If you were a powerful and influential member of either arm of the national assemly, what piece of legislation would you make or support in the quest of ensuring a better Nigeria?

As honorable ZIZO,i would formulate, promote, support and help pass a bill that would ensure all elected officials of the federal republic truly sacrifice their selves for the greater intrest of the nation.
The bill among other things would prohibit all elected officials from seeking medical treatment abroad, owning power generating sets in their official residences, owing automobiles, furniture etc that have not been assembled or manufactured in nigeria. The bill will go on to mandate them to enroll at least half the total number of their children in public schools. They should only be given enough security detail that any ordinary citizen can expect to get from his/her local law enforcement agents.
I know this might seem bizzare, but i think a law like this can help key policy makers and executors be in touch with the realities on ground at all times so that they know the plight of the average man and subsequently do only what is best for the nation.
I'm sure you wud agree with me there is an unrealistic gap in standards of living between us and our electeded servants which makes them insensitive to our needs.

mhmmm, all sounds like wat some do just 4 d sake of  d livin it up!......Though I dnt c a problem wit seekin medical trtmnt or consultation abroad..........nt degradin our doctors & trully we do hav top docs bt d last doc who supposedly claimed havin more dan 20yrs or so .....xperience in his supposedly specialised field almost killed my old Goggo last yr!  Talk bout incompetence!

Wat I wud suggest if I had d capacity of being a legislator in Nigeria is 2 do away wit d contractionary fiscal policy & implement an expansionary fiscal policy, which will lower taxes & create higher govt spending 2 boost d economy. But sadly enough all my granpahs sittin on their level of hierachies callin theirselves our govt officials r seriously stingy & selfish.

Anoda suggestion may b.......Govt official shud b put on somethin like an account review, where their savings/current account cud b reviewed like once a yr 2 discuss their annual earnings, other means of finance,  discuss d source of any xtra chi-chengs & account 4 any kobo entrusted in2 their hands dat has gone missin & b given an exact sum allowed 2 b deposited in oda national banks & 4 international accounts, b given a specified sum allowed 2 save.......OR *coughs*....... does that breach d line of privacy? Ok, how bout if its done in total confidentiality? U kno this cud tackle 9ja's money goin overseas & stashed away in anodas acc who does nt hav ownership title 2 it!

Despite ur slammin, am still jammin!!!

Thnx for venturing an opinion on zis thread.
The wisdom(?)  behind my proposed wacky piece of legilation is not the incompetence of our doctor and professionals(another topic 4 another place)but the need for elected officials to have a REAL feel of the average nigerians plight of strugle for suvival.

A mouthful.Pls sofry-sofry,break it down some for us financial simplings.

Some will argue that there has been increased govt spending these past 6 years....but it is however unclear how a new presidential jet, legions of official cars and aides, unnecessary globe-trooting by govt officials, hosting all-African games and other expensive events, news stadiums etc will help boast d economy :)

Great idea, seeing that previous legislations on code of conduct bearue,EFCC,corrupt practices commision are failing in their task we should keep in the Nigerian practice of multiple
effort and increased govt spending and pass another bill that would carry out same functions that 3 or 4 other existing legislations are doing. :D  :D

I would support a bill on the immunity for state governors to be amended or qualified. That blanket immunity is a licence for them to continue to perpetrate all sorts of frauds.
