In this part of the country, why is it that muslims these days dont sell the religion any more?
-is it that they dont respect the teachings of the religion, so that others can come to it?
-or we dont have the words to attract others?
-or is it that we dont have friends among them?
-or what?

Is there any need for the Muslims to wake up?

what is really the problem?

Assalamu alaikum,
Thanks as-Sheikh.

I think every Muslim should do the little he can, based on their levels of islamic knowledge.
In the Affairs of People Fear Allah (SWT). In the Matters Relating to Allah (SWT) Do not be Afraid of Anybody. Ibn Katthab (RA).

Mallam Sheikh the simple truth is complacency and the fact that we take the religion for granted because we are born into it and its all around us. This is the major difference with young muslims in the south west. There is always a spirit of revivalism and there are several associations and discussion groups that meet regularly to discuss ways of moving the religion forward, planning daawah activities or simply arranging for lectures on various islamic topics.
I also noticed that northerners living and working in non moslem dominated areas of the country like the east and south south always seem to apperciate the religion ore and are acyively involved in one islamic activity or the other.

Have you notiiced that it is only during the fasting period that some of us ever get to listen to tafsir or any other waazi for that matter?

We must embrace the habit of associating for the sake of the religion and creating an avenue to reinvigorate our spirituality. While in Lagos many years ago I was part of a process that led to the creation of deen digest and an usrah circle group that met weekends at federal palace hotel  with a few moslem colleaguses from the south west, and today this has metamorphosed into Nasfat and a beautifull moslem magazine.

The two colleagues in question actually gave up very lucrative bank jobs to pursue this dream full time.

Here are some Hadiths:

1. From Sahl bn Sa'd (RA), ...the Holy Prophet (SAW) said "be petient, till you face them and invite them to Islam and inform them of what Allah has enjoined upon them. By Allah! if a single person embraces Islam at your hands, that will be better for you than the red camels".    (-Al Bukhari.)

2. From Anas bn Mlik (RA), from the Holy Prophet (SAW) "A single endavour in Allah's cause in the forenoon or in the afternoon is better than the world and whatever is is in it ".    (Al Bukhari.)

3. From Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (RA), that he heard from the Holy Prophet (SAW) "If a person embraces Islam sincerely, Allah shall expiate all his past sins, and after that starts the sanction. The Good deeds will be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times it overlooks, and an evil deed will be recorded as it is unless Allah forgives it".    (Al Bukhari.)
