#1.3bn PFIPC Scandal Deepens as Accountat-General Allerges DG Intercepted State House Letter to Cover Up Forgery

Fresh revelations have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), with the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, alleging that the council's self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, intercepted an official letter from the Office of the Accountant-General that could have exposed alleged forged documents used to secure government recognition for the agency.




Testifying before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the PFIPC and the ₦1.3 billion appropriated to it in the 2026 budget, Ogunjimi explained that his office received what appeared to be a genuine State House request in November 2024 to create an administrative code for the council. After approving the request, the response was sent back to the State House, but he alleged the letter was intercepted before it reached its destination, preventing the Presidency from discovering that the original request was forged.




The Accountant-General further told lawmakers that investigations later revealed the documents used to establish and obtain official recognition for the council—including the purported Act establishing it and appointment documents—were allegedly forged. He, however, clarified that although the council sought billions of naira in funding, no government funds were released through his office

The House committee is continuing its probe into the legality of the PFIPC, the authenticity of the documents presented in its name, and the circumstances surrounding the #1.3 billion allocation. Adeyemi was previously arrested by police over allegations linked to the scandal, while lawmakers are expected to continue questioning key officials as the investigation progresses.

The Federal Government has successfully evacuated an additional 269 Nigerians from South Africa, increasing the total number of citizens brought home in the past week to 335. The move is part of ongoing efforts to assist Nigerians who have opted for voluntary return ahead of South Africa's June 30 deadline for undocumented foreign nationals.

The latest group arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning aboard an Air Peace evacuation flight from Johannesburg. The operation highlights Air Peace's continued support in partnering with the Federal Government to facilitate the safe and orderly return of Nigerian citizens.

This follows the earlier arrival of 66 Nigerians on June 24 via a South African Airways flight arranged through the support of a Nigerian philanthropist.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa accompanied the returnees throughout the journey to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated evacuation process.

Upon arrival in Lagos, the evacuees were welcomed by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Haruna Ali-Gombe, Director of the African Affairs Department.

Speaking during the reception, Ali-Gombe reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of Nigerians both at home and abroad. He assured the returnees that the government remains dedicated to supporting citizens who voluntarily choose to return to Nigeria.

The evacuation exercise forms part of the government's response to South Africa's immigration compliance measures, with more evacuation flights expected as additional eligible Nigerians complete the required screening process.

The Ministry also stated that it continues to engage South African authorities through diplomatic channels to protect the interests and rights of Nigerians who remain in the country.

A close associate of Nollywood actress Ijeoma Richards has recounted the terrifying incident that led to the explosion of the actress' vehicle somewhere in Lagos, describing it as a miraculous escape from death.

According to the source, the actress, who is also the President of the Nollywood Creative Minds Forum (NCMF), had spent most of the afternoon moving around in the vehicle before parking for an official meeting.



The close friend explained that the tragic incident could easily have claimed lives if the explosion had occurred while she was still inside the car.

The associate further narrated that while the meeting was ongoing, people around heard a loud explosion and noticed the arrival of a fire truck, without initially realising that the affected vehicle belonged to the actress.

"When the meeting ended and everyone came outside, they discovered that the fire service officials were there because of her car. They heard the explosion earlier, but nobody knew immediately that it was her vehicle that exploded," the source added.
