FULANI MAIDEN
Hey beautiful Fulani maiden,
With your face so full of smiles.
Rare specie of the worlds Eden,
You have come on foot from miles.
I wish to look into your calabash,
I would love to see your stuff,
You refuse and make a dash.
My request is just a bluff!
I admire all cattle rearers,
But I?m just a country man.
I am sure one of your admirers,
Oh sleek Fulani woman!
You wear colours like a rainbow,
Your beads are good for your braids;
Your scarf you tie like a big bow,
You remind me of a bride.
I watch you sell your sweet milk,
And sell your cream and butter,
I see you buy some powdered milk,
You think it did not matter.
Why sell your milk of nature,
Exchanged for some foreign mixture?
You return to your cattle and pasture,
To drink not milk but mixture!
I must say this is just as sweet as ur name 8) . kipirup gurl!!

Im not very poetic so cant figure out if all this talk of peekin into d calabash n drowing in her milk and honey(fulani get honey ne?) is figurative or otherwise...
I like alot though.

Can i use this...i know a fulani girl whud love it ...and id love to peek into her calabash and have some milk myself.....LOL

Zizo, are you not mixing this poem, 'Fulani Maiden' with 'The Call of the Fulani Maid?' I don't see any line here about 'drowning in her milk or honey!'
I overlooked it the first time, having read it now for the first time; by God I haven't read anything here for a long time that made me smile again, and again and yet again. And again some more every time I remember it. Its a rare beauty in Africa. I love it

Same here. Only I have read it many times, yet I have only really read the poem now and I can see why everyone's going gaga over it. It really is sweet and meaningful especially that part about my request is just a bluff! I never could put that line in its correct context. Now I've understood it.
