QuoteOh Lionger your hatred of northern leaders is really warping your judgement! How on earth can you bring up Ojukwu and say he is one of the best ppl to rule Nig? If you just mentioned Gani, I might agree with you? But Ojukwu to rule Nigeria? When he was the instigator of the religious riots that led to the deaths of thousands in Kaduna state in the Feb 2000. Although of course i don't expect you will agree with me. But I'll tell you something in sha Allah, we will vote Buhari back to power and for your info, he was no tyrant.

gee if you like buhari so much, ummulhuda, then why not vote for ojukwu? his complicity in the the kaduna 2000 riots is news to me. And if that is all you have against him, then by all means he is more deserving of a chance to rule Nigeria than any other past dictator!

I don't hate northern leaders; hating is not my stlye. The Bible teaches me to love everyone, especially my enemies  ;D. I just dislike past military dictators for the damage they have done to the country. It's not my fault that the bulk of them come from the north. And why should I try to bring them back to power again, when they are merely wolves in sheep's clothing?

All

I think we should remember that this thread is about the betterment of the hausa-fulani in terms of educational/health-care development, not about the presidential candidates! I don't know how the discussion degenerated into this. So please let us discuss suggestions to the problems of education, health care, the decline of the emirate system and otehr issues highlighted by Shettima in his article

FDQ of course there were southern connivers. but if the fact most of the military dictators were from the north means nothing to you, then how come there were/are almost no Igbo officers in the army? We all need to hit the history books and study the lasting effects of the July 1966 coup on the Nigerian Armed Forces.

And once again, the point of this thread is to discuss solutions to the relative underdevelopment the Hausa-fulani suffers today. FDQ can you propose any solutions? Who do you think is responsible for the problems of the northern masses? Do you agree with Shettima that the emirates are in decline/lost their relevance?

honestly spoken.. to telleth the truth... the articles too long for my liking... maybe nexx time i go read 'am... i no even undastand whut the point is.. ya'll too dey type...

lol u sef. Fine, i'll break it down for you.

In his article, Shettima states that the responsibility for the relative underdevelopment, high illiteracy levels and poverty in Northern Nigeria lies squarely on the Northern politicians and partly on the emirates.

He argues that corruption and injustice has replaced Islam as the guiding principle in the emirate system, thus it has declined and lost its relevance.

He goes further to state that the North manipulates the decaying emirate system to confuse the people. According to him, 'Northern Nigerian politicians, always too full of promises but short of delivery (except to themselves, their kith and kin and cronies) thrive on the ignorance and desperation of the people by forming the impression that the creation of more village units, district areas and emirates can bring about 'development; '. This is nonsense in Shettima's view.

Finally, Shettima concludes by saying that Northern Nigeria is the thrid world of the third world and that its politicians should stop deceiving and confusing the people, stop creating new emirates, stop refurbishing the palaces of the emirs, stop distributing delicious roasted fish (lol) over which thousands scramble and even get shot, and instead invest in real development of the region.

Actually, that's another thing..he also argues that even islamic education has been allowed to decline in the North.

Blaqueen

ok thats it.. ur own don' pass wahala...
ur talkin as if we dont have educated people in the north, sorry sah, but we do... we got tons and tons of northerners educated!!!... we are aware of set backs.. but *singin'* we shall over come *stops singin'*...
its about bringing change... change will come!!!! and i know it wont be overnight.... but gradual change is all good, as long as we change something.

now, if only we could stop recycling leaders.... :-X

and another problem is greed... NIGERIANS in general are sooo obssessed about QUICK MONEY!! they dont know wealth is acquired thru patience!!!!

Am with you darling. I have heard alot about Nigeria even though I hardly know alot about my country but I always say to myself when will we finally see the best part of Nigeria?

About The Fulani/Hausa future I also agree with Ummita, we can just make assumptions but all our ranting wont say much about the future except maybe technology will improve a million time than it was.

lionger

lol FDQ tons and tons? I can't see anywhere in  any of my posts where i gave the impression that there were no educated ppl in the north. I always described its educational underdevelopment RELATIVE to the rest of nigeria. My comment on the alleged decline of islamic education was actually shettima's point, not mine. i simply wanted to know what you thought about it.

Optimism alone will not solve Nigeria's problems. Change will come? When? Gradually, as u say? But are the foundations for that being set today but today's politicians? No! You were right on the money when you mentioned the problem of recylcled leaders. I think they share some of the responsibility in this. My suggested solutions to the education problem as well as any other proposed solutions, will not work with these set of leaders in place.

millie and ummita maybe 'ranting' here will not solve any problems in ground zero; but if that's the point of this forum, then what are we doing here?

Blaqueen

...hehe.. u too dey holla wahala.. na so u go remain... but i will say..."rome wasnt built in a day"....

about the islamiyya....Nigeria is well known for it's Islamic Knowledge... so i wont even fret on that issue... it will juss drag on...

and nigeria.. we juss have recycled and connected leaders... hey, they suck.. but we cant keep drowning ourselves in misery and complains... i'll juss keep ma head up and do whut i do...
even if its juss a small community i contribute to.. or a family.. or a district... i did my own share!...
even when its one kid i sponsor.. i done did ma own share and did something for Nigeria...
maybe i see all these tiny petty petty charitable actions everyday... and God Bless those who strive to make it better no matter how small...
thats why i remain an optimist.. cuz i know i can contribute to my society and i've seen people who have and are STILL in the process...
i cant start tracing faults from those who lead us... i wont point fingers, i'll juss do whut i can to the extent i can maintain.
everything starts at home, then expand to where ever...
u cash ma drift?

lol FDQ u've already pointed the finger at the yeye recycled leadership, haven't you? ;D

i admire your optimism and patriotism; i've always thought that the concept of Nigerian patriotism only existed in the football field. God knows I love that mess and the ppl in it; and I long to come back. There's just no place like home; despite all the gra-gra that comes along with it.

however, my responsibility lies first to myself, my relatives and later my immediate family. I know very well that the the things that made me long to and eventually leave nigeria are still alive and well; even more so than before. In that case why should I return? To make things better? Yea I'd love to do that but the govt. has to set the groundwork for a favorable atmosphere. OBJ has failed to do that, maybe he had good intentions but was let down by those around him. i love nigeria but as you become an adult and start sweating for your money, you'll realise that patriotism and optimism won't put good food in your children's mouth,  or quality housing or quality schooling (i had very bad experiences with the latter two) which they definitely deserve. Now if i can get that for them in a foreign land, why should i stay in naija?
