Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is poetry? In JSS 1, we had this book of poems with one that really stuck to my head. The poem is titled MY MOTHER. Anyone who passed FGC Kano must have read these poems.
I am sorry to say that after proceeding to further classes my interest waned and the school also did not emphasize it as it did in JS 1.
My question is, what is POETRY?

Alh Aminu, you are not wrong by asking this question 'what is poetry'. But before i say anything i will like to ask you this questions.
have you ever been passionate about anything and asked your self, why?
have you ever been excited that you just have to say something?
Have your ever been amazed and dont now the reason why?
Have you ever been hurt and thought you do not deserve it?
Have you ever loved that you culdnt control your self?
If you can answer in the affirmative any of the above question, think of your experience and put it in writing. THIS iS POETRY. Thank you
For me poetry is the release of powerful feelings, convictions and opinions that reach out to affect the reader, positively or negatively. Someone said that poets are the true legislators of the world. I agree, poetry breaks new grounds and charts courses/directions!
