment for men ie
rings, watches, jewelry etc.Scholars have opined that whenever men use
gold jewelry,or both men and women use forbidden items like gold or
silver utencils[plates,spoons etc];Zakat should mandatorily be paid,like
the case of gold/silver used for business or held as stock.
Allah SWT knows best.Maasalam,AGH.

while you are driving your car, just help him
a little and shove him with your bumber, take
him to the clinic and pay the bill  - shegu marasa

Wallahi DB, you have scratch where it is itching everyone. These idiots have taken over our main roads and are making a mince meat of innocent riders! I will not hesitate to urge Government to ban the use of motorcycles for commercial purpose.

Gaskiya these okada people are really such a nuisance now.

Irin rashin lafiya dake affecting mutane from the poor quality of air is staggering. Allah ya taimaka amin.

dont do to others what you wouldnt want others do to you

THe achaba problem is a growing one. Air/noise pollution, frustration and head aches. I dont blame the riders though, our society is a poor one and transportation is necessary. The government has done too little to provide adequate and affordable transportation, to promote the living condition and health of its citizens. Take abj 4 example, the ban on achaba and bringing in busses did clean up the city, but people are suffering still, the cabs are expensive, the busses dont go everywhere and one'll have to wait since the busses are still short, workers stay or walk on the road till 10p.m tryina getting home.

Heal the world

Ban the mixing of petrol and engine oil as the main fuel used by yan acaba in their babura. That is the main culprit da ya ke sa hayaki yana turnike garin. Kuma they should be sensitized on revviing the motor cycle engines less when they are stationary. That should help in stemming the unnecessary spurts of poisonous smoke.

Ga irin yan mutocin nan adaidaita sahhu, why not get enough of them? instead of
the govt giving away babura, why not them? Inna ganin zasufi dadin sha'ani.

The problem is that almost all the okadas use small two stroke engines which require a mix of oil and petrol for lubrication because there is no oil reservoir or crankcase. They have been banned in most developed countries and replaced by four stroke or new generation two strokes which dont require the "mix" amma mu ba ruwan mu da environment so anything goes.

Some years ago when i was in Lagos there was a crackdown on smoking two stroke mopeds in South korea and thousands were seized from the streets untill they became a problem to dispose. An enterprising Ibo chap offered to dispose of them for a fee and promptly began dismantling them and shippin to Nigeria  unchallenged, where  they were reassembled in his warehouse at Ebutte Metta and sold for between 15 to 17 thousand naira. I

m not kidding, this guy got paid to remove the bikes from the govt pounds over there and he shipped them to Naija and sold them for almost pure profit.

Ive noticed that In some places in Kano there is a permanent blue haze in the air during rush hour and i wonder what our lungs must look like by now.

Like him or Hate him I still pray for el rufai anytime im in abuja and notice the lack of screaming motorcycles and attendant smoke screen at every junction, plus there are no more okada wards designated to cater for their victims in FCT hospitals.

I totally agree with what u said Kitkat. The 'yan achaba, mutuwa dole and/or crushers as their name implies are just a manace and disaster to our environmental savvy. There is no law guiding their mode of operation in Naija. These pppl are seriously causing alot of havoc to the society. I was at Katsina sometime this year and unfortunately enough we hit one of them. We hit him bcos of a speed bumps that caught us unawares. We then took him to hospital for treatment. It was there that I realised almost every 5 minutes u would c an accident patient brought into that Hospital. And believe you me, its all these Achaba ppple. I there4 suport Mallam Nasir el-Rufa'i for banning them from the Abuja roads. How do you c Abuja now? Marvellous I suppose. Brother, I am with u wholeheartedly.

Dumping ground! and we say we have a Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

I doubt if there is a way to ban the mixing of petrol and engine oil.
@myself,even the adaidaita sahu tricycles emit the blue hazardous smoke.
In india where they are manufactured they use LPG(liquefied petroleum gas) for their combustion.Even the motorbike uses this LPG which has at least safer carbon II oxide emmission.

The best way is to ban the importationof these 2 stroke mix engines and allow only the newer ones kitkat mentioned.

Amma i'm afraid, like in Kano where the Governor believes dashing out jincheng's is serious human development, this is not easily achievable.

Piece of advise:
Get a mask.

Da gaskiyar ka fa GGNK. Get a mask. when ppl start wearing masks and others begin to observe how weird the whole set up is, then ppl would sit up and take notice of what is happening. There must be some research done on the this smog level.

Another possible way out of the acaba chicanery, is for government to empower the Police to collect N1000:00 levy from any commercial m/cycle rider who commits a road traffic!
Failure to pay, the m/cycle will be impounded. Do this for just a month and you will notice changes and the citizens will be saved from the dangers associated with riding achaba. ;D

True MYSELF.
What i can never understand and agree with is that Hausa saying that 'gabar ka ba ta rubewa kayanke.. That is the greatest untruth I have heard. In ba ka yanke ba, ai sai gangrene. Daga gangrene kuma sai mutuwa. Gabar mutum na rubewa, kuku go and get it cut off. In terms of humans, therefore its a wrong analogy. Like u said, love yr own regardless; but make the effort to gyara kurakuran yr own din regardless, that is the best form of loving and showing the love.

Husna, correct there. Nima kam wallahi nafi son a dinga taking firebrigade approach in solving matsalolin kasannan. Maganan naka nakane, shima yananan, amma dai what are you doing to correct him, shine abin dubawa. The people that buy these motorcycles and give the kids to do achaba, are doing it just for the sake of the little stipends it brings to the daily, unmindful of how the kids do it, and the resultant consequences. The issue of acaba is beyond limits now everywhere. Modalities should be worked out for them so that they become more arganized and law abiding.
