in life, its always easy 4 pple 2 c d wrongs as purported 2 have been perpetrated by others. often whatever views, insinuations nd allegations we harbour, dont turn out 2 b true. however i am not sayin dat pple shouldnt b entitle 2 their opinions. but only dat as we seemingly appear 2 b opionated, we should do so, always, in gud faith nd objectively. possibly i may not b wrong 2 say as a muslim, which i believe u`re, u just dont try or strive 2 put a jinx on somebody 2 d extent of usin d words u used in ur submission. it would have been better if u had kept quiet 4 lack of words of symphathy. i am not sayin ur views are an utter falsehood, bt just tot i remind u of d richness nd knowledge in keepin quiet and bein a gud listener wen u hv little or nothin 2 offer 2 alleviate d misfortunes of other pple. atleast, a simple INNALILLAHI WAINNA`ILLAIHIN RAJU`UN, would have been, 2 my mind, ok!

True to sympathize with other ppl's misfortunes. However, its very hard to sympathize with a person who is intimately connected with Babangida, his father. IBB was responsible for the misery of millions of Nigerians, directly and indirectly. He robbed a whole generation of its potential future by skewering SAP down our windpipes, just so he could achieve his selfish objective of securing IMF loans that Nigerians vetoed against, and with which  he and his henchmen began to line their pockets before the advent of the first Saddam Hussein war 'Operation Desert Storm' at which the first Bush was at the helm of American affairs and which  precipitated the first crude oil windfall.
Some ppl have never recovered from his devious policies and quite a few  have had family heartaches thrown at them,  (the Vatsa family for example). It was during his regime that we had the infamous killings of ppl like Dele Giwa and that lady whose name I cant  remember, I think it was Grace or something like that. She was quite a well to do woman, who got into some intrigues connected with some drug allegations that were above her head and in the end cost her her life. There was that beautiful news reporter who was jailed and later died in prison. There were the countless arrests and inprisonment of other journalists. There was the Abiola fiasco, which originated with Babangida and later was catalytic in precipitating his demise. There was also the oil windfall which was totally squandered on ecomog and other things that can never be accounted for, except to say that never in the history of the Nigerian army was it so financially lucrative to be an army man. For example there was a general who died some ten yrs back or so, and his children were given over 100 million naira each as hors d'oeuvres before the main meal. How an army general could legitimately amass such vast sums is open to speculation of course.
It was also a time of nepotism, where you cant get employed unless ur father or brother or uncle was in cahoots with some high ranking officer or civil servant.
In all of the sufferings and heartaches of the Babangida years, his family has been unscathed, by either poverty, or hardships of any kind, so why should we sympathize with Mohammed, just because he is getting a little of the medicine that his father administered to an unwilling populace subjugated by threats and fear of unwarranted retribution should they cry out foul in newspapers? Besides its a legitimate thing to enquire where he got the money with which he was able to buy the shares in the telecommunications company. Afterall, I havent heard that he was into any kind of business that generates the sort of funds that should give him access to shares in such an organization.
We should sympathize with Mohammed Babangida, but I really cannot feel anything other than a feeling of 'you reap what you sow', and 'sins of the fathers visited upon the sons' and all that.

Good post HUSNAA. Personally I am in 'siddon-look' mode as far as this is concerned. Nothing has been decided yet. However I find hikma's post very odd and even more ironic, given his recent, heavily 'opinionated' post on the Israel/Lebanon thread. I guess both issues aren't the same. Anyways lets just see how this goes with the EFCC.

odd nd ironic, u said... i like dat. bt it simply waz a case of ``callin a spade a spade`` bt i believe its nt uncalled-for 2 ask questions wit a view 2 assertainin sources of d wealth of individuals in d same manner as i believe dat children shouldnt b crusified 4 d sins of their purveyors nd projenitors...

Moh'd Abacha n co shd have somethin to say bout this.
I have always thot it odd that the at the time Abacha kids where given such treatment,Mohd Babangida and indeed other 'first kids' where left untouched.

I say it is about damn time that people of questionable wealth flaunting it senselessly while others wallow in excrutiating poverty are called to account. Of what use is EFCC if it only concentrates on petty criminals like councillors.

Come to think of it, if the chap is innocent then he has nothing to fear. Great people like Gani Fawehinmi, Mandela, Gandhi and co were all at some point in their distinguished lives, detained or imprisoned. So Mr Babangida should pin this arrest to his chest claiming it to be his democratic dividend.

On the other hand, I personally think M Babangida is guilty as hell even if the evidence I have is circumstancial. Could he for instance explain how he acquired the over =N= 2.5b shareholding he has in Intercity bank? For a person who has no known employment, it is hard to justify his stupendous wealth.

The sooner we start holding this monsters to account the better the chances of Nigeria becoming the great nation it undoubtedly is.

that does sound dodge for m babangida cos obviously for a person with no know employment, akwai abin bincike.

The country is far too gone. There is no hope for Nigeria, at least not for another 150 years, and that's even being generous. Realistically, things may begin to change for the better in say 300 years time.

I wonder why do we used to forget something that is vital with EFCC itself.
Wallahi, EFCC is a deluder, purposely established for so reason-decieve paople ith what is going with government and financial cadre.
Pls, who can recall the day EFCC announced the charge(s) on OBJ himself. Where this story went?
I'm not here saying the apprehension of IBB's son in unfair,no, lets sy its but why whenever  person is pro-govenment, you will never hear EFCC say a word on whatever he does? Why? We 're not asleep. Know this EFCC!
