I would greatly appreciate it if someone could recommend to me the best hotel in Kano [and phone number if possible for an American expat to stay. I will be reimbursed by my organization so cost is really not the issue. I will be there for the week of Dec. 15. At leastr perhaps someoine could suggest where I might find hotel info for Kano.

The best hotels in Kano nowadays seem to be privately owned and operated, though Daula Hotel, a Kano State owned hotel is now making some kind of a come back. Below is a short list and I will InShaAllah be getting more details soon;

I have visited all four hotels I have listed earlier - today, talk to the Managers and based on my visit to these hotels, I have to remove Daula Hotel from the list at least in this case and for now. I will also rearrange the order of the list, again based on my observation to the following;

1) Tahir Guest Palace
2) Ni'imah Guest Palace
3) Prince Hotel

I am going to list as much details as possible but keep in mind that if you are going to be here for an extended stay, you may be able to negotiate a lower rates as told to me by the Managers of at least two of the hotels. Also Tahir Guest Palace and Ni'imah Guest Palace have a mini Cyber Cafe (so that you can visit KanoOnline.com and check your mails) at their premises. The rate is in Naira currency and you can have an idea of the exchange rates (which is somewhat erratic) by visiting KanoOnline.com exchange rate conversion page.

Note that they all charge 10% Service Charge, 5% VAT and 1% Tourism Levy. (These are like Sale taxes and service tips you are likely to pay in the U.S.A.).

Thank you and do not hesitate to as any other information you need regarding Kano here. Either myself or many other KanoOnline members and visitors will be willing to help provide the information. As for California, and West Coast in general, I have heard a lot of good news about how nice the place is and how friendly people are compared to the New York and East Coast area of the U.S. Despite living in the U.S. for over 20 years, I have never had the opportunity of visiting California and West Coast. I have somewhat confined myself to the East Coast and to some extent the Mid-West. It will be a pleasure to someday visit California and West Coast and when that opportunity comes, InShaAllah I will e-mail you...

I think the Rate is per night and if I am not mistaken, the deposit should be for the night or however many nights you stay within that room and to be paid / balance ( less other charges e.g.. phone, laundry etc?) back to you when you are leaving...
