Sounds somehow new, maybe thought for the first time!
With barack obama being the first black american presido, within his first few hours as the new elected president, americas worst enemy (russia) came to congractulate him.
Thinking about this, i just woke up this morning asking myself (what if nigeria was to elect a white president)?
Will he do this & that good for the people? Am sure he will make nigeria a better hygienic place to live!
Well, i just want some other peoples view in regards to this!!
LOL,
It depends on the type of 'white'
Lebanese president----no way
But generally we can vote for a white president. Infact we need a white president because it seems like Nigeria was better during the colonial period...

Kai jama'a think on it. The circumstances da suka sa aka nada Obama are completely different. It will be a red herring the day Nigerians suka nada a white man as president. I cant imagine it, well not in my life time I dont think.
As GGNK said it depends on the white man as well. I can very well see 'yan lebanese dinnan suna mana shisshigi a politics. Dont be surprised in the near future if one of these lebanese comes out to want to get elected into House of reps or senate, especially wa 'yanda suka dade a kano. One of the reasons for their lack of concern at the moment is their attitude. Kansu kurum suke gina wa a Nigeria. Kuma abinda yasa basu nema ba is becos they know pretty well ba wanda zai zabe su, tunda they have never bothered to mingle with the talakawas, or do anything philanthropic. Otherwise yadda politics din nigeria take ta mai rabo kasamu, a ci kudin gwamnati a bulus a a kwana lafiya, ai kasan za su rika hangen how to get a dip into the free national cake....
LOL ;D ;D ;D Funny stuff, Dante.
Wish I could say much but...
Husnaa, don't say a thing. LOL ;D
Husnaa ai a lebanese contested for the house of representatives in the last election.
He contested for the birnin-kudu federal constituency in Jigawa state. He is from the Hajaig family and people actually liked him cos yana da kyauta sosai sosai. He said he was born in Jigawa state.
Luck ran out on him because of the politics of Jigawa. An ce obasanjo har ya ba shi go ahead, kawai dai pressure din PDP ne.
I'm putting myself forward. I'd like one of those big big motors.
Seriously though, if anybody has Nigerian citizenship they are entitled to seek election to any position. Apart from Lebanese there were a few Europeans who had taken Nigerian citizenship when I was in Kano. I remember lawyer Ken Gray in Kano, Jack Peace in Zaria and the Staleys in Jos. These were English people who had decided to remain in Nigeria.
In a perfect world your colour doesn't matter.
LOL @ Dave, you want to be first white president after colonialism? But you are too old for us send your son i will contest with him LOL
LOL @ you IBB and Dave. ;D
I am personally against the idea of white man as president of Nigeria or any African country, for he will just continue with his for-fathers' unfinished work of bastardizing and impoverishing us. Isn't it true? LOL ;D
IBB
Better I send my grand-daughter. She's very clever and she's half Nigerian.
Mushin
I don't think you need a whiteman's help to impoverish Nigeria if the reports I read about Nigeria are accurate.
The fact is -Black man, white man brown man green man the power in a nation is in its people and what they are prepared to put up with.
A white president? No problem.

I don't get that very well, Dave. What that report says?
I mean that in any democracy the people have the power to decide whether rules, regulations and governance is to their satisafaction and do something about it if it is not. In that case the colour of any country's leaders is less important than their policies.
A lot has gone wrong in Nigeria over the years.
A lot of this has happened with the enthusiatic connivance of some Nigerians with some non Nigerian elements who have together exploited Nigeria.
It is not always the stranger who is your biggest enemy.
OK.

Yeah! This is what we should start advocating Dante. There is no problem for Nigerians to elect a white to lead. I think this is one thing that we should pursue vigorously since all these charades cannot turn our country a new leaf. I support it 100%. Obama is really a lesson for people of understanding.

You don't need a white president. You need a strong, honest, progressive president with a team of strong, honest ministers and their colour is unimportant. You probably need lots of your politicians in jail before you reach that point.
Yeah we don't NEED per se, but what we' are saying is we aren't going to be dead against it, should it miraculously happen to come ;D

LoL.. This is interesting! How i wish someone will translate in english exactly what bakan_gizo said.
For sure, he is right. these are the things that we "human beings" shouldnt lack in our daily lives. Our country wount progress any further without Good education, Electricity, good hygienic environment.. . Look at countries like india how far ahead of us they are in terms of production, technology & medications for their millions of citizens and other countries.
I believe with bakan-gizo that our independance was too early, we were not ready for that in the 60's. I believe we would have been far better than india and for sure we could have retained our name "GIANTS OF AFRICA".
Ghana, south africa & egypt are now competing for that name you know.

@ Dave, we have tried so many black-coloured presidents
in Nigeria and none of them (Buhari inclusive) did anything
tangible, that is the reason for the clamour of a white
presido.
I am suggesting JUDGE BUSH come January 2009 after he
has handed over to Sasha's Dad.
Wonder never end. Today I'm filled with astonishement and laughter at what you guys are saying. Although I know darned well some are just joking as usual but other do really mean each words they wrote. Why?
I simply categorized your above assertion as from those people who consider black colour as defficiency and with lack of intelectuality while white as superior, effecient and more intelligent and the likes. That is utterly a misconception, huh? Colour, as aptly put by Dave, is trivia and should not be considered as significant.
You talked of Obama; is he white president elected by black as you want our father land to emulate? Think, not even think, but he is BLACK elected by majority white voters, so why? Because they think as well as believe (that) he can deliver it.
Don haka, I'm wholly against that branded idea. He would just, as I said much earlier in other reply, just carry-on from where his fathers have had stopped some decades ago of basterdizing, impoverishing and exploiting us.
Allah ya kiyaye, amin.
i rather say nothing to this!
@ muhsin : You all know that Nigerians have tried all the "been there, done that & who knew what nigerians want" and 99% of them failed us.
Dont you think its time we give a try to the "heard it, watched it on TV type" hopefully they will take things more serious.
@ dan-barno : George bush!! r u serious? did'nt you c what happen to the U.S economy? a man that can break a strong economy like america will probably finish Nigeria in no time.

Good observation
Double Standards! Double Standards!! Double Standards!!! Let me throw this out there:
If Americans had decided NOT to vote for Obama because he was black I'm sure the entire
black/African people would have cried RACISM!!! And there probably would have been crazy
protests all around the world, which is fair. But here we are standing against a white or
Lebanese president for Nigeria. Why not? Is Nigeria a federal constitutional republic or not?
Ever noticed how we claim to be but we bend the rules to suit ourselves? If the candidate
fits the requirements of the constitution then they have a right to run.
The requirements for running for President in Nigeria are as follows:
131. A person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if he/she:
(a) is a citizen of Nigeria by birth;
(b) has attained the age of forty years;
(c) is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party; and
(d) has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.
Oh and I didn't just make this up. You can find it in the Nigerian constitution,
Chapter VI – The Executive: Part I – Federal Executive: The president of the
Federation number 131 – here's the link.--> http://www.nigeria-law.org/ConstitutionOfTheFederalRepublicOfNigeria.htm (http://www.nigeria-law.org/ConstitutionOfTheFederalRepublicOfNigeria.htm)
It's not a matter of an inferiority complex. As long as the people fairly vote the person
into office then I don't care if the Person is black, white or even turquoise – as long as
he/she would get the damn job done! As long as I can sleep in my home without fears
of being attacked by armed robbers; I can open a tap and drink water without fears of
getting typhoid; I can fall sick knowing it may not end in death; I can have uninterrupted
electricity; I can access excellent education without having to spend a fortune; I can travel
with 100% certainty that I will be back alive; I can trust that the government officials are not
using the country's money for their hearts desires; I can go places without being investigated
for Advanced Fee Fraud; my green passport doesn't trigger the "dodgy criminal" alert. As long
as I can have the very BASIC rights that I am entitled to have as a citizen. Then by all means
nominate a MARTIAN or even a CYBORG!
Exactly!

Excellent Fateez! You have captured it very correctly.
Ina masu tunanin white president in only our savior? That is just a misnormer. Colour matters not here.
It took 200 yrs for Americans to elect a black president, well since we are following everything about their constitution tooth and nail, why dont we wait 200 yrs to elect a white president in Nigeria. If we elect a white president, he should be half black and half white just like Obama.
Wai ma jama'a havent we been under white rule before? Wasnt Lugard Nigeria's governor general during the colonial era? Arent we still under white rule? IMF and World Bank come forward and stake yr claims. We are following a western invented democracy that is not working for us yet we refuse to do anything about it and every time we say its a jaririya after 48 yrs. Jaririya my foot! On a time scale with the American day of independence as the baseline, Nigerian democracy is 25 yrs old!! so u tell me which 25yr old is a jariri. Even Muhsin at 24 cannot be called a jariri (though he might wish it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D)
The fact that it took over 200 years for America to elect a black president has nothing to do with their constitution and everthing to do with racism so I hope Husnaa's not suggesting that Nigeria should take any example from that. It took American nearly 200 years to elect the first Catholic to the presidency despite a very significant proportion of the American population being Catholic which was down to redneck bigotry and religious intolerance. America has never been the best example in these matters.
The problem about Nigeria and democracy is not democracy, it is Nigeria.
You cannot have a functioning democracy in which leaders are above the law and the police force is poorly manned, poorly paid, poorly trained, doesn't understand how to use its powers and is unable to enforce the law equally against everybody.
It doesn't matter what colour your leaders are.
They should be judged not on the colour of their skin but on the content of their character. Now where have I heard that before?
Correct, auntie Husnaa and Dave!
LOL @ your jokes, auntie. ;D ;D ;D
Where are white president...callers?
@ Husna: great analysis! but think of even 50 years to come under same type of rulers???, i dont know how to imagine how nigeria would look like. If you think 200 years, i will like to have your view in just 50years to come.
@ Fateez: Nice one! great analysis.
@ Dave: You sound like the type of leader were looking for. You have an eye for whats going on in Nigeria.
I have a huge interest in what is happening in Nigeria and perhaps I'll be back someday but as I get older this becomes more unlikely.
I consider Kano to be my second home but I left Kano twenty years ago to return to Scotland.

Dave you need to visit Kano soon.you should attend the get together...Seriously!
I would love to bring my grand-daughter to see where she was born - the Maimuna Clinic in Sabon Gari
The clinic doesnt exist anymore, but you can show her the building. I think Kano State bought it and made it an annex of the tropical diseases hospital - that hospital just by (which road as you enter Sabon Gari? :-\) anyway the back of the hospital looks out on Katsina Road.
PS. I think you are the only white person I may not object to, to becoming my president becos I think you have the genuine interests of Nigerians at heart and generally your views are very moderate and you see the two sides of a coin. That cant be said for a lot of white ppl. Its a pity you left Nigeria, you could have stood a chance in the political scene, cos you might have been an active member of some NGO or philanthropic organization which would have given u access to ppl and also more publicity. I know Kano ppl are very accomodating, since they accomodated Auwalu Falalu and who else? when I get his name, I'll post it. Its hilarious...shows the brazen ingenuity of Abubakar Rimi ;D ;D ;D

A white President for Naija? Well, it is possible, since an igboman was caught with a japanese passport! :o
Just picked up your generous comment , Husnaa, but don't be too hard on the whites. They're not all bad guys any more than the blacks are all bad guys or good guys or whatever.
When I arrived in Kano I met a team of dedicated white people working in education and working in education because they wanted to help. Most of them were working for lower wages than they would earn in UK as I did and most of them were totally dedicated to the service of Nigeria. (There were doctors and agriculturalists and engineers at the water works and so on doing the same.)
I can still remember the names though I'm sure most of them have passed on by now.
Ted Ward, Trevor Chivers, Reggie Taylor, Ken Pidcock, Barry Johnson and at WTC Miss Constance Sandham OBE, Anne Pickering, Heather MacDonald, Tina Coughlin, Ruby Brunt.

Af we in Kano have no problem ellecting anybody as a political office holder! Check our politicaly elected office bearers you soon find out! Start from counsellors to higher levels! It is not a matter of colour class or creed, it is all a matter of how easily during campaign they use the oppotunities open to them. What ever happens thereafter is left for posterity to judge! Who is speaking of whites anyway? Look around ask yourself what have the whites done in your favour? Please seek and watch "The Tripple Heritage" of Prof Ali Mazrui. Also read Kano Chronicle. Look around at the legacies of Sardauna and Audu Baqo. What we need are sincere honest people GODLY not necessarily religious.
Haba dai a white nigerian president
nah that wont make my cup of tea.
I know that somewhere in nigeria
theres a heart that wants to come out and lead her aright
its just unfortunate that our people just keep choosing the wrong
ones.
