After US gun ships and helicopters shelled several districts of Mogadishu, it is believed the Al Quaeda terrorist believed to have planned the US embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 98 is dead. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed has been on the run for nine years.
This criminal eventually found safe haven in a war torn nation like somalia. Al-Qaeda thrives on finding refuge in failed states, like Somalia, Sudan, and perhaps Nigeria.
Unfortunately for Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, Ethiopian soldiers came to the aid of the Somali government and dealt huge huge blows on Al-Quaeda, chasing them out of the Mogadishu and taking over their stronghold.

So finally after nearly three dacades, Somalia may be on its way to sanity of being rid of the destructive jihadists that constituted a nuisance in their country. Now, if the rest of the Muslim World can copy the exemplary steps of the Ethiopians who wanted no part of Islamic fascists in their backyard, then maybe the World will become a safer place.

I think moderate moslems should up rise now and take back their religion from the fanatics whose aim it is to soil Islam and use it in perpetrating their hate mongering and spread of violence. It they succeed due to the complacency of moderate Muslims lacking the will to oppose this evil, it will indeed be tragic because Islam is well regarded by many.

Lord, Ete U really are an America controlled zombie!!!  Look America is trying to fight the inevitable, the ultimate spread of Islam all over the western hemisphere. All she is doing is creating chaos and the eventual armaggeddon which will surely come. Killing muslims will not stem the tide of Islam over America or kill the will power of the muslims.
Somalia is not on its way to sanity. Far from it. It now will become the stooge of Ethiopia, and there is nothing exemplary about Ethiopia. Ethiopia is not a muslim country, and never has been, so there is nothing surprising if they oppose islam. The likely hidden agenda for Ethiopia is that it wants to be a regional power within the perimeter of the African Horn, so it will use any pretext to enter Somalia. Let's see if they withdraw the troops from Somalia.
You know nothing about Muslims and Islam Ete, so please go and learn something about them otherwise u hurt urself by showing such phenomenal ignorance in yr write ups There will never be any peace in this world unless America stops trying to fight Islam and gives a fair deal to the Palestinians. The onus rests with America not the so called non existent alqaeda or terror cells. The real world evil is the present Bush administration and any american govt that might decide to follow in its footsteps. Anyway who says the world is a safe place to live in? If the American bombs do not blow one up, a tsunami an earthquake a hurricane, or a drought are all more than happy to take the place of an American war machine.

Ete I'd rather the US stayed out of Somalia for its own good and for the good of the people there. We all remember what happened the last time they showed up in that area. Not that I had much love for that supposed council of Islamic courts and their Taliban-like tendencies. It also remains to be seen whether Ethiopia's involvement will actually bring some long-awaited tranquility to Somalia rather than the regional conflict that many feared would take place.

And also I don't think its correct to imply that 'jihadist elements' are solely responsible for ruining Somalia. The warring factions that have tried to take over the country since Barre's ouster in 1991 can't all be described as 'jihadist'.

Husnaa,
I think even you cannot disagree with the plain fact that Al Quaida and similar groups are obviously a threat to the peaceful co-existence of Muslims w/ other peoples. In their crazy and thoroughly misguided attempt to attack America, by destroying the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania Al quaida only succeeded in killing many Africans, including one of my fellow alumni :(. Every time these people show up, everyone including Muslims get the short-end. Truly America fights for its selfish interests abroad and thus forments trouble, but even that is not a war against Islam. At the very least, muslims are free to practise their religion in the U.S. And I doubt their menace of these extremists will end with the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian issue. The sooner all of us realise that, the better.

Somali raids miss terror suspects

"The UIC have also staged public executions and floggings of people they have found guilty of crimes such as murder and selling drugs.

Are they popular?

After years of lawlessness, many Somalis are happy to have some kind of law and order.
The prices of many basic foods have fallen because gunmen no longer extort money from lorries taking goods to markets.

Almost all Somalis are Muslim". www.bbc.co. 11/01/2207

Well said Alkanawi. I too have heard of it. They publically announced that they missed the target. And by Allah's grace so always they'll do.

And to you Ete. To me it doesn't matter even if they succeded in their mission. My/Ours is just to pray for Allah to have rahamaupon him. We are all mortal.

Are you sure that you're taking into full consideration the crimes that this man helped accomplish? The vast majority of ppl he killed in the embassy bombings were innocent Africans.

How do u know it was him L.? Because the Americans said so? or wrote so? They made the same allegation on the late Saddam Hussein (having WMD).

Thats true Husnaa. I'm very astonished over L's allegation. It must be 'cuz of American's . Or maybe he's their spy? ???
As to the cited example given by Husnaa. Let me add a bit; Where are the biological weapons and that of mass destruction they said Sadam had in his country? I think it's obvious that there's none. And that forced Colin Powel to step down. That he shamelessly did. Thus, US is a great liar! I don't totally believe that that man was the responsible for that bombing.

Husnaa and Muhsin,

I believe Al qaeda itself admitted responsibility for the embassy bombings, even though they denied it initially. This is further evidenced by the fact that in the same year (1998)and just before the bombings, Osama bin Laden and his cohorts came out with a 'fatwa' exhorting Muslims world to kill Americans, whether civillian or military, wherever they were.
