Today, 26th October, 2007, exactly this time I am writing
this post, all the Governor's of Nigeria have gathered in
Abuja for a Retreat. Earlier on, the anchor man of the
Governors forum His Excellency, Saraki has this to say
on the governor's retreat before now:-
Saraki also revealed that a retreat for all the governors of
the 36 states of the federation would be held in Abuja to
address the issue of the governors' image and the public
perception of their characters. "We are organising a retreat
for the governors where the governors will sit down and
brainstorm on issues of financing, debt profile, education,
and agriculture etc. These are issues that we need to identify
and focus on.
"We also have to deal with the issue of our image and perception
among the people of this country. Most of the time, when you talk
about governors, it is issues about corruption. This does not help
the image of this country. It is time for all of us to work together
and make people aware that it is not only corruption. We are conscious
of the expectations of people on the governors and we want to
refocus on it. We cannot just dismiss it that it does not matter.
It does matter and we must begin to work consciously to clear the
impression and portray a better image of the governors," he said.
Culled from Thisday Newspaper of 23/10/2007
Hmm from the horse mouth. The issue of Image (face lift up) has
now started worrying the governor's over all. The attitude of the
EFCC towards their fellow governor's is now also the issue of
concern. May be immidiately after this retreat, the country is
going to witness a shocking revelation, as all hands are on deck
to see that EFCC has been rendered powerless by the Executives.
I dont know what brought former President Abdulsalam, Shonekan,
and Gowon, amma ban ga Janar ba.
DB, what do you make of the recent happenings/marriages between the president's daughters and the northern governors, as for the second time since yaradua came to office he is giving his daughterrs hands in marriage to the goverrnor of Bauchi Tomorrow. I don't have any problem with it but makes one wonder why now?
Anyway, here is the article where i saw the announcements.....
...Yar'Adua's Daughter Marries Yuguda Saturday
President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua will on Saturday give out his third daughter, Nafisa, in marriage.
Nafisa will be tying the nuptial knot with the executive governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda.
She becomes the second daughter to be given out in marriage by the president since he assumed office in May this year.
Only three months ago, Nafisa's elder sister, Zainab, got married to Governor Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi State.
The marriage rites would have been concluded few months ago but for the little hitches from the family of the bride.
Indeed Aso Rock was reported to have asked the Bauchi helmsman to give it a few weeks before sending representation to seek Nafisa's hand in marriage.
However, last week, Yuguda received the go ahead to be in Katsina October 27 for the holy solemnisation between him and his beautiful bride.
Nafisa is an undergraduate student in a notable university in the United Kingdom.

Ba laifin yar adua bane. Laifin su gwamnonin ne da suke ganin sun isa sai su zo su tambaya su auri 'yayan. Ni ina ganin those govs are just being opportunistic. On the other hand, I wonder why none asked the hands of OBJ's daughters. Its not as if he dont have them... aplenty kuwa. To I guess its in the beauty stakes that they are left at the alter waiting for the groom. I have seen their pics at a huge doo organized by who ever. They are well... they are ladies....
I agree with you Aunty Husnaa, but you know as a parent you want to make sure your child is marrying for the all the right reasons, and i guess the govs. are just out there for themselves, securing their future for the next eight years, if he(yaradua) gets elected as president in 4 years time. Allah ya bada zaman lafiya dai, ina tausayin matasa yan matan yanzu, they have no idea. Zamani ya chanja yanzu the women are going for the well established, the men if they aren't there yet, they are looking for a woman whose parents are well-off. ;D ;D

Gaskiyar ki, Mumcee. Every parent wants whats best for their children and would want their kids to marry for all the right reasons. Amma in the case of 'Yaradua, even if he doesnt like it (his daughters' marrying incumbent govs), it would be rather awkward for him to voice his doubts or negative feelings if he has them, in his position as the president, even if he knew the motives of these men to be not so pure. If he were Mr Nobody or didnt hold such a prominent office, or have heavy political responsibilities, he might, just might be able to say "Tuz!" or "beat it"! to any would be suitor he doesnt take to. On the other hand anyone who comes a calling when he Yar adua isnt anybody can be thought of as genuinely interested in the girls and not in the political connections to be gained by alliance with 'Yar adua the President. Kai! its a very complicated issue. Allah Ya basu zaman lafiya, kuma Allah Yasa auren ya daure daram, bayan 'Yar adua ya sauka da ga kan prezidency din.. wouldnt it be one of life's greatest turntables if the courts annulled the President's incumbency??? Sai kuma a yi bitar 'yayan turakin adamawa ko kuma Mai gaskiya Janar B. in suna da marriageable daughters.
Yau at the retreat.. I think that gov's retreat was held today, I heard comments by Gen AbdusSalaam on the BBC. Wai soldiers su suka lalata sha'ani or some such... to dai a hankali bakin su na matsuwa suna tonawa kansu asiri.

If i can just ask what exactly our governors are in to cos i jus read some thing that shock me this evening regarding Taliban in the north.let me quote by saying "Our operatives arrested the suspects in Kano, Kaduna and Yobe states in connection with the threat of terrorism," State Security Service spokesman Ado Muazu told AFP, adding that the suspects had a "link to Al-Qaeda groups".
He said they also had links to a group known as the Nigerian Taleban. This Islamic extremist movement first emerged in 2002 calling for a stricter implementation of Islamic Sharia law in the 12 states of northern Nigeria that apply it.
