From News Sources / Kano Govt stops music exhibition
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:45:11 PM »
The French cultural center, Alliance Francaise, organised a music exhibition with performing artistes from both European and African countries, Nigeria inclusive. However before the day of the event, the Kano state government cancelled the event citing reasons which were so foolish as to make me forget them.
Now i am not the kind of guy who can sacrifice an arm to attend such events, but i can sense a "more catholic than the pope" attitude here, a sanctimonious, holier-than-thou overzealousness in enforcing a moral code. The "bikin aure" by whatever name it is called,  is  more worthy of their attentions if i understand their intentions well. It is in such bukukkuwa that adult male and females mingle freely dancing to sexually seductive songs.Nobody says a thing. But it happens daily.
I think it is a tad bit strong handed. And it is the same Government that officially keeps a dancing cultural troupe which it is even proud of.The famous "koroso troupe" as far as i know, do not conform to their defination of morality, but why then keep them.
I dont know if i am coming out too strongly, but i am just trying to dispassionately assess Government's actions and see if It is consistent and steadfast in enforcing Its rule.

Hi all, i dont think anyone can rightly pronounce this forum as dead without hearing from the admin through BBC, then we can invoke section 145. In the interim DB should automatically assume the mantle of admin and continue with the status quo.
As an incentive to forumites to continue posting away, i propose to the "acting admin" to set up an intervention fund whereby members would be granted some monies to enable them buy a small "i pass my neighbour" generator, at least a month's 24/7 internet subscription with MTEL and lastly a tokunbo laptop. This would have the cascade effect of empowering our black market petroleum dealers, shylock telecom operators, and the wuru wuru second hand computer sellers at computer village ikeja.
It would put more revenue into the pockets of government officials through increased revenue derivable from the strong arm tactics of unofficial revenue collectors. Other beneficial effect of this proposal is that we would cement our near-pole position in the global carbon economy. A lot of highly skilled jobs would be created for scientists, journalists, green activists etcetra, with the trickle-down effect of transfer of knowledge to Nigeria.
See how a humble solution to resurrecting an online forum can result in having the greatest good for the greatest number. All we need is some patience and a wee bit of luck.

Fascinating stuff in this thread.Really, really, amazing.I saw the joke in the initial post straight away and i was having a good laugh, shaking my head and muttering"youthful overzealousness"but hey, thats nothing new. Then all of a sudden the thread started getting heated, tempers flaring, allegations and counter allegations were being thrown. The stuff thriller books are made of:terrorists, tinpot dictators, attempted as well as successful assasination of presidents, confessions by ex government agents. The postings take the reader from mexico to fareast with stop over in california, scotland, and Africa.
It is a must read for all those who have been perplexed by the activities of "the global police".
