does anyone know about ittaqaf?
like u stay in the mosque for the last ten days of ramadhan
and pray alot and recite the Holy Qur'an

It's really strange that you have been leaving in kano all this time and you have never heard of Ittiqaf until you went to Pakistan... Anyway, yes I have heard about it long time ago and even in Kano anayi. One mosque I know in Kano that ake yin Ittiqaf in is the Aminuddeen mosque other than that ban san wani ba.
I'm not really sure how it's done cause I have never done it, but I have heard from ppl da sukayi cewa you stay in the mosque through out the last 10 days of Ramadan kana bautan Allah and that you can come out once in a while or something like that...I'm not really sure so I better let it to others here to enlighten you more on the issue.

aminudeens happen to be our family friends and its the mosque we go to for prayers through out the year including tarawees in Ramadhan
