ABOUT SHAYKH MUHAMMAD AL-YAQOUBI
He is the Knower of Allah ta`ala, the realized Jurist, Shaykh Muhammad ibn ash-Shareef as-Shaykh Ibrahim ibn Isma`il al-Ya`qoubi al-Hasani al-Idrisi. He is our shaykh and baraka, a learned jurist who is accomplished in many sciences. He is an upright servant, abstinent and is among the most excellent upright servants of Allah and the right-acting scholars. He is a man stamped with goodness, perfectly loyal and pure in nature. He is a learned jurist, a storehouse of knowledge and a teacher. He is an accomplished and intelligent scholar who has mastered many sciences. He is a traditionist, possesses a generous share in the sciences of the foundation of the law, rhetoric and eloquence. He possesses a gentle heart and exalted rank that has earned him the respect of the notable Muslim scholars and students throughout the world. He, may Allah be merciful to him, is extremely incisive, unflinching and exacting in his judgments. He is staunch in his support for the truth and does not fear the criticism of a criticizer. He has a very dynamic heart that makes him courageous in staggering affairs which most daring people would fail to venture. He is an inheritor of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in his pure shareefi lineage, his vast knowledge of the shari`a and in his inner spiritual states. Allah ta`ala has blessed him to join the two great seas of the sciences of the outer shari`a and the seas of the haqiqah. Click here to read more

ABOUT IMAM AT-TIRMITHI<up

He was Abu Isa, Muhammad ibn Isa ibn Yazid ibn Surat ibn Musa ibn ad-Duhhak, known as at-Tirmithi. He was born in the year 209 hijria. He was a learned jurist and traditionist who composed many exceptional works on the science of prophetic traditions such as the al-Jaami` and the al-`Ilal. He journeyed for knowledge to the lands of Khurasan, Iraq, and the Two Sacred Places, where he took narrations from Qutayba ibn Sa`id, Is?haq ibn Rahwayh, Muhammad ibn `Amr al-Balkhi, Mahmud ibn Gaylan, Isma`il ibn Musa al-Fazari, and thirty-six other renowned narrators of ahadith. More than twenty-five distinguished shuyukh narrated from him, among them was Shaykh Abu?l-`Abass Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Mahbub who narrated from him the al-Jaami`, and al-Haytum ibn Kulayb as-Shashi who narrated from the famous ash-Shama'il.

Imam al-Hakim said about him: ?I heard `Umar ibn `Alak say: When al-Bukhari died there was not left in Khurasan anyone like Abu Isa at-Tirmithi with regard to knowledge, memorization of prophetic traditions, personal austerity and piety.? He was known later in his years to have cried out of fear and yearning for Allah ta`ala until he became blind. Shaykh Abu Isa Muhammad at-Tirmithi died on the 13th of Rajab in the year 279 hijria in his birth place in Tirmithi.Click here to read more

THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING ASH-SHAMA'IL AL-MUHAMMADIYYAH OF IMAM AT-TIRMITHI <up>

One of the Knowers of Allah once said: ?Just as the People of Allah are the People of the Koran, then the People of the prophetic traditions are the People of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.? One of them said in verse:?The People of the hadith are the People of the Prophet, even though they did not keep company with his noble soul, yet it is his breaths that they keep company with.? Again, Shaykh Uthman Ibn Fuduye? (Allah be pleased with him) said in his Asaanid?l-Faqir: ?Verily the unbroken chain of authority (isnad) is a beloved Sunnah, which draws one near to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and it is the preferred status for the one who missed having relationship with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) through birth, or nearness by companionship. He should then seek the people of the exalted chains of authority (asaanid `aliyya) and take from them, even if only by license, because the parent in the religion is greater in rank than the parent of birth.?

Ash-Shama?il al- Muhammadiyyah of the great Imam Abu 'Isa at-Tirmithi (Allah be pleased with him) is a book that gathers these lofty realities and has been a means of cultivating love of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and adherence to his radiant way for centuries all over the Muslim world. Ash-Shama?il has a collection of three hundred and ninety-seven ahadith and is divided into fifty-five chapters on the physical description and sublime character of the Best of Creation (Allah bless him and grant him peace). COURSE DESCRIPTION<up>

This course consists of two parts, the adab and merits of seeking knowledge and the completion, in sha Allah, of the entire text of the blessed ash-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah.

Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi will be commenting upon and transmitting the blessed ash-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah of Imam at-Tirmithi in four three hour long sessions over a period of three days. Each session will cover a quarter of the Book. The study will include a recitation of the Arabic text and a commentary in English.

An opening session on the life of Imam Tirmithi, the virtues of His book ash-Shama'il, the branches of the science of Sirah, the goal of the study of ash-Shama'il, the commentaries made on the book and finally the teachers through whom Shaykh al-Yaqoubi narrates ash-Shama'il and their chains to the author. The last session of the khatm will be a commentary on the section on seeing the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) in dreams in various states and the interpretation of these dreams.

The Shaykh will also cover during this session the virtue of Hadith, the merit of the hadith scholars, importance of isnad and the tradition of oral narration. According to the standards set by the scholars of hadith, the students who can easily read the text (even in a vocalized copy) in good Arabic (without distorting the ahadith of the most eloquent of human beings) will be given a written ijaza, in sha Allah.
