SHELL SPECIAL INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAMME
THE NON-GRADUATE (TECHNICIANS) PROGRAMME (SITP/2)
EXTENSION OF APPLICATION CLOSING DATE

This serves to extend the closing date earlier indicated for the SITP/2 applications.
As part of its contribution to local technical manpower development, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited invites applications from suitably qualified Nigerians wishing to enrol as trainees in the Shell Special Intensive Training Programme (SITP). The programme is designed to train and develop indigenous Nigerian manpower to specialist technical competence levels required for the oil and gas industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must possess the following qualifications, which must have been obtained not earlier than 2004:

Minimum of Lower Credit (or its equivalent) in any of the under-listed certificates:

i)   Ordinary National Diploma (OND) issued by a Nigerian Polytechnic; or
ii)   National Technical Certificate (NTC) or Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANTC) issued by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB); or
iii)   Technicians' Certificate or Ordinary Technicians' Diploma (or its equivalent) issued by City & Guilds of London Institute;

1.These certificates should have been obtained in any of the following (or related) fields of study:

i)   Mechanical Engineering
ii)   Electrical and Electronics Engineering/Electrical Installation and Maintenance Practice/ Radio, TV & Electronics
iii)   Applied Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Mechatronics)
iv)   Applied Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering
v)   Industrial Measurement and Control/Instruments Mechanics Work

2.   In addition, O' Level credits (or equivalent) in physics and mathematics and a pass in English Language are mandatory

THE PROGRAMME (RESPONSIBILITY AND CHALLENGE)
The programme will last for one year and it will be academically challenging and intensive with
many practical assignments and evening work. Continuous assessment and appraisals of
trainees will take place during the period of training.

The programme is divided into three disciplines as follows:

1.   Electrical/Operations (Ref. ELECT.1)
2.   Mechanical/Operations (Ref. MECH.2)
3.   Instrumentation/Operations (Ref. INSTR.3)
The SITP/2 programme is City and Guild accredited, and on successful completion graduands shall be awarded the City and Guild of London Institute Certificate, in addition to the SITP Certificate of attendance.

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will be eligible to apply for employment in Shell, while those who are unable to cope with its demands may be asked to withdraw.

ENROLMENT CONDITIONS

All enrolled trainees will be given an allowance to cover incidental expenses and accommodation will be provided throughout the duration of the programme.

Successful candidates will commence training in 2006. SPDC will recruit from the pool of trainees who successfully complete the programme. During the training, trainees will not be employees of SPDC and will not be bonded to work for SPDC upon completion of the programme.
