Malam Shekarau considers education in Kano

Education got the highest budgetary allocation of N12.8bn from the N71.5bn budget proposal presented to the Kano State House of Assembly by Gover-nor Ibrahim Shekarau yesterday.

The budget tagged Budget of Sustainable Economic Growth and Development is expected to be financed through federally generated revenue of N62.8bn and grants and miscellaneous receipts of N8.7bn.

According to the breakdown, education has the highest estimate of N12.8bn, over 15% of the total budgetary allocation.

Primary and secondary education received N9.1bn while basic education received N1.61bn. Science and technical education got N6.1bn from the education allocation, while higher education got N3.2bn.

Agriculture, which is the main stay of the state's economy got N3.9bn, out the total sum for the sector, fertilizer procurement got N1.3bn with agricultural exten-sion services having N1.5bn. Tractors and other agricultural equipments got an allocation of N230m.

The health sector got N5.4bn, water supply was allocated N1bn during the fiscal year while manufacturing got N528m.

Road construction in urban areas was allocated the sum of N2.7bn while N3.24bn was allocated to inter state road networks, N150m will also be expended on the provision of street lights within the city.

The governor announced the provision of N1.76bn for constituency projects, while the housing sector got N1.9bn.

In the budget, rural and community development was allocated the sum of N1bn, while environment got N1.88bn.

Social development was allocated the sum of N495m, with Sharia implementation having the sum of N627m.

Information Ministry got N2bn with the state television having the highest allocation in the sub sector of N318m, Radio Kano got N284m while Triumph Newspapers was allocated the sum of N168m.

Others are the NYSC permanent site which allocated the sum of N260m, Culture Bureau got N17m and the N294m for the promotion of sports and culture.
