Title: TRIVIA
Post by: HUSNAA on November 19, 2007, 06:25:31 PM
I was listening to the news and I heard this piece of news which I am going to share with u, and I thought, why not have a thread where anyone with any piece of trivial information can just post it up as just a passing fancy for the rest of us? We can read it and ooh aah over it as we see fit, and then just trash it in a bin somewhere within our brains and forget about it. neat eh?

here goes then:

China has 1.43 trillion dollars in reserve RIGHT NOW!!
How much do we have? (Naija I mean)

Tabdi, ai ba mai gaya miki gaskiya.

Wai akwai Uranium a Naija?
In akwai, to me gwamnati take yi dashi?

Yes
Akwai Uranium a Nigeria. A Kano infact!!! (other places probably). Every yr, we get a visit from those nuclear whatever wanda albaradai is in charge of, to see if we are complying with some obscure rules. I have been to the kauye where the hills with the uranium are located.. i just cant remember the name of the village, but its very close to birnin kano off zaria road.

Mai Gwamnati take yi dashi?
Ba gwamnati tace zata fara sarrafa uranium for electricity supply ba? This was said lokacin OBJ, har ya nada committee on it headed (I think) by Prof Umar Ibrahim who was the former BUK VC and a nuclear (or atomic) physicist to boot.

OK another trivia:
80% of all insects live in jungles (heard from David Attenborough "Planet Earth")
A million individual insects can be found on 1 ha of land.

Did you hear this:

People who died of hunger and malaria in
Africa out numbered those who died with
HIV/AIDS, but amount spent on prevention
of HIV/AIDS is triple the amount spent on
hunger and malaria.

@Husnaa,

Wallahi I since ages ago desist myself from such a thought of comparing Nigeria and other countries. I had, before what I can describe as obsessive moment doing that as I started with India. Later I found-out that India has gone to an unassailable peak...hence I put a wedge to this trivia 'work'. Inspite of the fact that Nigeria has both natural and human resources in abundance yet things are still unmentionable to be mentioned. Aunty and other forumites, better follow the tips I've already followed and you would tell me.

It is funny but you see, that is what is actually happening in the real world. In London for example, did you know that 1 in 4 Africans is a Nigerian? Yes,that is true but you see, those Nigerian are actually from one particular tribe. They are not hard to find because they are  everywhere and at any time with lots of bad record which does not do Nigeria much good.I LOVE NIGERIA but the truth is most people feel reluctant to say they are Nigerians in some part of the world.

lol we need a reserve of cash and more! How do u think our currency will appreciate in the world market if we dont have a reserve? Dont u know that having sufficient reserve  means that some of the things that we have to import into the country would become more available to a greated number of ppl, because they can afford it? If we had sufficient reserve, our currency becomes stronger, it is able to compete with the dollar on more equitable terms and if the govt can just ressurrect the dying nigerian industries by cutting interest rates,  providing the necessary infrastructures like electricity and good roads and quality control (something like what NAFDAC is doing [Dora Akinloye ko?])slapping higher tarrifs on imports (not favored by WTO at present), and if those nigerian manufacturers in need of foreign raw materials could be honest in buying what they need not stashing the exchanged currency into their foreign bank accs, then things could be manufactured a lot cheaper and sold a lot cheaper, and  the common man with a stronger nigerian naira, would spend less to acquire a product made in Nigeria.

Lol China has bigger problems than Nigeria; its debts are even bigger than Nigeria's; but where it differs from Nigeria is that it has leaders who care and who stringently punish corruption, lay out policies that would be implemented yrs  after the current leaders are out of power and whats more execute them, instead of just giving bogus budgetary allocations by word of mouth that will never be implemented and that are not thought out thoroughly.

PS not to forget the hardworking population as well. Not like the kashe wandos that abound in Naija..

I think we can but only if we all cooperate. The problem is, how many of us are willing to cooperate? If you look at it,everything seems to be circulating around curruption. What brings about curruption? In most cases,it is 'wanting' to make fast money without sweat. How can one do that,by using illegal options.Spreading the wings of curruption abroad is one way that is why most people think most Nigerians are corrupt. We can change that but it is gonna take us a long time tare da hakuri to do just that.

When Bill Clinton left office, he left two hundred thousand billion dollars in the American treasury.
By the time Bush leaves office in 2008 the American treasury will have a deficit to the tune of over four hundred thousand billion dollars as debt.
No wonder the American economy is presently in tatters.

Well its like this IBB: if u go to market to buy something worth N200, the seller  tells u its N4000,  u tell him that u will give him N2 for it. If he becomes irritated, give him a wide smile and say there is no need to get mad, because the customer is always right... ;D ;D ;D ;D
So its the same with Goga awarding me a measly s class.. my motto is " dont get mad, get everything!!"

I suppose plantain will fall into that category. Hala u love plantains more than bananas. On the other hand kuma, maybe the plantain has to be eaten raw in order to get the medicinal properties of the plantain. In an soya maybe ayi killing the properties. So one has to consider that.

Yes i love plantain but i can't eat it raw.
I don't think frying it would reduce all those benefits.

Recently the Yar'adua Govt is goin to share 313 billion Naira to the 36 states being money drawn from the excess crude reserve and paid to the paris club by the Obj administration. The allocation ould be based on the state's indebtedness to the club.
It is rumoured that Kano state will get aroun 40Billion,which is over half of what it budgeted for 2008.

Aliko Dangote has been named the richest African in the world by Forbes magazine.
He is ranked the 334th richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $3.3 billion.
He is one of the only two Africans who made the record-breaking list of 1,125 billionaires worth $4.4 trillion – the first time the rich-list would cross into four figures.

Well good on Dan Gote.. I just wish we will have more ppl who live above the poverty line. That would be something to be more proud of than having one person with enough money to distribute to more than 1 million ppl and still see them throu their life times... There is something gross and not acceptable about having billionaires in Africa when half a billion of the continent's ppl live below the poverty line... :-\
BTW there are three billionnaires.. One in East Africa, one in South Africa and then our Dan Gote in West Africa... Remains to get one from the Maghreb countries.

Gogannaka, why did you decide to come up with his news in this thread? The title says "Trivia" while the issue, as depicts Husnaa, is beyond trivia for she sounded happy and proud celebrating the man for that achievement?

Personally, I'm indifferent towards everything here. The guy, is to me and I believe others also, very monopolistic. Thus, I don' like such kasuwancin.

Just heard of a brewing crisis in the US: 27 million bees (one third of the total in the US) have mysteriously disappeared (died). This is threatening a  section of agricultural production in the US. One woman bee keeper has already become bankrupt as a result, and there have been reported cases of bee hive thefts in the country.

Muhsin kenan.
Zancen bai yi maka dadi ba kenan.
Where did you want me to post it?

You might not like such kasuwancin Dangote but FYI he is the largest individual employer of labour in Nigeria, second largest employer of labour in the whole country(second to NBC/coca-cola) so i guess being monopolistic is rewarding in this case.

I even disagree with your belief over the monopoly issue.

Anyways Nigeria needs people like him.
