Ai that is a 'must' Nurudden.I have been thinking dama how great it will be if we have such places in Nigeria because the Travel industry happens to be one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It supports a lot of jobs around the world and a great revenue if handled correctly.
The number one reason why people might not want to come to Nigeria for tourism is lack of good security. Now if we have good attractions, people will come in anyway and if the Government realizes what good industry that is,the security might be tight.Think of the people that will actually benefit from the Travel industry. An example is the UK that supports around 1.8million jobs.i think we can really make it with more effort.I am really impressed!

Last time the Yankari Springs were discussed without alluding to the fact that the Springs, especially the Wikki flows out of the Rock at an estimated rate of 2,000,000 litres per hour. But today, the discourse will focus more on the Marshal Caves, which were believed to be man-made. These ancient Caves are situated near Borkono Bridge in Yankari game reserve. There are about 59 of them altogether. They are believed to be man- made because of some chip marks that were visibly seen on the walls of all of them. The Caves were named after Mr P.J Marshal, former wild life officer who first realized that they were man-made in February 1980.

Perhaps, the Marshal Caves discovery could have been the reason of attracting highest number of tourist in 1985. The Yankari received the highest number of tourist in flow that year where by Indians numbered up to 1, 407; French people 648; United States 704; Chinese 149.
Nigerians were the highest visitors of the year 1985 with a total of 26, 656 people. Among the foreign tourists, the Indians seemed to be the highest followed by British people with a total of 1, 289. But the highest foreign tourist inflow was recorded by British with a total of 2, 421 tourists in 2006.

Below is the tourist inflow to Yankari National Park now Yankari holiday resort and safari (1985-2006).

•Total number of Tourists visit to Yankari including Nigerians   437, 189
•Year of highest inflow               1985
•Year of lowest inflow               1998
•Total number of Nigerians               354, 674
•Total number of Foreigners               82, 515
•Percentage of Nigerians               81%
•Percentage of Foreiners               19%

Subsequently, the overall yearly statistics of tourists' inflows by countries may be brought for the record i.e.  since 1985-2006.
It may interest the reader to know that out of the 100 countries of the world at least one in every country has visited Yankari from 1985-2006.

What is left for Bauchi State government is a serious campaign to enlighten the public about the importance of tourism to nation building. For example, there are countries such as Niger republic that only had 30 people that visited Yankari from 1985-2006. And this could be due to the fact that the Nigeriens are not naturally animal and nature freak. Uganda is also another country where only 2 people visited Yankari since its discovery in 1985. Therefore, a lot must be done to bring the attention of people to the joy, felicity and sheer delight of  Yankari. It therefore becomes imperative for all Nigerians and the stakeholders in Yankari project to come out and tell the whole world what God has given and endowed this miraculous place called Yankari. There are many more things that cannot be written here until one takes a tour to see for him/herself. We shall therefore eventually focus attention on the "matters at issue" i.e. the ANIMALS, after which we shall then delve into the luxury aspects i.e. the new holiday resorts and safari centres.

Nice observation Bee. U are right. What we need now is committment  and effort on our part to make pple understand the importance of tourism in Nigeria. Last week, I supposed to have furnishd u with an update about Yankari but we received an impromp tu visit by His Excellency the Governor of Bauchi, Mal. Isa Yuguda. We toured him round the project site( holiday resort and safari) to see what we have done so far. He really commended the effort and promise to continue giving support. It will be highlighted here soon i.e Governor Yuguda's visit to Yankari.Lol!

Allah ya Jikan Santalin Nasarawa, he was the one
who took myself (not kline myself) and other members
of my family and his to Yankari in 1986, lokacin
naija da dan sauran karfinta.  The warm reception
accorded to us was great and encouraging.

I later understand that the game reserve has been
seriously neglected until now.  This thread has
caught my attention, i think i should take a visit
during the babbar sallar break, hope i will meet
Nura?

It all depends on our arrangement Dan Barno but u know it will be  a bit difficult for me to stay there on and/or during Sallah. However, if u are coming, we can arrange for that. What happens is: it will be good for u to come this weekend or next so that I can wait for u. We do go to weekend on Fridays and return to Yankari on Mondays i.e. every week. Are u coming?
