Who is your favourite author and what reason(s) can you give, which wet your appetite towards his/her works and prepare them above others?

I too have it but unfortunetly for the meantime, I can't write about him, though still I can give his name; Cyprian Ekwensi, due to my time thats about to finish. But when I get back.

i will have to say sidney sheldon, hands down, i just love his stories, they appeal to me, my favourite of all times is doomsday conspiracy, loved it. he keeps u guessing, u dont hav to skip pages bcos d story is dragging, what i like about his novels is that, its like a mixture of, ludlum, forsyth n grisham, there is suspense, espionage n drama all in one. however my second best book is by a diff author( jeffrey archer's a quiver full of arrows), then i come right back to sheldon's the sky is falling. whereever i go i keep coming back to him, i think that makes him my fav.

i can understand y u like an african writer muhsin, u r on ur way to becoming one urself. for me i like african writers, read a whole bunch of em in my first yr in d uni, a long long time ago, but i loved em, particularly the passport of malam iliya, cant remember d author though, the beautiful ones r not yet born, was it ama ata aido?

Ummutameem,

I also enjoy Sidney Sheldon's novels though it's only one I have ever read, yet I found it very interesting, suspenseful, intruguing and captivating. It's called Tell Me Your Dream about multiple personality disorder. But that doesn't make him a favourite authorr. Moreover, his works, academically lack good acknowlegment and hence are not what they called 'canon' but classical. Don't know why yet.

Hmm...thanks for the hope.

Why I have him (Cyprian Ekwensi) as my favourite author is; I firstly started reading  or rather enjoying literature with his novel An African Night's Entertainment. I started my reading with Kola Onadife's Sugar Girl but I found Cyprian's An African...more interesting. And from then I started exploring his other works like People of the City, Passport of Malam Iliya, Burning Grass, etc and all are very nice work. And again, one remarkable thing with this deceased writer is; almost all his writings have direct reflex with northen muslims and their culture. He died a christian but you can never find where he either directly or indirectly lunch attack upon muslims and islam notwithstanding the fact he used them in his wrtings.

And lots more about him.

Passport of Malam Iliya, as I said is written by my favourite author and The Beutiful Ones...is by a Ghanan's author Ayi Kwei Armah.

Sorry I take such a long time without responding. Its...you know always my enemy; TIME.

I'm saying that Sidney was a very good writer and I really enjoyed reading one of his work i.e Tell Me Your Dream but yet that doen't lead me to rate him as MY favourite author. And moreover, he's believed to be one of the greatest novelist of this century. No doubt about that. But as they say; what is good might not necessarily be good to other, so I can say thats what happened here between you and me.

Ummutameem, let me respond to this question on his behalf.

Don't think there great men were writers of novels but poems. They are extremely famous in that field...and know body, I think among student of English and literature,  don't know them or don't read there poems. You must treat both works.

Any way, am not so sure about that. They may still write novels but so far have never seen one.
