Senate Impeaches OBJ........!
« on: March 05, 2004, 10:07:27 AM »
Assalamu alaikum,

In a move aimed at commencing fresh impeachment process against President Olusegun Obasanjo, a Senator from Kebbi State, Usman Sani Sani has submitted a letter to Senate President Adolphus Wabara listing seven constitutional breaches by the President.

Sami's letter, which was dated February 9, 2004, and copied to all senators, accused Obasanjo of the breach of his oath of office, which he swore to protect and defend, as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He alleged that the president committed these constitutional breaches, "through certain policies and actions that are inimical to the development of our dear country and the citizenry".

According to the Senator, the constitutional breaches are "the non-implementation of the 2003 budget, which is an Act of the National Assembly, Section 80 (2) (3) & (4); interference in the local government elections through purported reform that negated constitutional processes and procedures, thereby leading to the appointment of caretaker committee that are undemocratic.

OBJ is a complete disaster!!! my worry is that all this impeachment moves will die out like all the others that were tried.  Money will change hands and everyone will keep quite.  The greed amongst our people is just alarming it is the stumbling block of any chigaba in nigeria.  This man came to power full of vengence and greed now we are in a worse state than we ever were.

Public utilities are completely run down with corruption and they have decided to pivatise them by selling them to OBJ's family and friends.  In a country with nigeria's resourses and in a democratic environment a minister is killed and the govt con not even find the killers, senior members of political parties are murdered no almost on a monthly basis, armed robbers are having a field day and evn attack convoys of govenors.  The armed robbers are better armed than the police and army put togther and he say he is president.  How do we really expect the police even with their corruption to fight crime? they do not have patrol vans, no proper guns and equipment etc yet mr president is flying around the world!

Police in nigeria do not have communication radios!! in 2004 can you believe that in a country that is the 6th largest oil exporter.  The man has focused on Abacha and his family for what? Yes Abacha may have had his own failings and wrongs but you can not have a president whose rule is all about getting abacha and northerners! what about himself how did he get otta farm? or has he forgotten that he signed the decree into place that was used to execute almost 200 military officers and civilians in 1975?  This fixaation with Abacha and the so called abacha loot is rubbish what has been done with the present loot the country has?

I stay in a country where health facilities we would consider as first class and only for top people in nigeria is a common place! the drugs are there you get an accident on a road abulances, police are there within minutes, yet this is not a place with more resources than nigeria!

Anyway the bottom line is for as long as he is not taken out it is just another scheme to make money!!!!

Assalamu alaikum,

.........Gani seeks Obasanjo’s impeachment

The chairman of the National Consensus Party (NCP) and front line human right crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) has declared that President Olusegun Obasanjo has completely derailed and called on the National Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings against him for violating the country’s constitution.

Addressing journalists in Lagos Monday, Chief Fawehinmi stated that the prevailing insecurity in the country today showed that Obasanjo has lost control of governance of the country.

He declared that Obasanjo’s failure to provide basic educational facilities coupled with prevailing poverty in the land constituted a breach of the constitution and therefore liable to impeachment.

Assalamu alaikum,

Nigerains abroad wants OBJ's removal also...........US-based Nigerians move against Obasanjo
• New York grants permission for tomorrow’s protest march

A coalition of 21 Nigerian groups in the United States is planning a protest march against President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, in what promises to be the biggest rally of its kind.

Billed for Tuesday at the United Nations  in New York,  the march has already received the permission of the  city officials.

Groups expected to participate include the Pan Nigerian Democracy Movement, World Igbo Congress, Igbo U.S.A New Jersey, Anambra State Association of U.S.A. (ASA-USA),  Anambra Enugu State Association of New Jersey and the Igbo Organization of New York.

Several other associations from major American cities have also indicated interest to participate, along with observers from  pro democracy and human rights groups in Nigeria.

According to one of the organisers, who is ASA-USA President, Jimmy Asiegbu, the rally is to sensitise the international community on the dismal performance of Obasanjo and his role in the Anambra State crisis in particular.

Said he: "The plot to overthrow Governor Chris Ngige is still very much alive and well. The plot to replace  the state's police commissioner with one who will carry out their new plot is also very much concluded. We must forestall this plot.”

Accusing Obasanjo of not doing enough to prosecute those identified as being behind the plot against Ngige, Asiegbu said the President has failed in his constitutional duties to maintain law and order.

He said  as Anambra State continues to "slide down the slippery slope of destabilization"  Obasanjo seems to favour declaring  a state of emergency  in the state  where  opponents of the governor will loot the treasury.

It was learnt that the expected delegation from Nigeria will present letters to representatives of several countries on  alleged human rights abuses by the Nigerian government.  In its annual report, the US government has also accused Nigerian security agencies of gross abuse of the rights of citizens.

The report says Obasanjo has not done enough to  curb the excesses of state security organisations
