Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir el-Rufai, and three other ex- ministers, who served under former president Olusegun Obasanjo might be in for a serious trouble.

LEADERSHIP gathered from a reliable source that the Federal Government has decided to set up a judicial panel of inquiry to look into all business and administrative transactions carried out by the former ministers during their tenures in office.

Secretary to the federal government, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, has submitted some vital documents to the chief justice of the federation, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi yesterday as a prelude to the constitution of the panel.
Culled from Leadership Online version
Monday 7th January, 2007

Malam el-Rufai was a member of economic team and kitchen cabinet of the Obasanjo government.

Before then, he had served as director-general, Bureau of Public Enterprises, a federal government parastatal charged with the responsibility of privatisation of public firms.

His public pronouncements and programmes had generated huge controversy, especially at the tail end of the Obasanjo government.

Although the direction of the proposed panel was not clear last night but a recent administrative panel constituted by the current minister of FCT, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, had revealed some questionable business transactions, especially land deals, carried out by el-Rufai as minister of the nation's capital.

During the Obasanjo's tenure, it was the media both the print and
air that blewed the trumphets of these two brave men, Malam Nuhu
and EL-Rufai to the whole world making them look like Saints of their
own time.

Now its pay back time, the same media is blowing harder to show that
these two men are the worst members of the Obasanjo administration,
while they stay to suffer the humiliation of what they called obedience
to the President, little do people knew what really transpired during their
period of tenure, for as at that time, they were KITCHEN CABINETS,
they have 100% access to Mr. President at any time.

From the same newspaper online resource, an anonymous comments that:

The charges against El-rufai should include;
mass killing of Abuja residents in the  name of his Hippocratic correction of Abuja master plan -questionable resettlement of indegenes of fct
cost of demolition
chika demolition and matters arising
illegal powers given to his numerios girl friends
deposition of chief of Garki and matters arising
secrets chinise deals
sale of fed govt houses to his many women and forrein partners in proxy
purge of civil service and matters arising from the purge
the death of justice Sambo
his secret security outfit
too many bad things to name .
we shall provide evidences when call upon to do so.
   ;D guys are funny

Another anonymous also commented thus:

We all welcome this development. One of the charges should please include on why El-r
ufai forcefully ejected that old man Justice Bashir Sambo (May his gentle soul rest i
n peace) from his house? We are not yet conviced of his reasons given.

A gaskiya the issue of this Justice Sambo has really tourched me,
this is one man that has dedidated almost all his entire life to the
development of our country, amma sai ga kayansa abakin hanya.

Another different opinion also said:

Whatever probe instituted, it is sure Mallam Nasir el-Rufai would come out clean. This is one Nigerian that has served Nigeria diligently well without fear or favour. Some people might not like his frankness and fearless candour, but all these does not translate into corruption or administrative infraction. The present administration should face governance squarely, leave its frustrating go slow and directionless approach and give Nigerians dividends of democracy. Nasir is ever ready to render puiblicly the accounts of his stewardship whenever he is called upon to do so. At least his ferocious approach at the FCT is better than the present lukewarm approach of Moddibbo.

That is that for Malam El-Rufai, i even heard that his house was also
marked for demolition in Abuja and he is complaining that he should be
given enough notice to quit.

DB Opinion:

Left to me, public servants who have served this country diligently and
faith should not be crucify for a mistake they made while performing their
official assignments.  However, instruments of check and balances should
be strictly conform to while they are in office.

Most of this allegations suffered in Nigeria, wether from the State Governments
or the Federal Governments are related to Executive Go Ahead.  The
PResident may call a Minister on the phone and say: Minister, do this
immidiately, none of the documents will carry the name of the President
but the Minister, and at the end of the day, the Minister or Commissioner
as the case may be takes the blame.

This case is very rampant.  During the 2003 Elections, billions of Nigerian
Naira has been siphoned through allocations to State Government while
the Presidency directs the Executive Governors on what to do with the same
money - same thing happens with the Ministers and other offices of the
Chief Executives.

Allah ya gyara - muma mu ji tsoron Allah.

Thats exactly what pop-up my mind when I started reading this thread DB. But even if they should be charged why not untill when one leave office? There is, most likely, something like a snare unnoticiably laid for them. If not why now? Whats the work of auditing section in all govt.  offices and parastatals?

But there is a great lesson to learn from the plight of these two gentlemen--El-Rufa'i and Ribadu sincerely. Well...this isn't for me to say but really there is it. Have lots to do but when I get back. As usual, huh?
