Riyadh Institute Offers Arabic for Non-Arabs
Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago, Arab News

RIYADH, 22 May 2007 — The Institute of Teaching Arabic in Riyadh
(ITAR) is offering several courses in Arabic as a foreign language to
non-Arab students and expatriates of any faiths for the next semester
that starts in September.

Professor Abdul Aziz Al-Osaili, dean of the institute, told Arab News
that this year's program would provide more options for learners in
terms of levels and courses.

ITAR's targets are diplomats and expatriates who are working in
health care. Al-Osaili said special programs are offered for in-the-
workplace courses provided there are enough students.

The Education Ministry through Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University
grants 100 scholarships to non-Arab students from Islamic countries
and minorities each year. The university established ITAR about 30
years ago.

Al-Osaili said that ITAR has welcomed thousands of non-Arab students
from 100 countries in intensive and non-intensive programs. "Students
will notice the difference in teaching quality and they will find
some courses tailored to their specific needs," Al-Osaili added.

ITAR is accepting applications until Aug. 29. For further information
ITAR can be contacted at 01-258-5568 or fax to 01-259-0289.
