The Iraqi elections appear to have gone successfully on despite the violence and thus the iraqis must be congratulated on the fete.  However one really wonders if a stable state will emerge.  The involvement of the americans in the process was a bit too much and it is more a process of selection than elections.  Ones hope and prayer is that things do not digenerate into a tribal/civil war.  The issue of autonomy for the kurds can not be taken lightly because i am sure that will be the next target of the kurds, then what happens to the turk kurds? will we see turkey now being draged in?  How about the sunni and shiite problem how can dominance of the majority over the minority be ensured now?  These elections were powered by americas desire to pull out and not by the interest of the iraqi people.  Solutions for these problems are so temproray and unclear now that with the current situation in the country it was not really a good idea to have the elections.  However it has happened we must all pray for the people of iraq and wish them well.

Assalamu alaikum,
Mallamt, this is a very objective analysis of the Iraqi situation, yes, prayer Iraq and ofcourse Nigeria also need. There is nothing more important than peace and justice. May Allah (SWT) give us PEACE and prosperity.

I congratulate the Iraqi people for making their voices heard. And I am very happy that suicide bombers did not cause pervasive mayhem as the alleged.

Now, we must understand that elections and democracy are not one and same. They are, at best, correlated. Just think of some horrible people who were duly elected. Hitler and OBJ......

It should also be noted that the curfew imposed on Iraqis and the menacing presence of security forces, both foreign and domestic, has unnerving consequences for the voters. Voters will most likely not antagonise the security forces by voting for someone they perceive as the purveyor of the status-quo.

More power to the Iraqis and all the wretched of the Earth...................
