Nigeria is poor and it is getting poorer. That is the conclusion UNDP came up with after conducting their annual survey on the living conditions of people in mother earth.

I can't say that I am suprised by this assertion based on the monumental fraud, corruption, missallocation of priorities and outright theft of government money happening in Nigeria. In this respect, there is no state of level of govt that can escape blame.

The irony of  it all is that Nigeria is now reaping unprecedented sums of money from exporting crude.  In fact, at no time in Nigeria's history can we find a parallel to the kind of windfall with are witnessing now. Yet, misery, squalor and abject poverty is closer to us than ever before.

The tragedy of it all is that we are in a state of denial. Those at the federal level (like a dinosour named Prof Ojowu) are actually disputing this based on nothing else but their word. I wish when next the gentleman goes to his village the unemeployed youths, the elderly, the sick-mothers and the school childern gang up and give him the beating of his life for toying with the future of our nation. If the feds response is considered reprehensible then that of the state govt can only be describe as criminal.

I doubt if any state govt cared enough to read the whole length of the report because of the utter contempt they have for all things foreign. This is most especially so in the North which, if not for the averaging factor of the south, will be poorer than all but Niger republic!

I have some question which I need someone to answer:
(1) do our leaders know what the MDG's  are?
(2) what are they doing to that effect?
(3) and why, oh why, do they spend so much on aides, advisers, commisioners and vehicles?

It now seems to me as if Nigeria will never be great because it will take monumental efforts by all, especially the society, to effect a meaningful change. In the meantime, people are content with being sychopants and liars. They sell their soul to the devils we call governors, legislators, president and politicians.

I ask, is there a way out?

May Allah help us all.....

Yeah. And the "considerate" people of Bayelsa state (I assume you are refering to that governor) have embarked on a 3-day fasting for a quick release and return of their governor.      Men! What a country! The saying that a society deserved its leaders is beggining to make sense to me.
