US Election: Senate sends delegation to Democratic Convention

The Senate is sending a team to observe this year's Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, United States.

The team will be headed by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who was invited by the United States Democratic Party as one of international leaders who will observe the party's National Convention where presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, is to be declared first black candidate.

In an invitation letter by former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, Chairman of the National Democratic Institute Board of Directors and Kenneth Wolack, President of the Institute, the Deputy Senate President would be attending the convention under the 2008 International Leaders Forum (ILF).

The letter stated that the National Democratic Institute will bring together current and former government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, and senior political party leaders from over 100 countries to observe the nomination process of the Democratic Party's candidate for President and Vice President of the United States.

Other senators to be on the entourage include Senators Bode Olajumoke (PDP, Ondo North), Mohammed Kabir Jibril (PDP, Kaduna Central, Anyim Ude (PDP, Ebonyi
