Assalamu alaikum,
The polyethylene bags are dangerously polluting our cities......there seems to be no solution to this menace. You are also concerned, ko?

Well the sanitations @ the end of the month are a step in the right direction -but with the number of people in our cities like Kano it doesn't seem to be enough. Maybe if they are conducted on a weekly basis that could help reduce the number of bags one sees on the streets and in sewers. Or if the polythylene manufacturers can come up with a programme where they can offer a small reward for people to return the old or used bags instead of just throwing them away-that way every1 benefits- the people get a reward & a motivater to keep the streets clean and the manufacturers can recycle the bags.

I guess many people have talked about the solution ie better sanitary pocedures but ai duk munsan yan cikin gari dont give a tooot about disposing this stuff properly. And  I dont blame them.
this polythene bags are a menace but the things is they are freaking cheap. So, all substitutes introduced will be rejected by poor people simply because   it means they will be spending more for less.  Here in the US, they are increasingly using degradable materials and reusable items, such as the paper container in place of leda.
lastly, does anyone know if the fumes given off, when leda is burned, is poisonous or toxic? asking because we might consider burning them up a splution.

~Salaam*~

u know polyethylene is a sort of hydrocarbon and buring it might lead to

further air pollution. I think da only way we can solve this very serious issue is

to stop producing it in general, then people would be forced to find other

alternatives. Isn't it better for us to use a stong bag made of cloth that

would last for long than 2 be buying these poly-bags everytime?
