Robbers that operate inside vehicles no longer spare their victims as they are killed on the act and their bodies dumped along the road.

A police officer at Masaka police station said a businessman at Kugbo, Abuja, boarded a 'one chance' vehicle recently from Kugbo and never got to his destination as his body was found the next morning along Abuja- Keffi expressway.

A cattle seller also boarded a 'one chance' car from Area 1 and never got to his destination as he was also killed and his body dumped along the Abuja- Keffi expressway.

The police officer said the cattle seller boarded the vehicle along with two of his friends until they got to a nearby bus stop before one of the robbers at the back stopped the vehicle and said he wanted to drop.

"The robber who sat at the back seat targeted the cattle trader with money and while the other two traders got down to pave way for the robber to come down, before the car door was shut and the car zoomed off," he said.

The police officer said that the cattle trader's killed in a brutal way. "These evil people put a rope round their victim's neck and strangle the person to death," he said.

The policeman said they are worried about the number of corpses that are deposited along the Abuja – Keffi expressway.

A photo- journalist (names withheld) who narrowly escaped from the robbers at Kuje, told City News that he boarded a private commercial Gulf car (Kabu- Kabu) at Sauka, Kuje for Area 3, Garki.

"The car carried three passengers at the back while I sat in the front and along the way, the driver started acting funny and asked me to close my door properly," he said.

The photo- journalist said he held tight to his bag, and shouted at the driver, who deceived him to come out of the car, before driving off.

"I was abandoned at an isolated place along the airport road but thank God that after 30 minutes of waiting a commercial bus picked me," he added.

In another development, a gang of robbers raided the residence of a journalist at Masaka and made away with his laptop, money, handset and car.

The journalist, who did not want his identity disclosed, told our reporter that a five-man gang of robbers scaled through the high fence in his residence and entered his apartment by forcefully pulling the burglary proof apart at about 4am yesterday.

"Immediately they entered the apartment, they went to my wife's brother's room and tied his hands before coming to my bedroom to threaten my wife and myself," he said.

The journalist said he struggled with three of the robbers before giving-up to their demands when he felt his family's lives could be endangered.

"At the end of their operation, they left with three handsets, money, laptop and my car," the journalist lamented.

At the Masaka police station, the case was documented and the police investigating officer followed the journalist in search for the missing car.

Police in Abuja said motorists who specialise in intimidating passengers and stealing their valuables otherwise referred to as "One Chance" mostly use vehicles without rear number plates. The Public Relations Officer, Federal Capital Territory Police Command, DSP Jimoh Moshood told Daily Trust that the police investigation which led to the arrest of 8 "One Chance" robbers revealed that they use lift back cars and remove their rear number plates.
He said the essence of removing the number plates is to escape identification.  He said, "The use of lift back vehicles makes it easier for the thieves to attack passengers. One of the thieves hides in the boot while the driver and one other occupy the front seats. The passenger eventually occupy the rear seat which gives the one in hidden in the boot the chance to hold him by the neck to enable the one in the front move back to emasculate all forms of opposition by the victim. After successfully robbing their victim, they push him out of the vehicle. Others will occupy the rear seat and allow the passenger to sit in front while his luggages remain in the boot.
