Information Required

Could any of you good people from Kano help me or give me some information?
Is there still an expatriate cemetry in Kano, it used to be located on the road to the airport, way back in the 1970,s.
My father was buried their, and i have been unable to visit since 1972.
I would like to revist the grave, but I heard a rumour that the cemetry had been moved.
I cannot get any information from the embassy in London.
Any help or direction or who to contact would be appreciated.

yes theres a cemetry on Airport rd in Kano. It has not been moved. I think u will find it anytime u make up ur mind on visiting the place. Its on the right hand side if ur going in the direction of the airport. U can ask any person taking u there. I hope this information will be of help to u.

I do intend to return, as i have so many good memories of growing up in the late 60/70's in the North.
I plan to bring my family and show them your wonderful country.

Hi Ali,
I spent most of my time as a kid in Gusau, some time in Sokoto, travelled all around the North really, all the names come flooding back. Even picked up a little Hausa.I still have my text book "a Key to Hausa", purchased from the sim bookshop.
I am looking forward to visiting and rekindling my fond memories of the North. Last time is was in Kano was over 30 years ago, i guess a few things have changed since then!

ohhh yes....alot has changed since that time....not to mention my emergence  ;D..but anyway, i think the culture hasnt changed much tho. The Emir's palace is still the same but renovated, the city wall still remains, but not completely.  i'm sure u will find places u still recognise. but the city has expanded abit, which i'm sure u r expecting. it has an estimated population of about 4 million people now. so where did u stay when u were in Kano?

Hi Zezezee,
I never really lived in Kano i only came for holidays. We were based in Gusau.Which i remember was a fairly long drive.
I have stayed in the central hotel twice (dont know if that is still going) then other times we stayed at friends houses as their guests, (the company had a head office in Kano).
Also spent a little time in Kaduna, Zaria, and Sokoto.
Even went down to Lagos, just after the war and Warri around 1970.
So i have seen a little of your vast country.

okay, bob, you've probably seen more than anyone of us has, you'll be happy to know electricity and water has reached gusau, lol! anyone from Gusau???
so,
as the tradition is, a person visiting kano after a long time, must present himselve to the king, or his head will be cut off.
as such, you must learn how to greet His Excelency in case you wanna meet Him "mate"

you must lie on you back and raise your legs up, and put them in motion as if you were walking, this signifise that you have come back to the great city of kano.
then your hands, you must spread them wide open and slowly bring them into position of a hug, thats to show that you have missed kano.

this is the lesson for the day, please practise properly, i'll be back with more tips tommorow.

Kanoonline is giving me great pleasure, there are some very interesting topics,some i dont understand if  am honest, but you are all very friendly  
Now al_hamza i am pleased electricity has reached Gusau, although i do remember them having it way back then.
The Amir will think i have gone bush if lay on my back...however ill practise for you.
Bu i think i prefer ranka dai dai.
Could i not say sannu maigirmaa? or is that not correct.

I can say the words ranka ya dadt'de, but i must apologise for my spelling. You know its 30 years since i had the pleasure of your country, i have met few Nigerians in uk, but i did meet a famous man  from your country many years ago... But he came from the south!!

Revisit where? :o Bob Smith make sure u put a garlic chain round ur neck & keep ur cross, & plzzzzz hire a slayer cuz I HEARSAY vampires full graveyard....it gives me a ripenin chill......not 2 even mention that a freind told me he revisted d grave of his gulfreind 2 deliver daisies & roses but she actually ducked out her hands 2 receive d flowaz (Yeah ryt lyk am s'ppose 2 believe that ::) (d illest joke of d millenium)!!Grave yards give me d chillest of all chills.......& finally may ur dad (RIP).Am sure those domiciled in kano will hav more info.
