My grandparents owned a club during the late 1970s to early 1980s. I think it was called the "Flying Club". They were called David and Avril Hill. Their son David Andrew Hill met my mother Lynda and married her in Nigeria. I was born in Kano in 1984 in the Maimuna Allah Ya Raya Hospital. I do not remember any thing about Nigeria as we moved when I was 6 months old. If anybody could give me any ifo on any of the above it I would be most grateful.

Layla, I know Maimuna Allah ya raya, Flying Club and St. Louis church in Kano. It will be difficult to tell you everything about Nigeria or Kano but as to the Hospital you were born is located on New Road, Sabon Gari, Kano, I used to attend the hospital up to 1991 and St. Louis Church is near the secondary School in Bompai. It is a lovely town, Kano you can read about it on this site and ask the administrator iof this site for more information. I wish may be you visit one day and make sure is around the Muslim Eid Festival so as to witness the "Sallah Durbar" a very colorfull celebration that's unique to Kano. Fellow Citizen Nigeria is a beautiful country, just check it out yourself.
Layla, seeing is believing am sure you will enjoy the living day of stays in Nigeria ;)
The name of the proprietor of Maimuna Allah Ya Raya is Ali Abdallah. I believe he died a few years ago, or maybe it was his wife I cannot remember. The hospital was very good during its heyday.
He died, eya? He used to have a mercedes convertible and very liberal. He's Hajiya Naja'atu Mohammed's dad.
Ummul
you were right the proprietor is Alh. Ali Abdullah and he name the hospital after his mother "Maimuna".
hi i was also born in maimuna allahyara hosp. r u sure that guy is dead? coz i think i saw him last summer but maybe not. anyhow layla u will enjoy nijja its really nice and the ppl r also kool kano is a nice place so u ill definately hav fun but u hav to go wit someone that knws the place to take u places. and my dad use to be member of the flyin club as well. ciao
Well I am sure one of them's dead either he or his wife. I have forgotten who between the two of them. But I think it is him and it was a few years ago. But you could be right, he might still be alive, although you don't sound so sure yourself.
Better stop talking about ppl's parents like this. It's not proper or nice.
8)Hi
Layla's grandad here. Hope Layla makes it to Kano sometime (after she competes her studies, that is). Hope I get back sometime also. Used to be teacher then Vice Principal at WTC, Kano then inspector at KERC near Gwale before running the Flying Club. Ran the Rugby Club and the Kano Racecourse as well. Must have had a lot of energy in those days.
I'd like to hear how some of my old friends or ex-pupils are getting on. Anybody there?
Dave Hill
Wow
Its nice to here someone born in Maimuna Allah ya raya hospital. I was born there also but due to time my bro/sis are trasing me because of this. I knew that it used to be good ;D ;D and hey I like that name cos My sister, mother, great grandmother and niece are all Maimunas. ;)
Kano is a nice place but to enjoy it you really need someone who knows the place and the ways about if not you won't like it. All I can say is don't forget to go to See Sweet. Lol

Hi. Thanks for all the feedback Ive recieved. Havent been on for a while too busy studying (ha-ha!) and freezing to death in Bonnie Scotland!! It would be cool to come over, but as my Granddad says not till Ive finished my studies, which feels like forever! Hoping to go travelling after Uni. What is Nigeria like really? All my friends think its mud huts and all that tried explaining to them but they dont get it!! Makes me sad that I dont even know the place where I was born. :(
Layla
NiJa is a lil bit of all. Its got everything u want...and dont want. Believe me, its the life in a summarised point. Your friends are right, there are huts here at one end, and skyscrapers at the other end, mountains at one end, and slums at the other, Naija is the best of both worlds...a paradise for some and a hell for others. When u arrive here, do utilise it, make it good for u, and it`ll be best. make it bad... I'm sorry.
:D :D hey layla me too i was born in maimuna allah raya and in same yr with yu 1984 so we where born same yr in same hospital oh that really nice .......... but wot month where yu born coz me it august so let see maybe we are twins who knows ;) ;) ;) nway nijja is a great place to be... tho i was born in kano i dont know much about it too i was just born there but never lived there just for hols. me i think gaskiya i shud go see that hospital if it still exist.
Hey baby gal. Aah, you just a little bit older than me :D. I was born in October the 15th to be exact. It would have been really weird if we were born in same month. Where do you live anyway? Are you still studying?
