Assalamu alaikum,

I was surprised when I came aboard (KanoOnline Forum) today and see nobody open any thread on the ongoing Niger coup saga. I kind of believe (that) there are many things to say and discuss considering Niger is our immediate neighbour country; in fact some of us even have families there. Hmm . . . this is just off-topic.

On the issue: the news hit me. I as well as everyone know that the deposed president, Tanja Mamadou's actions and inactions called for that, or worst. Yet I feel for him. Secondly, I think I felt so nervous because of some intuitive thoughts and premonition that that sort of thing can happen in Nigeria. More-over the country is so prone to that.

What do you thin will be the case if military men topple Nigerian president?

Do you hope for or against that? Why?

Any way, may Allah come to our rescue, amin.

I dont open threads on news. I know you are refering to Muhsin.

Why would military topple the Nigerian president? Niger's case is different the guy has turn dictator and suspend democracy when he's due to leave after two 5 years mandate. Do the math 10years

Given himself three more years to stay on power before conducting another election which he will also participate. Suggesting "ta-zarce" thru three mandates. Is that fair? He has to go and hes gone.

The days when we had military coups in Nigeria are gone.
There's no one in the Nigerian military now, that has participated in any coup ballantana ace yana da tactics din.
An ce dai idan gemun dan uwan ka ya kama da wuta to ka shafa ma naka ruwa.
I still don't believe the Nigerian military can overthrow a government.
But yanzu ai an yi palace coup a aso rock.

Tandja giyar mulki ce ta debe shi.
Majority of the Nigeriens love him because he brought economic stability to the nation.
I hope they will not kill him.

But this has been a concern to many, including the ECOWAS AND AU. Probably with installation of Jonathan as Acting President this won't happen, at least so we hope.

Tanja's case's being an issue of controversies; although it's obvious what you described was what he exactly looked for. What I mean here is that he wanted and many (as referendum suggests) also want. Or was it just manoeuvre? Or what?

Hmm. . .don't count on that, GGNK. Those military men are really "wonderful". Remember all the coups in the past; many at times they happened between friends, for instances Ironsi/Gowon, Gowon/Murtala, Buhari/IBB. Buhari's overthrowing of Shagari too came to people with surprise, especially Shagari himself. Read his autobiography, Beckon to Serve.

Tabbas giyar mulki ce; haka ma U.S ta ce.
His people like him but why governments in Africa, U.S and others hate him so much? Isn't this ironical?
I too hope they won't kill him.

Yes, I am indeed the author of that book. I would be very interested to get your thoughts/feedback on the book.  I want to take as much reader feedback as possible on board for my next book which is well under way.

Army warns officers against coup d'etat – The Nation

From the Army came a warning at the weekend to its officers and soldiers to avoid acts capable of truncating democracy.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Lawrence Ngubane, gave the warning in Sobi, Kwara State during the Nigerian Army School of Education's (NASE's) end of the year West African Aocial Activities (WASA).

The GOC, represented by the Commandant, 22 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adamu Marwa, said: "I call on all officers and soldiers to avoid acts capable of denting the image of the army, particularly at this critical moment in our evolutionary history as a nation.
