I dont think Brother hood of the Wolves is that good. Mind, I only watched the ending on TV. I am not even sure if it the same film that Muda is talking about. Its a French movie isnt it? That is why the subtitles, and it takes place in the 18th century. If that is correct then i think it is the film. maybe I should get to see it in its entirety.
I have not seen many of the newer vampire movies, except Quentin Tarantino's 'From Dusk till Dawn', of which I saw the first movie. The second and third were not worth it really. I saw Blade I, but none of the others. I just dont dig the modern vampire movies, they are so like Muda said: kick ass instead of anything else. Nothing to tremble about.
When I was young, I had this excessive obssession with vampire films I would get all tense and scared an hour or so before the start a vampire film on TV. I would debate with myself whether to watch or go to bed but I couldnt help it; I'd just have to see the film. I was so impressionable, that after I'd gone to bed, my muscles always went into rigor mortis out of fright. I simply expected a bat to scratch my window and metamorphose into a vampire. The tension would not let up till the morning light when the vampires were safely back in their coffins. Then I'd begin to feel better and terribly sleepy, but then I'd have to get up to go to sch.
I remember reading a vampire novel back then as a scared thireen yr old, and as it took me a few days to get through the book, I always made sure that it was never in my bedroom at night... lol
I have seen Escape from Sorbibor. Very nice movie and very inspiring for the jews. If only the Jews did what the inmates of Sorbibor did, many of them wouldnt have ended up as lamp shades soap and upholstery. I have always maintained that part of the curse of God on the Jewish race that manifested itself in the 20th century was not in that Hitler killed six million of them, but that they allowed themselves to be led to their death like sheep to the slaughter house. For example, at one time only one hundred and fifty German soldiers led over one hundred thousand Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz... amazing. I always shake my head in wonder when I think about it.
Schindler's list is very much like Sorbibor. Only the inmates did not escape, they survived the concentration camp, with the help of what's his name? Schindler.. a very good movie nevertheless.
The Pianist with Adrian Brody is another Jewish holocaust film. The trouble for me was that I'd already seen Schindler's List, so I really couldnt bond with the Pianist. I personally found it to be a rehash of 'List'. Its a very good movie, but I felt there was a kind of deja vu to it, in the Warsaw ghetto scenes. This is because if a director was trying to be authentic about historical events, then embellishments are out of the question. Thus the ghetto scenes were almost the same in both List and Pianist (for me at any rate) even though each enacted a different human drama. I also thought the ghetto scenes in 'List' were more powerful and evocative. The whole irony was that Roman Polanski is just as masterful a director as Spielberg. I think I need to see the Pianist again. Maybe I will be less prejudiced about it. It won an oscar for best film, and best actor (and probably best director) but I couldnt help thinking that a little Zionism was at play there. Maybe that is why I under rated it.
PS Roman Polanski wrote directed and starred in a vampire comedy movie called the Fearless Vampire Killers.. very nice very funny very watchable.. bit scary nevertheless :?
