Title: Kanoonline--way forward?
Post by: gogannaka on October 12, 2008, 09:27:52 PM
What is the way forward for kanoonline.
Will it just continue to be an online forum?
There is a need to make it more than an online forum.
Maybe we could be organising an annual lecture or Forum.
What do you say?

That is pretty good Idea GGNK! But who will sponsore and think of the other logistics! But generally I like the Idea and there could some additions to the annual lecture! ;D ;D ;D ;D

our source of income should be  N10.00
for each post e.g. GGNK has 2455 posts
multiplied by N10.00 = N24,550.00.

It should be N1 for unmarried fellows and N100 for the married ones.

Well, For Prof. Abdalla & Dr Adamu, I can say they are very busy. But you can appoint one to be the Guest Speaker/Lecturer and the Other to be the Chairman of the Ocassion or he Moderator! For the sponsorship you can consult... can I say... ::) ::) ::) ::)

Great idea. But I thought something like was done before? Without people Prof and oga Admin, organizing such an event would be very difficult.

This is great Gogannaka. I think I once thought of it with the legendary Waziri. We even went to the extent of meeting with the Kanoonline stakeholders i.e Prof Abdallah, Webmaster, Salisu Danyaro and Mal. Ibrahim Ado Kurawa. They gave us the go ahead. And I remember giving a proposal to Waziri, but since then we did not talk of the matter anymore.

But now I think this is what it should be done. First, we need to call for a Kanoonline conference where we will invite abstract for people to come and present papers on politics, economy, and social problems that has to do with Northerners and by extension Nigeria.

My proposal is:

Let's start now. All abstract should be submitted to Dan Borno, EMTL and Husnaa. However, those who are not willing to submit abstract are not protected in any way from coming to the confab. Everybody is welcome. Once you are a Kanoonliner that's all!

So once an abstract is being submitted, Myself, Waziri and Gogannaka together with Prof Abdallah can evaluate it and see if it's worth presenting at the venue of the confab.

I will discuss with the EMTL about the venue. Nonetheless, it will be good if we can do it at British Council or Arewa House in Kaduna. Myself together with EMTL can provide some logistical supports that have to do with drinks and food for the participants. I have once talked to EMTL about it and he agreed with my assertions.

I therefore propose December 25th as our tentative date. But members are at liberty to argue and debate it out.
I remain loyal!

you guys are thinking great.  this brief is
enough to set the engine on paya, for those
who are ready to submit their abstract should
mail them to:-
busuguma@gmail.com
or
busuguma@yahoo.com

I have no objection as for the timing, its perfect.
I will vote for Kaduna to be the venue of the
occasion.

Will I be invited to this lecture? Like it or not, I have contributed some materials to this forum that have both inspired and infuriated some. Someone also suggested a hosting venue of Kaduna. Why? What about security for the less admired contributors? These are important issues to take to account. Shikena!

King you are a kanoonliner and yes you have contributed to the forum.
Are you afraid of being attacked by your friends?..LOL
I'm sure you will be welcome.

Nura has set the ball rolling.
I'll suggest we invite some non-members to also present papers. What do you say.

Nurudeeen I am proud of you. Like GGNK has said you have set the ball rolling! Keep it up! But unfortunatlely the time you fixed temporarily for the event, I will be away for Hajj. Hopefully, if I am back before the event, I shall participate. However, all my prayers will inlude this noble effort. May Allah help us all.

Why can't members who are away send in their abstract and participate through the web? Since it is webmatic, it will be an innovation to have an online paper(virtual paper). The web paper could be presented by a proxy. Let's try! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

http://[flash=200,200]Salam,

I think the idea of a get together is very important and this will give room for many of us to be able to see and chat with each other fuska - da - fuska.

I can't wait to see the crocky faces of GogannaKa, Mudacriss, Hafsy Lady, Salisu Danyaro, Dante, Legendary Waziri, Nura Jibo, etc.[/flash]
On the issue of Venue, I am of the opinion that this meeting should be rotational, that is to say that the program should take place some where else (May be it should rotate to other states). So am suggesting that the program this time around should take place at Zaria.

And on the issue of sponsorship, am suggesting that we should find a good restaurant where we can converge and whatever we are going to eat or drink, every body should sponsor himself. (ie whatever we are going to eat may not pass a simple plate of food and some drinks, so I think every body should be able to pay for his services and with this idea, we don't need to bother our selves with the burden sponsorship. I am pretty sure we are all capable of sacrificing just a thousand Naira for refreshment.)

There are a good number of restaurants in Zaria which we can go to ( Like Shagalinku, Al-Nasiha, Tulips etc).

Yours Hausaniciously.

Hmm, I was away, reading for exams, for I spend days at Ashaka Resort 'resting' amidst exam days. I have to gear-up to reach the 'gleam', if not I'll...see. LOL ;D

Let me start by saying my compliment to especially GGNK, for starting the thread, and to Nura for, as GGNK and Jibo have said, 'setting the ball rolling'. May Allah help and support us in carrying the task, amin.

We've, I can remember, been discussing on this very issue for long on both this and chit-chat boards. We almost have concluded of the venue, where Muda suggested Allien Francee, the date DB said some day in December, sponsor ???, and so on. Further, the venue should rightly be KANO, pls.

As for me I would like to discuss 'Health and safety from Islamic perspective'. My only problem is the timing may not be convenient for those intending to go and perform Hajj. Allah (SWT) Ya sa mu dace.

Members! I tin we forgot something in organising a lecture. It seems we ae organising a Conference. A Public LECTURE ha only one or two presenters centring on one topic, whic will generate discussion. But WHEN YOU ASK inerested people to send in abstract, you will hae to have main theme and sub theme. You can see from the topics chosen by some members there is need for synthesizing them. Do we have Public Lecture on an interesting topic , where w invite a exper or two to present papers, while members attend, listen and discuss or rather a Conference with a central theme and sub-theme Please, for  well co-ordinated occassion let us do this! ;)

Well, members and the inaitor seems to be drailing away from my advice. It is good we make things clear. if it is Coference for all to present pares there should be a central theme and sub themes for guidance and strealining the topics and I suggest it should be Public Lecture, where one or two scholars are invited to make presentation on an issue, like the Moral Issues discussed about NEW develoment in Hausa entertainment! Please, let us think about it. 8) ::) ::) ::)

Well, since you have suggested a public lecture, I think you should go ahead and propose who and who you think can come and present that day. We do not want suggestions that are superficial in nature. Please try and be thorough in your approach. We have been nursing these ideas for over three years yet nothing has been done. We actually want to transform Kanoonline into a physical forum rather than hiding and/or camouflaging under the screen name. We want to eventaully transform it into an NGO where we will be creating political, economic and social awareness to our people, especially at grassroot. So let us ponder over all these my dear Kanoonliners. And I thank you.

I buy the idea of a public lecture. However who will be the speaker? Who and who do we have in mind to invite? How sure are we of their attendance? I believe these are the critical questions we should focus on. I have hope that EMTL, DB and Jibo can effectively handle the organization.

Goodluck, Nuraddeen.
I can remember we once talked about that with Prof. Abdallah. He further told me that you and Waziri (I think) were the first to brought-up the issue to stake. But I wonder where on Allah's earth is Waziri now. He in harness with you and other able members, I reckon, can think of more ways to achieving that great goal.

Allah ya taimaka, amin.

The next step is for the organisers to schedule a meeting (could be an online conference meeting) to discuss the way foreward. Let's PM our email addresses to each other and set a date.
I second the public lecture proposal but like Nura and BKGZ said, who do we have in mind that will no doubt attend. Late Dr. Suleiman Kumo discussed about the soveriegn national conference during the last meeting and it was OK. So who will present at this one and what topics would you recommend?
I think from the topics we can at least propose a presenter.

Title: Re: Kanoonline--way forward?

Well, ladies and gentlemen. AS Public Lecture is in favour of most people replying. I suggest that Prof. Abdallah presents a paper on a topic suggested topic: Globalisation through Website: What benefit and what course for Arewa? or Hausa People or Nigeria. Or We can say Website and the freedom fo speech; what can censor do about it?! GGNK i SUGGEST YOU CONTACT the Prof. since you are closer to him. on the alternative the Prof can choose a topic suitable and convenient for him. You can equally request Dr Yusuf Adamu to be a Moderator. One paper is enof so that it cannot be boring and it will give members ample time to interact! Cheers! I am preparing for Hajj this year insha Allah! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Kanoonline--way forward?

Why can't we do this in Kano? I mean, I'm not against having it elsewhere, but I feel for a start, it is better here. This is like the "home". The organization would be easier here, seeing as we may be able to convince Prof. to deliver the paper. He can help us get other high profile invitees, and probably use his weight to get us the British Council for a venue. Then subsequent editions, when we might have taken off properly, can be held anywhere we choose. Ya kuka gani?
Title: Re: Kanoonline--way forward?

Kano should be the Venue.
And yes we could use the British council as venue,If it is available.

The topic suggested by Jibo sounds good. Freedom of information and the web, Information dissemination using the internet, Blogging:news source etc.
Maybe we should get a newspaper editor to present.

BKGZ don't run away from being part of the organisers.

Muhsin was at Choge's concert as well as other esteemed members of this forum. While at the venue, a fellow called Dan-Barno called him and told him that he wish he was also at the venue.

Muhsin's only contact with Dan Maraya was at FCE, Kano when the singer was invited during dresscode lecture by the school authority.

Salam All,
First I have to beg your pardon because of my inability to pass comment. I lost someone who's very dear to me. So I was off work for sometime. I think we are in order. Muhsin can take the lead. Gogannaka and I can follw him in getting it done. EMTL and I will meet and come up with some modalities. I will suggest some people that can give public lecture if approached.

I think it will be a nice idea to put it at the back of our mind that once we meet we shall in sha Allah transform Kanoonline forum into an association or NGO so that we can start advocating physically the "change we need" within and outside ourselves. What do you think my honourable ladies and gentlemen?

Oh my dear God! You gentlemen don't know who and how that Muhsin is, I think thats why you are passing this 'judgement' to him that he could lead the group. Hm. Ikon Allah...na kwance ya fadi. GGNK is the right person to lead with me as an assistant. ::) ::) ::)

BTW, Allah ya jikan musulmi, Nura. Allah ya kara hakurin juriya, amin.

A. The plan:

My proposed speakers eventhough they might decide to watch from background
1. Prof Abdalla
2. Dr. Adamu of Geography Department, BUK
3. Mal. Ibrahim Ado Kurawa- Director Research and Documentation
4. EMTL
5. Ajingi
6.Dan Barno

These people are expected to say one or two things at the gathering.

B. On the issue of NGO:

Jibo Nura, Gogannaka, Hausanicious, Muhsin, Mlbash, Bakan Gizo, and Dante will form a syndicate to elect a committee of five people that will steer the initial stage of the NGO plannin strategy viz: mission, vision and goals etc. Its a kind of impromptu committee. The chairman and secretary of the committee will be elected there and then i.e within the committee members.

C. We shall pay courtesy call to Shekarau if there is time. And I think Mal. Ado Kurawa can help us in keeping an A.P. Gogannaka pls get in touch with Mal Ibrahim and hear whether he can book the appointment for us. I will also phone him amd hear if its possible. We shall tell the Gov what we intend to do as an online, but concerned people.

D. I stand to be corrected please.

Dr. Adamu of Geography is going to the Hajj, too. I wouldn't count on Shekarau and Ibrahim Ado being either around or available at the period, too! And as I said in the other posting, I thought Nura would be on the Hajj too!

Interesting plans there, nuruddeen. I'm not aware an NGO is in the offing. Nice.

Prof - If both Shekarau and Dr. Adamu are likely to be unavailable at that time, shouldn't the date be adjusted? Maybe after Hajj?

Thank you Prof for the information. We can look for any Kano tough government official perhaps Commissioner of Information or Science and technology if he happens to be around and pay a courtesy call.Actually, there is a mix up on the Hajj issue. It~s the other Jibo that said he will leave for Hajj not Nuruddeen. On the issue of date we propose December 25th but its tentative I think. We can shift it to December 30th or even 1st January. But what do you think my honourable members... Please suggestions.

I think it is better we postpone the meeting from the 25th to sometime in January.
What we should clearly agree upon is the kind of meeting/gathering we are going to have. What is the purpose and how would it be?
Is it going to be a get together and a courtesy call to the said officials,a public lecture or a paper presentation? And we should also clearly agree on who will deliver what (if it is a puclic lecture or paper presentation). If it is going to be a presentation or lecture then the speakers should be given ample notice and we need to confirm their attendance in due time.

Nura i doubt if Kano state has a science and technology ministry, also a courtesy call on the governor might be very difficult. The deputy Gov might be easier or the information commissioner as you suggested.

P.S:lol i cannot possibly be the leader, like prof said....not enough time honestly.

Sincerely speaking, that December stuff needs, actually, subtle plan and strategy so as to avoid the usual succumbs mentioned by prof. at other thread that hindered their subsequent trials and efforts in other fora. For example, we really need to have a single, able and potential leader to lead the lead. Wallahi I know myself; can't lead. How a rabbit can lead a group of animals that comprise hynas, lions, tigers and even elephants. Impossible, inconcievable and undoable, huh? Thats my reason, and I know is genuine and acceptable, eh. GGNK, pls ka yarda ka karbi shugabancin nan. Who can you propose, any way? Don't think we have anyone better or rather apart from you available.

Na biyu; I think mun tantance cewar public lecture ce. And the choice of the lecturers is excellent to me. Sai dai Rabo... ;D ;D ;D

Sannan ganin gwamna ma won't be a big deal, I think. We've digniteries here fa, eg Prof and other invaluable fellows who can make that real. Dan Allah ko in silence ne if you know you can do that pls do.

Thnaks

Nuruddeen the event has been reduced to a get together.
It will be held on the 3rd of January 2008 at Alliance Francais Kano Inshaallah.

There we will discuss how to move the forum forward,as per discussed earlier.
