TEACHERS' STRIKE

Though I am not a supporter of any form of strike
action, however, i am forced to change my mind each
time i met with one of my secondary school teacher
Malam Usman Osite, from the mere look at him, you
knew he has a problem of maltreatment from the government
he works for.  Imagine someone who has taught me
20 years ago still couldnt even sew a new cloth because
of the level of his salary - its not worthy to even
state how much an NCE teacher takes home.

No wonder Malam Dan Maraya Jos said "Teacher
Uban Kararu" they are the ladders to success, but the
government couldnt offer them a ladder for them to
succeed also.

The bone of contention is that the Federal Government is
increasing ONLY Federal Government College's teachers
salary without paying attention to the ordinary secondary
and primary school teachers.  This is ridiculous! how can
same graduates of Education from the same University,
same grade, same profession and same government but
receive different package of salary???????????????????????

Now, other 28 Union organisations have vowed to join the
NUT in the 3 days strike action and everyone will feel the
effects.

This Government is a listening government of the masses,
I am calling on His Excellency, the Servant-Leader to please
attend to the teachers and direct the appropriate channel
to review their salaries, may be my former primary school
teacher will start smiling, because I heard that he has stopped
smiling 8 years ago on the pretext that there is no reason
for him to smile.

How can an angry man teach and train our children for Allah's
sake?

The NUT should not relent in its effort.
It is so pathetic the way teachers (especially the primary and secondary school teachers) are treated.
The average teacher salary in state governments is N9000/month, without any form of allowance.
If they are lucky they are given a motorcycle or bicycle loan which further reduces the salary to about N8000/month.
I have never heard an instance where a primary or secondary school teacher is sponsored to further his/her education.
The whole primary and secondary education sector is infact in shambles.The ministries of education are the most corrupt. They have the highest budgets but yet you fail to see any impact.

Its high time the teachers be treated well.

I almost always lack enough words to express my grief over this unending teachers problems in Nigeria whenever I wanna say it, for its beyond me. Yeah beyond my comprehension. Don't know what specifically to say! Thats why I, with a childish thought of bringing change to the cadre, after completion of my secondary school (though by fate) even developed an interest in teaching line.

I pray to Almighty Allah to come for the rescue of both present and future teachers like me. And to bring bliss to the country generally for we are suffering at the hand of bad leaders who lack an ounce of mercy for their subjects.

The Federal Government  flatly stated at the  weekend that it has no intension of implementing the new Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) for which the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) is set to proceed on a nationwide strike from tomorrow, July I.

The government's stance prompted NUT to immediately commence the industrial strike action without waiting for the expiration of the seven day ultimatum it issued to the government. Government's the State Assembly Mr James Barka over the issue.
It was at that meeting that the speaker reportedly said that he could not make any commitment until he meets with the other legislators. The case was then handed over to the vice president to continue to mediate.
Several lawmakers told Daily Trust in Yola that the speaker notified them of the scheduled meeting with vice president today, and that they would hold their own meeting first before meeting the vice president. The majority leader Alhaji Sanusi Faruk Jauro confirmed to Daily Trust that the meeting would be held today, but he said there was no guarantee that the impeachment notice would be withdrawn.
There are speculations that the lawmakers had given four conditions upon which they may consider withdrawing the notice. The conditions include conducting fresh PDP primaries for next month's local government elections in the state, sacking the governor's chief of staff Alhaji Bello Tukur, re-instatement of Mr Manassa John as Secretary to the State Government and dissolution of the PDP executive committee in Adamawa State.
But the majority leader denied this claim, saying that the legislators did not give any conditions to anyone. He said the impeachment notice they gave was based purely on alleged breaches of constitutional provisions by the governor and they would strictly follow the constitution in handling it.
The Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Alhaji Aminu Iyawa, had told Daily Trust that the matter would be resolved amicably between the governor and the legislators. He said the whole issue was "purely political" and that through negotiations, the two sides would resolve their differences.
Many lawmakers had at the weekend told Daily Trust that they were not going to withdraw the impeachment notice against the governor, insisting that the governor should reply to the letter and clear himself or the law should take its course.
The governor had denied all the charges and promised to respond to the notice "line-by-line", if served. He had said that he had not yet been served with the notice.
