Title: ALHAJI ALI KWARA AND THE CHALLENGES OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE
Post by: Dan-Borno on October 17, 2007, 04:44:09 PM
Hunter arrests 10 suspected robbers      17/10/2007

Arenowned hunter, Alhaji Ali Kwara, has arrested 10 suspected armed robbers, who have been terrorising people in Bauchi and neighbouring North-east states.

Kwara, who often assists the police in the arrest of bandits, was invited by Governor Isa Yuguda to save the situation, which was getting out of hand.

Kwara said at the Government House, Bauchi, that he had rid all parts of the State of robbers, except Ganjuwa local government area that did not co-operate with him.

He promised to reveal the identity of a personal assistant to the governor, who allegedly connived with robbers and secured their release after arrest.

The suspects confessed to a number of robberies around Adamawa,Taraba, Yobe, Bauchi and other states in the region.

They said they paid ransoms of between N20,000 and N50,000 with kola-nuts to some 'ardo' (Fulani rulers), who incorporated them into a ``vigilance group'', while still robbing.

Yuguda reiterated his administration's commitment to rid the state of criminals and urged the people to assist the government to achieve the goal.

During the occasion, witnessed by senior government officials and traditional rulers, many recovered guns and munitions were displayed.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The name of Ali Kwara is now a household name in the
north-eastern part of Nigeria.  He is residing in Azare,
Bauchi State.  He was into the business of hide & skin
before he turned a hunter and later hunted for the under
world boyz.

An unauthorised version says that he opt for getting at
armed robbers when his son was brutally murdered by
a gang of thieves while travelling.  So the brave man
promised to unleash harvoc on any armed robber, so
he droped his hide and skin business for hunting for
thieves.

Over the years, north east, especially states of Bauchi,
Yobe, Borno and Adamawa have greatly benefitted from
this man's hunt for the criminals.  However, he stated
that he has not been adequately supported by the State
Governments, as some times he has to follow-up for his
allowances before he was given, and on several occasion
he gave up his allowances because of the long bureaucracy.

His mode of operation is quite different with the orthodox
police, while the later only act on complain, the former use
to patrol in dangerous hideout fishing them life, and kill them
after confession in public.  Infact, even old criminal barons
hiding in villages where not left alone, because, as he said,
they aid the young criminals.

You will not appreciate the activities of Ali Kwara except those
from the prone areas (north east) where within villages in a
broadday light, you will be robbed for 2 to 3 hours.  I can remember
what happened to us on my way from Biu to Maiduguri, immediately
after Damboa LG we were attacked by heavily armed bandits,
the driver manuevered to turn the vehicle back to the nearest
village where we hurriedly reported the case to the nearest
police station.  To our greatest surprise, the officer in charge of the
Police Station told us that he is alone and there is no weapon, and
even if there is no weapon, he said he is not going to risk his life
for nothing.  So the best option is for us to sit down here quitely
until the operation is over then when the road is clear we can carry
on with our journey - cikenan (inji inyamuri).

Try the road between Potiskum and Damaturu and also Damaturu
- Maiduguri, so also Biu - Damboa, Darazo to Potiskum, Maiduguri
to Gamborun Ngala, Biu - Yola, Maiduguri to Gwoza, Maiduguri to
Gubio/Magumeri/Mobbar/Monguno to mention just a few i can remember
are all hot spots for arm robbers.

The most unfortunate thing is you still meet the High Way Patrol
Team busy extorting money from motorist plying these roads with
guns in their hands, in some places, it is even ajoint patrol with
Army, yet the problem keeps on multiplying on daily basis.

So, Ali Kwara has brought a succour to most part of these prone areas
with only 2 pick-up van and about 12 or 10 members with ordinary
gun powder gun - yet they recorded a remarkable success.

My question goes this way:

Is the Nigerian Police and army not bold enough to face the armed
robbers or are they shot of skills and experience to fight the armed
robbers?

Is the Nigerian Police and Armey patrolling these roads know or are
coniving with these armed robbers in perpetrating this evil act?

Why is it that if armed robbers where caught in the act by the Nigerian
Police were latter released on bail and gradually the cases dies a natural
death, is it the weaknesses of our law or the judicial system?

Why is it that the State Governments can not guarantee safety on our
roads while billions of naira is readily available for that purposes?

Is Ali Kwara an agency of the Government providing security on consultancy
basis?  If yes, is it possible for Nigeria to adopt a state police to curtail
the cases of armed banditry?

Cheers.

Malam Dan-Barno, thumb up for taking your valued time to write this lengthy thread. Its very fascinating, very topical and well expressive with familiar words even to us average readers.

However, all the answers to your question are known even to a streetwalker in Nigeria who is not following  happenings in any media. The answers, to use one expression, are right under your nose--very well known. Sai dai kawai addu'a.

The answers;
1- YES
2- Don't really get the question
3- Yes, it is the weakness of both and even some other sectors in addition.
4- Its the need of their people that matters to them rather their families and personal interest.
5- Yes, but state police cannot be applied in Nigerian context due to our being multi everything country, i.e religion, tribe, culture, etc.

Sai anjima.

Ni yadda naji ma ance, ai su police men din ne suke ajiye kayan sarkin nasu su je suyi fashin kana su dawo su maida kayan sarkin. It all sounds very plausible, tunda police din are reluctant to pursue the matter in anyi rahoto, kuma with all their arsenal and might of men, a few men like Ali Kwara record more successes than they. Saboda haka a kwai kamshin gsakyia a accusations din police sometimes being  the armed robbers themselves.

That is Nigeria for all of us! Now the most interesting part of it all is that minister of fct, dr.modibbo has employed ali kwara as a security adviser for the fct! The man is doing a very good job to the people of this country, especially in the north. With his services now only confined to the fct, it means the merciless robbers can comfortably return to business and continue to unleash terror on the people. It would have been better if the minister appoints him as a security consultant, which will be part time, so that he can continue the good job he was rendering to humanity. :'(

Congratulations Ali Kwara, however, this appointment will
be at the detriment of the north east.  Read this.

Two incidents happened in the north-eastern part of this
country and Maiduguri in particular even though they are
still under investigation.

The first one, is a huge success story, as every police
officer in Maiduguri will joyously narrate the incidence.

What happened started all the way from Yola, were armed
robbers with sophisticated weapons raided about three banks
(so many version of the story has been narrated) and
carted away with naira amounting to millions and millions.

Apart from the money they have taken, so many police
officers who are guarding the various banks were either
killed, sustain grievous injury or assaulted.

The left Yola and head towards Maiduguri via Mubi and
Biu and each time a police check point tries to stop them
they immediately sporadically opened fire not minding
any consequences.

They successfully head towards Maiduguri, when with the
help of communication, the Police in Maiduguri are readily
waiting for them, as it is assumed that once they were
allowed into Maiduguri, that means they are gone forever.

The last check point to Maiduguri was busy as travellers
were asked to park so that all cars are checked thoroughly.
On sighting the check point the armed robbers decided to
take the bull by its horn and tries to swift through the already
parked cars by the road shoulder.

The police on seeing them started opening fire, and in a fierce
battle, they engaged themselves for almost an hour while other
motorist lie down, and the brave among them manage to peep
to see free for all movies LIVE.

Lucky was on the side of the Police Officers, as none of them
sustain any gun shot, however, the polie managed to shoot
about three of the armed robbers and get hold of the remaining
as they are out of ammunition.

They were interrogated as to the whereabout of the remaining
culprits, it takes the police hours of torture before they finally
confessed that 3 others are in Maiduguri and will be leaving any
moment from now.

Thanks to GSM, all the motor parks were immediately highlighted
if they could notice any suspicious person.  The first report came
from the Tashan Kano, where one of the armed robbers was
suspected wearing kaftan (shege dan iska, ina inyamiri da dogon
riga) and blood stain all over his kaftan.  They alerted the police
and he was arrested while trying to join the long bus (luxurious)
infact he has already loaded ghana must go full of nairas ready
to be exported to the south.

All in all (unofficial pronouncement) the police are in custody of
about 20 - 35 million naira.  After thorough interrogation, one of
them confesses that another batch of the thieves have already
boarded the Plateau Riders, they were also arrested before reaching
Bauchi or Jos.  They also confessed that, under their jeep vehicle
weapons and ammunitions will be found.  Hundreds of sophisticated
machine guns were found.

They are still under investigation.  All the above information is
subject to official release from the police, so dont quote DB
anywhere, just for kline members consunption only.
________________________________________________________

The Second incidence happened during the Weekend.
As usual, armed robbers blocked the road between Gwoza
and Bama and started unleashing terror on motorist for
about 2 hours.

An escaped driver informed the uniformed Army officers who
are patrolling along that route from Bama and they immediately
drove to the scene which is about 3 miles from their check point.
On sighting the Army Officers, the armed robbers opened fire
and in the shoot out, one uniformed army was shot dead (i think
he is of the rank of Captain) and also arrested other military
officers (kidnapped if you like).

On hearing the news at the Bama MIlitary Cantonment, they
immediately mobilised their different military attachment and
ready for war.  More battalions were despartched from Monguno
and Maiduguri Metropolis.  An unfortunate incident happened,
while the Monguno contingent were coming, they got a busted
tyre, while their TATA lorry summersaulted and many of the
soldiers sustain bodily injury even before reaching the battle field.

As at now, the whole of Gwoza and its surrounding is a no go
areas "MILITARY ZONE KEEP OFF", wani abokina yana dawowa
daga Konduga yace sun hadu da sojoji wallahi yayi tsammanin
yakine aka fara da Cameroun, because the way are dressed
heavily armed har da hulan kwano da irin ciyawan kai dinnan.

Lessons Learnt
While we dont wish death to any person, be it soldier or police
officer, however, this incident happens at the right time, as
the ordinary man who has always been a robbery victim on
these roads, all his pleas fall on deaf ears of the authority.

Wallahi fashi a wannan hanyar BIU da GWOZA is almost on
daily basis, yau dai dara taci gida, an tabo authority da kanta
and we are seeing action.

For how long will this patrol take? and what are the faiths of
these bank armed robbers?  DB will soon brief you.

NEWS UPDATES

The soldiers who trooped into the Gwoza Hills in
search of the armed bandits have nothing to show
after a week long search.  This is to show you how
things work in my country.

Instead of the soldiers to send in their intelligence
team secretly into the villages, they went in their
heavily armed and well dressed, they taught they
are going for a war.
