The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its determination to continue to support all efforts towards the promotion of computer education and all other branches of learning in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, made the plan known while speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day computer training programme for local government personnel in the state at the weekend.

Dingyadi observed that computer literacy in modern times was a rule rather than exception in a number of ways adding that works and services in factories, industries, schools, hospitals, offices and home could only be carried out effectively through computer.

Noting the importance of computer education for staff in public service, the SSG acknowledged that computer knowledge had become indispensable in advancing human civilisation.

Dingyadi, who recalled that years back people had expressed fears that the use of computer would displace them from jobs, said the same people now understood that learning at least to know how to operate the machine was a challenge that must be faced by workers at all levels.

He commended the efforts of the organisers of the training programme, (Jedo Computer Institute and Educational Services) adding that the institute, as an indigenous organisation deserved to be commended for considering its far-reaching impact on the development of the state.

The SSG acknowledged the decision of the proprietor of the institute to train 23 indigenes on computer education through the state education development fund and called on other similar organisations to emulate the good gesture.

The proprietor of the institute, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, said the state local government service commission, in conjunction with his institute, decided to organise the programme in view of the important role of computer in the general development of the society.

In another development, relief materials worth half a million naira, were distributed, over the weekend, to people at Kalambaina rehabilitation centre, by a Sokoto based non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as Aliyu Magatakarda Foundation.
